#2 (The Apricot dun mare. c:)
Horse's Show Name:
LAA Dulcis Persicum
Horse's Barn Name:
Dolly
Horse's Age:
6 years
Horse's Breed:
Spanish Mustang
Personality:
As most mustangs are, she is a one-person horse. She likes to be a partner with the person on her back, not just a push-button pony. Unlike a lot of horses, she has a very large thinking side of her brain and she knows how to use it. She is very independent, but social with other horses. Dolly is usually the boss mare in a herd, whether wild or domestic. She is stubborn at times, but tries her hardest to prevent any dangerous situations with her and her rider. However intelligent and careful she is, she has a temper and it's a hot one. She doesn't tolerate harsh discipline, even on a good day. The last rider who jerked her reins ended up with a broken rib and fractured wrist. If natural horsemanship or other proper techniques are used, she is normally compliant and willing.
History:
Her parents were both from a large herd of mustangs, located near the Pryor Mountains. She was born and raised in this herd. At a year old, she had a choice. Join the herd, or find her own place in the world. Dolly decided to make her own way. She left the herd and wandered around with a band of bachelor stallions. One normal day, about a year later, she and a few ohers were captured by a couple of old-fashioned wranglers. They were taken to a small dude ranch. Not knowing what happened to the others, Dolly was sold to a training facility. A man by the name of Ryland bonded with her and worked with her using natural horsemanship techniques. She excelled in anything he asked her to do, be it work cattle, pony kids, or even jump fences. Unfortunately, the training facility went bankrupt and Ryalnd couldn't afford to keep a horse. Dolly was sent to auction. Even with her wonderful personality, willingness, and overall beauty, the final bid was that of a kill buyer. The mare's heart sank. However, a rescue group saw her in the kill pen and, thinking such a talented mare couldn't be slaughtered, bought her. She was the rescue's favorite, they used her for therapeutic riding while she waited for a forever home. As she waited, she watched the horses come and go. One day, a woman, a professional rider it seemed, came knocking at the rescue. Said she was looking for a rescued horse that she could compete with. Each person directed her to Dolly. The woman, Tracy Brandtlin, was, in fact, a grand prix rider. The two inspected each other, Tracy asking about temparment, skill, and health, and Dolly wondering the same. When Tracy first tried Dolly under saddle, it was love at first ride. Dolly behaved perfectly, soaring over jumps, preforming a stunning pirouette, even cutting a calf. Tracy did the most unexpected things and Dolly reacted just as she should have. It was obvious the two were perfect for each other. Tracy took Dolly home that very day. She and Tracy have competed in grand prix-level competitions on numerous occasions, and still do.
