turtledove blinks at you as you fumble through multiple attempts to describe the bird you found. brown with with... speckled wings? a speckled head?? white eyebrows??? ornithology is not your forte... but eventually, you manage to say something at least somewhat identifiable, and turtledove lights up like the sun you can't see

Turtledove needs help!

it's late... you think it is, anyway. the crickets seem to have grown tired of chirping all through the dark day, and now only the wind provides any background noise. at least that means there's no surprise when someone steps up next to you, clearing their throat nervously.

when you answer no, they seem to relax a little.
