Santa.
Firefly grimaced at just the thought of his name. That vile, scheming mastermind who planned to sneak past all their defenses as they slept, stealing their food and no doubt intending to harm some of them along the way. After all, what else could some stranger possibly be doing breaking into their camp?? She couldn't believe the others were all excited for his visit tonight; obviously, he was evil!
Luckily, Firefly had a plan to protect her oblivious family from their impending doom. She, with a cheerful smile and eyes glowing with joy, had volunteered to be the one to leave out snacks for the visitor that night. She'd spent the day tagging along behind a hunting patrol, who allowed her to choose the perfect fish to prepare. The kitten had carefully cooked the prey -- with Frog's supervision, of course -- with the intention of fooling Santa into believing it was completely, entirely safe to eat.
As the sun set, Firefly laid the cooked fish out on a bed of pine needles she had prepared earlier, making a point to stand there arranging it into the perfect position for awhile. Once she was sure no one was paying attention, the kitten reached underneath the pine needles to reveal several bright red, poisonous berries, which she quickly stuffed inside the fish's mouth. With a final poke at the display, she stepped back to admire her creation.
Tonight, the poisoner would become the.. poisonee? Yeahh, she'd need to work on that. Regardless, the kitten was confident that her victory over evil was secured as she curled up comfortably beside her family to sleep.
