Hi everyone, hope you're all well!
My suggestion today is.. controversial, it's is risky, and funnily enough it wasn't mine.
As you may have been noticing, chicken smoothie is.. dying. It's losing members, its losing interest, and it's staffing team just don't seem to care anymore. Of course there are the odd exceptions, but staff activity and action has all but crashed in recent months. The solution? Tess and Nick are clearly too busy for CS, the staff have lives outside of CS.. so I think it's time to sell or pass it on to someone new, someone with fresh ideas and the experience to make the right changes.
Hire more staff members to pick up any slack, if vast numbers are busy with work or school or need to take a few weeks, there should always be more ready to take their place. You can never have too many staff, and they're not being paid so there's no reason to not expand CS' ranks to make this site safe and to get reports checked and dealt with swiftly and effectively.
It'd also give staff the time to respond to said tickets when they have been done, or tell people why said posts were deleted, as many just.. don't answer or delete something and never tell you they've done it or why.
As well as this, there are *thousands* of site suggestions that have been made since CS began, so many are very easy to do and are taught to us during computer lessons in school, but are not added. The excuse for this is that Nick (the ONLY coder of CS) is too busy, that's understandable.. so why not hire another? Or a team? The favourite excuse to put these suggestions to the side is that it needs a certain level of support, thousands of people to post or vote in a poll for it to even be considered by the admin team. Some of these suggestions are easy, a new swap thread to keep pet swaps and date swaps separate, a nighttime mode for those with eye sensitivity or want to do some late night trading.. easy to do, but never done.
The founders and admins of this site haven't been updating or posting much here at all, there have been no major updates for years bar the oekaki but that clearly hasn't helped CS as this place is supposed to be adoption and pet trade centered, yet is failing to nurture all other sectors of the site. The most recent post from Tess was a response to Black Lives Matter protests, but this post was only made because of public outrage on CS, it was forced, didn't feel authentic, and wasn't going to be posted because it was "jumping on the bandwagon".
Fortunately for many of us with morals, it was a great way to find the racists and add them to our block lists.. but after a few weeks of watching the same people spew hate and toxic beliefs.. CS did nothing to those players bar deleting the "confrontational" posts.. but not banning or warning the ones making them.
Updates! As someone who plays on many sites and games, I love getting updates about the site or game I'm part of. Even a simple post every other day that gives an update on future events or releases, or just a quick "hello hope you're well we're working on something new" to keep us gripped, to found our hope in CS' future. It takes 5 minutes to write a small announcement, to let us know you're here and well or even not well, to show us that you are still looking out for us and this site.
A commitment was made when this site was created. Tess herself admitted she didn't expect CS to be as popular as it is, but after 10 years of being on the internet and still going, the admins have vanished. Like with many games or artist centered creations, you make a promise to yourself and your following that you'll keep working on it, making updates, fixing errors, and making the place entertaining for years to come. Is money an issue? I'm sure there are many of people willing to help pay towards time being sent on CS for an overhaul, there is thousands of dollars spent every two months when store pets are released and with added advertisement income and revenue.. there must be enough to pay for a few hours a week to making some bigger/not your standard changes to keep CS up to date with the times.
Further proof that CS is dying are the forums, they are very quiet. The Flight Rising Chat, the discussions threads, swap threads.. used to have several pages a day, now they're lucky to get a few posts per week. The admins may think this is because a vast majority of users have moved to other platforms to speak on like discord and skype etc, but those servers have also lost massive followings and are as much a ghost town as the forums.
Another is that the members have grown and moved on, that a decrease in activity is to be expected. But sites like Flight Rising and Neopets are as old as CS, also have members who grew older and moved on, but are still alive and well. But what does this tell us? CS isn't catering to fresh blood as the saying goes, it's not welcoming to newer and younger users because it's outdated and stagnant.. but this is an easy fix.
But why is this? Other than the lack of staff tenderness and care, it's down to slacking of the rules, the very foundations of a decent ""family friendly"" website. Since the rise of the BLM, it's become glaringly obvious how many users here are racist. And not just "don't know what they're saying/parroting their parents/preaching religious rights and quotes" racist, users who have been told that using "all lives matter/blue lives matter" is damaging and why, but still continue to use it and preach it. Even after Tess announced they'd be taking strict action on racists, they haven't. One user in particular who I obviously won't name went from featuring the confederate flag that presents slavery, to comments and quotations of ALM etc. despite countless reports being made against them and the promise that "users are not banned for simply having an opinion unless it is a particularly harmful one" (quote from Sorren Fey).
Condoning violence against the black people of the world is clearly not harmful enough to be a ban-able offence; sharing toyhouse and tumblr links with pornographic content, preaching harmful phrases that condone murder, blogging hateful and bullying despite overwhelming evidence to link the player behind it to a CS account.. not harmful enough to be a ban-able offence.
But do you know what is? Drawing furries or anthros who show pink bellies, accidentally sending someone an unfair trade they accepted and suddenly demand a trade back for, writing "censored" as a joke, calling out scammers and bullies, disagreeing with staff over small and opinionated matters.. and more questionable and head scratching examples of people being banned over something so meager.
So.. Tess.. Nick.. I get you guys are busy and have lives outside of CS, but if you haven't got the time or energy to admin for CS anymore.. please, give it to someone who can. If you no longer have the time to walk your dog, you don't lock it outside and leave it to fend for itself, you rehome or make a compromise. Compromise or rehome CS and gives us a future for it, don't leave it to die and make our's and your's investment and time mean nothing.

I understand everyone's confusion regarding the title. But PLEASE READ the rest of the page. Selling CS is still on the table. We may have gotten Nick's attention, but just barely. The fact of the matter is, the admins have their own lives, which is restricting their ability to help CS.
There's no shame in that, either. They're adults with jobs, families, and personal lives. But CS is part of my family, and I don't want to see it perish.
So if they have to sell CS for it to continue to flourish, so be it, in my opinion.
