Weeeellll..

I had a friend call me up that works at a pet store, she said they had a little agouti mismark hooded male that was just weaned and was badly beat up by the adults the manager put in with him and his mother. She offered him to me for two dollars as apposed to the ten he would have been, just to call it a sale more or less so she wouldn't get in trouble as they do sell mice for two dollars.

He's four and a half weeks old, TINY as all hell but the sweetest little thing EVER.

I have named him Bentley.. I have an accidental litter coming in (Oli tagged Syria.. LONG story..) and I figured, why not. Syria actually likes Bentley (despite him only being the size of her head.. I know i know risky to have them together I don't unless I'm holding Syria while she's near him in case she were to try anything) so I'm excited. He is, obviously, a male. I'm getting Oliver use to his scent and letting him out NEAR him as well. I figured by time Syria's litter will be due & weaned he'll be big enough to be put in with Oliver given they get along by then.

I just rehomed my two ringnecks to a VERY good friend so the spare bird cage is being turned into a HUGE rat cage. It was originally a ferret cage anyway just everything was taken out, like, the stands and ladders and stuff and so on. It's friggin massive and I know my girls will love it once it's set up. I'm having to buy everything to put into it but it shouldn't cost TOO much.

Then with that I'll have not only one but two spare cages so I'll be all set for this litter. We're building my rabbits a customized rabbit hutch so that they have more room and the bars on their current cage are alright for an adult rat so that could be a temp. cage as well for, say, my older females when they start getting slowly so that I can give them some meds to give them a little boost and hopefully last longer.

I'm beyond excited about this little guy, he's actually in my bra sleeping right now LOL. he's just a doll.

I have backup homes for Syria's litter so I don't feel too horrible about the accident.. I'm hoping I'll get lucky and she doesn't have a lot. the females at the pet store usually only have 4-6 but my friends breeding show rats have had up to 20 and i'm like.. fft.. thassa lotta babies.

{How cute! I hope he works out for you. Good God, that is a lotta babies o.O}

{In the meantime I'm getting to know my boys, and I think I've got them down pretty good. Okay, maybe not. Today, at least, Remy's been my shy boy and he really doesn't want to get off my shoulder. And Bowser, he won't slow down. He's feeling quite adventurous. He's relaxed right now, both of them on my shoulders, but he's probably gonna try to get on the keyboard soon. They are just so much fun, and it really, really helps that they get along so well. They love each other to bits; I'm not sure if they're siblings, but they're so close they might as well be.}

You don't plan on keeping him with Syria, do you? Because he will become fertile in a week or so, and then he might make her pregnant again. That's why babies are separated from their mothers at 4½-5 weeks of age.

Nope, not keeping Oliver with Syria. For right now they're enjoying snuggling, and she has actually helped Oliver's fear of humans quite a bit seeing me handle her. I can now pick him up and give him belly kisses with no problems.

On another note. Today I let Oliver, Syria & Bentley play together on my lap. They paid no attention to him other than sniffing him a little lol. I figured if I keep this up every day until Bentley is big enough to be with Oliver they should hopefully be best of friends.

Also, quick pic.

This is Bentley.

Today I decided to go out and buy a new rat. This time I avoided PetCo and Petsmart and went to another place who's rat workers actually know what they're talking about, and actually encourage you to buy two instead of saying; "Oh no, they're fine alone!"

Well.. I came home with two. I thought; "Oh I'll have enough time for it!" But then I thought.. what about during the school year when I'm gone all day? So I picked out two little females, a russian blue, and a russian fawn. They are really lively, soft, and the first thing they did when I put them in their cage is start cleaning eachother. I'm super glad I got two, because I won't have to worry about my rat being alone.

Pictures!

Image - Delilah, the russian blue.

Image - Teyha, the russian fawn.

Image - The two together.

Obviously, Tehya is the smallest. I think Delilah is just a bit older than her.
