district apartments Autumn yawned, pushing her wavy, pale blonde hair from her face as she rose from her small bed. Even with a hefty scholarship, she hadn’t been able to afford much more than a tiny appartement in the western district. Stretching a bit, she glanced at the stack of open textbooks on her desk, suddenly remembering her exam on Monday with a moan. Thinking to herself, she decided her GPA and general understanding of the content were good enough to go just one day without studying. Sticking her tongue out at the books, she went to go get ready for the day.
After freshening up, the university student grabbed her purse and jacket eagerly, excited to head out for the day. Perhaps she’d go to the animal shelter and volunteer, or maybe visit the local history museum. She was heading to the door of her apartment when she suddenly remembered her phone. Rushing back to her nightstand, she unplugged it and opened it up, checking for any new messages. However, oddly enough she had no signal. She tilted her head curiously, even in the poorest neighborhoods there was usually at least 2 bars...perhaps an error?
Autumn slipped the phone in her purse anyway and opened the door, stepping into the narrow hallway of her appartement complex. She was halfway to the elevator when she heard a strange grumble behind her. The blonde girl turned around in surprise to find a strange creatures standing before her. It was pale and sickly, it’s hair ragged, it’s nails were more like claws and it’s eyes glowed a strange, pale, pupil-less white.
It lunged at her, teeth bared, and she screamed, whacking it with her purse. Dodging beneath its scraggly arms, she rushed back to her appartement and slammed the door. She held her breath, as the thing lurched tot he door and began banging and moaning against it. Terrified, she pushed the night dresser against the door to temporarily block it as she searched her mind for a solution.
It was then that the horrified girl saw that on her left arm was a long scratch. She immediately grabbed her first aid kit and began to hide the wound, her mind rushing back in forth. That thing, whatever disease or parasite was infecting it, she prayed it wasn’t contagious.

Tags; open♣ Location: suburbs There were few things that Casper genuinely loved, but Saturday mornings were one of them. He enjoyed sleeping until the sunlight woke him up with its welcoming rays. He treasured walking down the steps of his home to the smell of freshly made pancakes in the kitchen. He favored the day of no work, no school, and no responsibilities.
Smiling ever so slightly, he glanced at the clock as he rose from slumber. It was already eight o’clock, a bit later then he would have preferred, but it was close enough to his ideal wake up time as not to ruin his good mood. Rushing down the stairs, he breathed in deeply, but then turned and gagged. The air that filled his lungs did not smell of banana and strawberry pancakes dampened with a bit too much syrup. Instead, it smelled of rot and iron, no, blood.
His parents were gone, the front door was wide open, the kitchen was a mess, and worst of all, a gangly creature stood before him, groaning and moaning. In a fearful panic, he grabbed the closest frying plan and attacked, until it moved no more. Once the situation appeared safer, he reexamined the monster. It kind of looked like Mrs.Murphy, his neighbor, but scrawnier and with pale white eyes.
Suddenly, the strange echo of the woman reached forward, causing Casper to jump back and grab the frying pan. A body that broken should not move. It should not be reaching after him. This was a thing of dreams, or nightmares. An infected, a walker, an undead, a zombie...
He raised his frying pan menacingly before running back up the stairs and onto the balcony, then climbing up the rooftop, the broken beast crawling after him. From the roof of his home in the suburbs, he did not see a beautiful Saturday; he saw a broken hell’s cape dotted with hordes of monsters. This was it, the end of mankind.

Tags; open♣ Location: Central bank Cindy was accustomed to early wake up calls, but this was different. Her dad had dragged her from her bed at 4AM in the morning, instructing her to quickly pack her bags. Confused, but obedient, the future heir of the Angeli Corporation quickly packed a suitcase with some essentials and followed her father to the entrance of the mansion, where her mother and two of their servants were waiting. The chauffer lead them to a jet black limousine and the family drove off.
The red headed girl knew her place and didn’t ask questions, instead opting to stare out the window in silence. At one point, her mother even reached into her lap and held her hand, something she didn’t do often, leading Cindy to be filled with a sense of comfort as well as worry. Eventually, they arrived at the central city bank, a large building visited by the richest of Hollowbridge.
Her father was close friends with the bank’s owner, so the young university student had visited the establishment many times, but this time it looked quite different. The windows were boarded up and the property was surrounded by a makeshift wall of barbed wire and wood planks. Leaving behind the limo, an armed escort met them and lead them into the bank.
Finally, Cindy piped up,
”Father, what in heaven’s name is going on around here?” Her father turner and sighed in reply, placing his strong hand on her petite shoulder.
“Oh my precious little cinnamon roll, please don’t worry. Some nasty things are going on in the eastern and western districts, so we’ve closed off the central district for now. My friend here has opened up this area as a safe house for his closest finders. We’ll be safe here, I promise.” Cindy smiled to comfort her father, but on the inside she screamed a bit. She was getting tired of being treated like a child by him, and his so-called explanation left her with more questions than answers. Above all, though, she wondered if the poor people outside the central district would be safe from whatever danger lurked out there.
