As we celebrate our 7th birthday it seems like a good time to make some much-needed updates to our items categorization!
When we first started using items we had no categories at all, everything was just all bunched up together. By early 2011 we had released about 1500 different items, so we finally introduced some categorization for your item collection to make it easier to find things.
4 years on, we've now released over 6200 different items! Trying to fit the new items into the old categories isn't always easy, and it's gotten pretty hard to find some things. We want to make that easy again.
Sorren Fey, Nick and I have been hard at work these past few weeks designing an updated category system that we hope will be easier to use! There are a lot of new sensible, clear category labels which take into account all the different kinds of items released over the past 7 years. It should be easier now to figure out where an item will be found from the category labels, as they are more descriptive/specific. It may take a bit of getting used to as some of your items will be more spread out, but to make things easier...
You will have a couple of new options when looking through your items:
Dress by Body Area
This is a good way to browse for items when you're working on a dress-up and not quite sure what you should add to the head, legs, or whatever. Just select the category for the area you need to dress and you have a wide range of all the items that would fit that general area. It combines items from all the accessories, clothes, costumes, and the body parts categories so you don't have to browse all of them separately!
Species
As many of us know from item experimentation, you can often creatively find ways to fit items on species they weren't intended for. But sometimes you just want to see which items you have which were actually designed to fit or convert for the species you're dressing - and now you can find those much faster using the species tabs!
Sets
This area is still under construction, so you may not see any of your item sets appearing here yet. But we will add a lot more sets to this category over the next week or 2. This'll be probably the fastest way to dress up a pet in a costume without missing any of the matching parts in your collection! Note that if you have any part of a set it will show up in here, but it doesn't indicate that you have the complete set.
Please also note that Costumes and Clothes are completely separated now - with many sub categories for each.
You may spot some items which have ended up in the wrong place, please report errors in the comments here.
We hope the combination of these new item category labels will remove some of the guess work in finding items in your collection. Make sure to spend a bit of time checking out where your items belong now. It should be a lot easier to find things once we're all used to the changes!
