History: Sapphire was in love with life from the start. She loved both her parents and all her friends and her teachers and absolutely everybody she came across. Nothing was ever bad to her--there was occasionally room for improvement, but there was a silver lining for Sapphy no matter how big the cloud.
Of course, someone so charismatically good-hearted had to be exploited at some point. Sapphire wanted to make a career in art, and she was so desperate to do this that when someone claimed to have a job opening for her across the ocean she jumped at it without thinking twice. Her parents were nervous and her friends didn't like the idea, but Sapphire's greatest talent was also her ultimate downfall: she could persuade people to do anything. Including let her cross the ocean to stay with someone she never met.
Let's just say that nothing went well.
Sapphire was forced to do what amounted to slave labor, and she didn't have the pure guts to escape. Her tormentor broke her heart, broke her spirit, and, eventually, broke her back. When she couldn't even stand any longer, he had no use for her. She was disposed of.
But just as the good die young, they also amount to all the more after death. The stars claimed Sapphire as their own, seeing as she had always shined just as brightly as any of them. She loved it there, and loved even more her dearest friend, a quiet mare named Glimmer who could carry a tune better than anyone Sapphy knew. The twosome had great fun together, their bond made all the stronger by knowing that they could never part. It was perfect.
Sapphire always was a people-pleaser, so it makes sense that of all the talents in the sky it was hers that those below could see. Ever the artist, she designed the most beautiful constellations with her palette of stardust that anyone had ever seen. Everything she owned had been broken into a million pieces by a single stallion. And now she works, alongside Glim, to be his polar opposite. She is the one mare who can put people back together.
