- From left to right:
- Kamau - Quiet Warrior : Son to Iggi and Shardea. A weakling who is rather self-important and a know-it-all, but the only heir to the Mud Court Throne (When Shardea is dethroned, he will become illegitimate)
- Iggi - Only son : Father of Kamau and his sisters. Ruler of the High Mud Court, mate to Shardea (and later Mhina - Delightful).
- Aiyana - Flower blossom : Daughter to Iggi and Shardea. A playful cub, with high energy and spirits, she is the polar opposite of her brother and sister.
- Shardea - Honor Brings A Crown : Mother of Kamau, Aiyana, and their sister. She is the heroine of the book, and much like her young cub Aiyana.
- Uzuri - Beauty : Daughter to Iggi and Shardea. A studious and quiet cub, she would be a better match for the High Court than her brother, but alas her gender and the times prevent that.
