xxxxxTango winked at a tall, sleek flame-point tom with bright teal eyes. Every piece of fur was strategically placed to frame his angled face at the most appealing stances. It was him; he was the handsome cat. Tango was standing across from what humans called glass and his reflection smirked back. A door opened and he ducked away. He preferred to be admired from afar with as little physical contact as possible. Touching messed up his fur and annoyed him. Anyway, he ran along a fence line peeking at each doorstep to see if there were any bowls of food sitting out. This neighborhood was riddled with old pushovers who left dinner scraps for any passing cat to gorge themselves on. “Don’t mind if I do,” He hummed to himself. He found a bowl of leftover meat scraps and dug in. It was delicious.

xxxxxHarley tossed a curiously shaped rock to his mate, Virian. The rock kicked up some dust, scaring away a sparrow Virian was stalking. He sat up with an annoyed flick of his tail. “I’m trying to catch us dinner, you know.” Virian’s brows furrowed.
xxxxx“I know but look at what I found! It’s a pointy rock!” Harley rushed over to show his find. The rock was a unique and almost unnatural shape. It was very flat, and one end was carved to a point. “Wheeze doesn’t have one like this yet.”
xxxxxVirian sighed and took a second to look at the rock. “It is pretty neat.” He admitted. “He’ll love it.”
xxxxx“I know, right?” Harley said. “Also, I caught a mouse back there, if that matters at all.”
xxxxxVirian shook his head chuckling. “I love you, you moron.”

xxxxxWish looked around her frantically. Water was quickly filling her burrow and her paws were already covered with mushy mud. She had to get out, out, OUT! She had thought she was a genius, finding an abandoned fox burrow and making it her own little den. It worked perfectly keeping the summer heat out, but it obviously wasn’t waterproof. Rain was quickly dripping down onto her fur and streams were starting to form in the ground. She ducked her head and pushed her way through to the entrance. The mud slowed her down and a great amount of effort had to be taken to pull each paw from its grasp. A flash of lightning lit up the small tunnel and she was halfway to the forest already. With a loud crash of thunder and a strong gust of wind and rain, the top of her tunnel collapsed and blocked her exit. Near panic, she strenuously backed to the main burrow part with her nest. There was now water up to her knees. She clawed the ceiling above her, hoping to dig to the surface but only brought down more mud and stones onto her. Now her rich chocolate coat with golden highlights was coated in muck. She had no way to escape and the water kept rising.

xxxxx“Tenebris!” Star spotted the spirit of the dark making a beeline for the tree line. He must have been dropping off another cat to find their flos vitae, but Star wanted to talk to him. “Tenebris?” She forced her voice to remain sing-song and teasing. Maybe he wouldn’t notice how desperate she was. Winter was approaching and they were worried about having their flowers survive the snow. “Tenebris!” But he had disappeared and only a cream spotted tabby remained in his place. The two mollies inspected the other. “What are you here for?” Star asked.
xxxxx“I killed my entire family.”

xxxxxIt had been raining for the entire afternoon and large puddles dotted the landscape. This is why Tango loved living in the city; the hard ground allowed water to gather for reflection pools. His eyes glinted as he sat underneath an awning waiting for the rain to let up. When the rain dropped to just a drizzle, he risked his fur neatness and started walking in the direction of his makeshift camp. After a few minutes, he spotted a pretty cream molly off in the distance with a long plume of a tail. Rolling his shoulders and clearing his throat, he leaned over a puddle to make sure his fur was free of leaves and sticks and almost lost his balance. He carefully leapt over the deeper part of the puddle and regained his balance in the street. Weird, when he looked back at his reflection in the water, the surface was rippling. The street rumbled and he turned just in time to see a pair of bright headlights coming at him. A bright white flash later and he was in the middle of a meadow with the faint scents of flowers surrounding him.
xxxxx“I’m…dead?” Tango asked. He looked down at his chest and paws. There wasn’t any blood on him which was a good sign, though his fur was slightly ruffled.
xxxxx“Only a little dead.” A soft voice drew his attention away from himself which was hard to do. There was a cat, or figure that closely resembled a cat, with an almost blinding white pelt. One of her eyes was blue and the other a sickly shade of yellow. “More like…almost dead.”
xxxxx“Almost?”
xxxxx“Well,” The cat, molly?, tilted her head. “You were supposed to die, but I moved you here. You can use this second chance to try to care about something other than yourself.” She looked over his shoulder and her eyes widened. “Oh! Shade is coming this way. She can explain the rules as this place.” And she was gone.

