Sometimes I hate making backgrounds. After you've spent so much time making the main subject of the drawing, sometimes you just wanna be done! I think what your background and blanket need to tie it to the dog, are darker shading under the dog and in the folds. The dog itself looks like it's in a darkish area, but the background is quite bright.
