It's a Science Fiction movie. Anything can and will happen. They can just make another movie, using some of the same characters, then use some younger people who look the same but use makeup.

But they don't have to change the characters, they could use the same characters, just use stunt doubles and makeup to make them look younger. Or if one of the characters is dead, use a similar looking character with makeup. It wouldn't make much of a difference, they're just acting.