xxxxx“I never killed anyone with malicious intent.” Layla, the new cat, explained. “It was just a series of unlucky events. I accidently snapped by brother’s neck when we were kits roughhousing. Later on, I mixed some berries with my father’s prey that turned out to be poisonous. Then, I was playing in the street which caused my mother to rush out and push me to safety, but she got crushed. And recently, my two remaining sisters caught a really bad cough so during the night, I slit their throats so I wouldn’t get sick myself. My last brother woke up to me standing over them with blood pooling everywhere and attacked me, when I was just trying to save us from getting ill ourselves. It was very rude, but Tenebris was kind enough to bring me here. I really hope no one gets sick here.” She shuddered. “I hate getting sick.”

xxxxx“Do you hear something?” Virian froze and Harley stopped as well. “It sounds like…whimpering?” The toms shared a look of horror. “Wheeze!” They shouted together and sprinted towards where they last saw him, leaving the weird rock and the mouse behind. They arrived at a horrible sight. Wheeze had both front legs shut in a fox trap with his fur matted with blood.
xxxxx“I was chasing a butterfly,” Wheeze cried, “I pounced and got stuck. It really hurts!”
xxxxxHarley looked at his mate. “We’ll stay with you throughout the night.”
xxxxx“Get me out!” Wheeze protested and yowled in pain when he couldn’t pull his legs free. “Get me out, it hurts!”
xxxxx“I…I don’t know if we can, buddy.” Virian held back a sob. “We’ll groom you until you fall asleep, then we can try to open the trap.”
xxxxx“Please hurry,” Wheeze begged.
xxxxx“We’ll try once you go to sleep.” Harley comfortingly licked his head. “We’ll be right here, always.”

xxxxx“Wow, you’re tall.” Shade had to tilt her head upwards to meet the icy eyes of the new flame point. “Or maybe I’m just really short?”
xxxxx“Both.” The tom huffed. “Where am I?”
xxxxx“Currently a meadow.” Shade looked around. “In a bit, we’ll be back at camp.” Before he could complain about this very vague answer, she continued. “But first, we should take a lap around the territory, and if you feel any pull to a flower, follow it.”

xxxxxLayla shut her eyes and tried to get a feel for her new home. “Are you sure I’m supposed to be finding a flower?” She asked. “I must just be dreaming. Maybe I’m having a fever dream?”
xxxxx“This isn’t a dream.” Star snapped. “You’ll find a flower for yourself sooner or later.”
xxxxx“What if I don’t?” Layla opened her eyes.
xxxxxStar hadn’t considered this possibility. “Well,” She said slowly, “If you don’t find your flos vitae, I don’t know if you can live here or not.”

xxxxxWheeze’s strength was waning. He had fallen into an uneasy stupor and his parents were barely keeping it together. “Don’t cry too loud and wake him,” Virian nuzzled Harley. “I don’t want him to get scared.”
xxxxx“He’s going to die.” Harley moaned. “Why him? Why not one of us?”
xxxxx“Let me help,” A soft voice startled them. It came from a pure white molly. “Let me release him from his pain.”
xxxxx“Don’t you dare touch him.” Virian’s hair bristled and he bared his teeth. “I’ll kill you if you touch him.”
xxxxx“I can take him to another place,” The molly urged, “I can give him another chance.”
xxxxx“You’re not taking him anywhere without us.” Harley joined his mate in staring this strange cat down.
xxxxxThe cat thought about this for a moment before smiling. “I can work with that.”

xxxxxWish blinked hard; the sun beating down hard on her eyelids. She looked around and found herself in a breezy meadow. Weird, she thought, how did I get here? Is this a dream? Was the rain a nightmare? Am I…dead? “Not dead, moron.” A black cat, black as the night itself, scoffed. “Though you almost did drown in your own den.”
xxxxx“So that wasn’t a dream.” Wish thought really hard. The last thing she remembered was taking a deep breath and thinking about her siblings.
xxxxx“Nope, hopefully you’ll make better decisions this time ‘round.” The cat rolled his eyes. “And tell Star that Tenebris hopes she’s a good gardener.”

xxxxxTango quickly found his flos vitae, zinnia acerosa, or the Desert Zinnia. He took on the name of Zin and made sure that everyone else knew which flower was his. It had soft, curled, white petals with a fancy looking yellow stems in the center. The family of three found their flos vitaes off in a corner all together. Harley’s flos vitae was a bright pink Dutch Hyacinth, hyacinthus orientalis, and shortened his new name to just Dutch. Virian became Sini after his flos vitae, the Abyssinian Sword Lily, abyssinian gladiolus. Wheeze was proud that his flos vitae, Birds of Paradise, strelitzia reginae, was very bright and colorful and picked the name, Bird. The ever-stunning Wish discovered her flos vitae by stepping on it hunting and causing a massive headache for the rest of the day. It was the dark Onyx Odyssey Lenten Rose, helleborus x hybridus, and chose Nyx as her nickname as her flos vitae was a mouthful.
xxxxxBut poor, germaphobe Layla spent days upon days of searching for any flower that was connected to her with no results. It looked like it’d be another moon before she, if ever, was united with her flos vitae.

