Aval

Postby Celozon » Mon Dec 31, 2012 8:05 am

Fanart of my own character, can't get any cheesier than that xD

This Aval, one of the characters in my comic on DA she started out as a random character that I needed for the comic, but I've grown rather attached to her. She might be really important, but unfortunately she doesn't show up much. I never thought I'd like a purple dragon. Much less one that acts like she does, but I really like Aval.

By the way those weird blueish things around her are supposed to be fog. I am not know for my ability in backgrounds. But I'm happy with how she came out anyway.

I really enjoy Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Fullmetal Alchemist: B and Over the Garden Wall

I'm taking a nice, long hiatus from CS and partially from DA. If you'd like to contact me, the best way to do so would be to send me a message on my Art Blog.

This picture is very well done.
The dragon anatomy just seems right - although dragons are mythical creatures and there is no specific appearance to the generic species, your approach at drawing dragons gives off a 'this is completely correct' feel. The lines are smooth, while also being sharp and clearly defined - this gives it a very sophisticated look. The shading and coloration is neat and immaculate. Plus, the fog gives it a somewhat surreal yet vivid feeling - your 'ability in backgrounds' is stunning, and everything just makes the dragon stand out.
This is a magnificent piece of art, and deserves to be a featured piece in intermediate.

/my two cents/

Wow. Its not often I get a really in depth comment on a drawing. xD I'm really glad you think so much of it! I've been drawing dragons for so long I'd have hoped to get some general body structure down. I've recently found a couple ways to make my dragons look ten times better than before and I'm really happy with how they turn out now. I hardly ever do translucent wings like this so I'm really surprised how well I managed to do the shadows behind the wings seeing as how on the layer they are really on top of the wings. Sometimes I do things the hard way xD

But the background really is lazy o.o' It would looked a lot worse though with a plain background, and the fog fits her. Fog is just the only background I'm good at.
