~Moonlit Clan~The morning was warm. Warmer than usual. The sun was beating down on the Moonlit Clan. A perfect day for a clan's very first patrol.
Palestar lept to the willow tree and called a meeting for all of the cats. New and old, young and elderly, boy and girl. Palestar climbed up as they all gathered.
"I have called you all here to announce that we will finally be going on our first ever patrol today," Palestar announced to the entire clan. "We will need the strongest, bravest, most courageous cats out there with us. So, I will nominate two others to come with me."
Tensions were high as Palestar thought for a moment. Tails flicked. Ears strained. Paws scraped against the grass on the ground.
"For my first cat, I I'll nominate myself," Palestar announced. "As all of your leader, I deserve to be part of this exciting new journey. I hope no cat takes it to heart that I wish to go."
Cats nodded with Palestar in understanding.
"For my second cat, I will nominate the deputy that I chose. I will be taking Mudstep with me," Palestar announced. The brown she-cat looked shocked. Almost as if she didn't think she would be picked. She quickly climbed up and stood next to Palestar.
"And for my third cat, I will nominate Speckleclaw," Palestar announced. This caused confusion in the other cats. Speckleclaw wasn't the easiest to get along with. He was rude to the other cats. He barely ever saw eye to eye with Palestar and Mudstep. But he was picked anyway?
"I'm not going," Speckleclaw hissed. "Pick someone else. Anyone else. Pick anyone that isn't me. I shouldn't be going."
Speckleclaw knew he wasn't worthy to go. "Take someone else. A better hunter...a better fighter. Anyone but me," Speckleclaw begged. That's something nobody expected to see: the arrogant cat Speckleclaw, begging.
"I picked you to go because you
are a good hunter. You
are a good fighter. You will be going, whether you like it or not. Now let's go. Meeting dismissed!" Palestar said, happily flicking her tail.
