Adoption Help?

I'm a new user on CS, and have been looking at Adoption threads to help expand my pet collection, and to give pets a good home. However, I'm confused on how exactly I claim the pet I'd like, as most threads simply ask for a bump and to adopt from a select group of pets, but don't go into further detail on how I actually obtain the pet.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Usually that just means send a trade with the pet/pets you want, depending on the rules of the thread :]
