Rough Past:
Traveling the world ever since she was little, Rayna was passed through numerous families. No one had time for her, nor did anyone want put her down. Her name was changed from "Buttercup" to "Maggie". However, There was a man who saved her from this life.
Carver Rickens found her at the pound. He met her gaze and immediately fell in love. Carver decided to take a chance on her and took her home, giving an endless amount of love. He had an idea and she was all in. Rayna was taken to the rescue organization where he worked and became Carver's partner in rescue missions and everything else. She was put through vigorous training, but it was all worth it. Rayna realized that she loved rescuing others. It all came to an end on a mission she'd never forget.
A monstrous Tidal Wave.
Rayna choked on sea water, paddling quickly and trying to stay above water. Carver searched for her through debris. He spotted her and swam as fast as he could. Another wave came crashing in. Being thrown safely onto the rescue helicopter, Rayna looked back, Carver no where in sight. He was gone. For good.

Story:
I would never see him again. "After this mission, we'll have the best Christmas ever!" Carver Rickens, you are such a liar. What am I supposed to do without you? We're family. You promised you wouldn't leave me. You promised.
The beat of the helicopter's motors rung in my ears as I sat there. Two other rescuers were crying. They too had lost a good friend. No one made eye contact for the rest of the ride home.
"Poor thing." "Those two were inseparable." "Such a shame. Right before Christmas." I had to hear those words throughout the whole return process. There was also arguing on who would take me home. No one could keep me and I couldn't stay in this building without a caretaker. The pound was the only option, and my chances there weren't too good either. I was still shivering from the water and dirt entangled in my fur, thoughts of my fate, and the mess of emotions inside.
A young lady kneeled down in front of me and gently draped a towel over me. She looked familiar and it dawned on me. She was Carver's best friend [besides me of course] and had been volunteering at the organization since she was 14. Tears pricked her eyes and rolled down her cheeks as she scratched me gently behind the ears. "So you're the hero he's been talking about? You know you've saved him in many ways" she whispered quietly. I knew she was contemplating something by the look in her sad eyes. "No one deserves to be alone on Christmas, especially you. Do you wanna come home with me?" she asked in a broken voice. I trusted her fully. Licking her tears away, I smiled.
A new chapter of my life begins.