xxxxxThe cats of flos vitae waited nervously for the colder weather and snow that loomed over them. Winter was coming and they only hoped their flowers could withstand the weather. Tenebris’ warning rang in Star’s mind. He hopes I’m a good gardener, she repeated over and over in her head, I burned down a forest! I definitely am NOT a good gardener.

Featherstar left her kits in the nursery to play while she saw the patrol off. They were going to track down the dog pack they had found last moon. Wolftail and tawnyheart were saying goodbye. The two touched noses and then their children came up, bouncing around excitedly. Featherstar listened in on their conversation.
"Don't worry, i'll be fine!" Wolftail was explaining. Tawnyheart gave him a sad smile, both of them knowing very well just what dogs could do.
"Daddy! Daddy! When are we leaving?" His kits asked.
"You aren't. This is a patrol for warriors, and the clan needs you to defend camp incase the dogs attack here. They also need you to look after them." He said with a meaningful look at sprucepaw, who had chosen the path of a medicine cat. Blizzardfoot sat away in a corner, his scarred and torn face a reminder of the damage dogs could do. His empty eye socket was pointing right at featherstar, and the silver leader couldn't help but wonder, was she sending these warriors to their deaths?

Wolftail led the others silently through the misty woodland, myrtleshade in the lead, having been leading the patrol that first discovered the dog scent. Everyone was on edge, jumping at every cracking twig, claws unsheathed uneasily. Was this how prey felt? They continued on, searching for the scent.

Talonstep walked into the medicine den, and flopped down. Her belly ached, and she was wondering if ridgepelt had anything for it. The medicine cat's apprentice, sprucepaw, was busy, so it was just the two grey and white she-cats.
"What seems to be the problem?" Ridgepelt said, shuffling over to talonstep, sniffing her curiously, eyeing her hunched posture.
"I've got a bad bellyache." Talonstep explained.
"Let me see." Talonstep sat still as the medicine cat examined her.
"Well?" She asked.
"Which do you want to hear first, the good news, or the bed news?"
"Bad news."
"I can't cure it."
"And the good news?"
"You're expecting kits." Ridgepelt said flatly. Talonstep's world fell to pieces.
"No, no! This can't be happening! Stupid tom!"
"Who's the father? And what's so bad about having kits?" She glanced around before leaning closer and whispering into ridgepelt's ear.
"The father is most likely a tom from ravenclan, named haypelt." Ridgepelt shook her head.
"That's tough. But let me tell you a secret. No one cares. Featherstar's kits are halfclan. Goldenfur's kits are halfclan. Ginger is in a relationship with a she-cat from another clan. It's the beginning of a clan. We need a diverse bloodline, to avoid things getting weird a few generations down the line. Don't worry about it." But talonstep did worry about it. She was scared of being a mother, scared of having kits, and scared of being a single parent. But she pushed her fears down and she took a deep breath. What's done is done. Now she just had to roll with the punches.

mothclan resides in a thickly-wooded coniferous forest. it's quite cold
and difficult to navigate, but the clan's warriors familiarize themselves with
it duringtheir training. not much light comes through the treetops, which its
members use to their advantage. most cats are darkly colored in order to hide
in the shadows. there are also a couple of lakes throughout, but they aren't
very close to home. on the lush forest floor you'll find voles, squirrels, and
shrews, as well as birds like woodpeckers and nuthatches. the clan's camp
is located deep within this forest, with most cats making their homes within
thickets or fallen logs. the leader addresses the clan from a tall tree near the
northern edge of the camp that also serves as their den. the medicine cat's
den is under a mossy rock.

there is a stream south of the camp. if you follow it southward, you'll find that
it flows into a lake known as lake somnium. this is where the leader and
medicine cat communicate with starclan.

the cats of mothclan are often diligent and methodical. they are impressive
trackers, mainly using scents to navigate the forest. as they prefer not to get
involved in other clans' affairs, they are often seen as cold and standoffish, but
taking a closer look, they are almost like one large family. their strong sense of
unity has proven time and time again to be one of their greatest strengths. they
are also very spiritual.
