I'd suggest infinityfree.net for unlimited free host :)

You might want to try one of these sites:

Beginners
These websites will allow you to create a website and host it on their servers, coding knowledge is not necessary

http://www.easyrpg.com/
http://www.growasig.com/
http://www.myfirstworld.com
http://www.myvirtualpetsite.com/

Advanced
These websites are for more advanced users, they provide the codes and scripts for a pet website but you'll need to find your own webhost and install the files yourself. Not recommended for beginners.

http://www.mysidiaadoptables.com/ - provides php scripts for coding an adoptable site but doesn't host your site for you
http://kitto.yasashiisyndicate.org/ - another free provider of pet website codes, doesn't host website for you
http://www.modulargaming.com/ - this site is still under development

okay, so I have to ask:
what if we start off using one of the beginner ones, but want to "advance" to another site? are we going to have to redo everything from scratch (I would assume)?
honestly I want to just jump right into the more advanced ones, but I really don't want to stress myself out. but I've always wanted to make my own game like webkinz/animal jam/howrse, whatever, so this is something I want to do for many years + professionally.

also, how does copyright work? does cs pay for copyright rights? is it apart of the site you've built it on? is there no copyright even on cs? ugh I feel the stress coming <>

copyrights are an automatic thing, you don't really need any legal help for them. if you made it first, you have automatic copyright. thats why art theft is such a bit deal.

that's not really true, you have to pay for copyright and it is a legal thing so if someone steals it you can legally sue them... yes if someone steals your art that's not acceptable but if you tried to take it to court no one would care. plus it's not protected legally so they can't do anything about it...

You do not have to pay for copyright. You may be referring to a patent or something, or it may be different where you live, but here it is free and automatic.

They probably went out of business/no longer exist. You'll probably have to find another pet site builder to work off of c: I haven't looked for any myself - The only one I'm familiar with is mysidia adoptables haha

I want to second this! Jcink has some really helpful features included extensive forum building and a "shop" mechanism.
