She steadied her stance as the dizziness dissipated. It’d been a long jump. At least it’d worked. She could still go for a few more.

She stared down the barrel of a loaded gun, but the weapon didn’t concern her as much as the startling sense of familiarity that struck her as she met those concentrated green eyes. A familiarity she hadn’t noticed before, but now couldn’t seem to shake. Her eyebrows quirked up and she raised her chin defiantly, almost daring the woman to pull the trigger as she dragged her gaze around the room. A quick catalogue of her surroundings to memorise the interior and the invisible curves of the world she could jump through.

Her attention returned to the weapon pointed at her face. Her own words had been twisted so expertly and so calmly. No surprises there – the woman was a government worker. She wanted a name to that face in front of her. She wasn’t about to ask for it, but the curiosity had risen inside her.

I’m merely pointing out that the massacre down there is not on us. We didn't shoot wildly into the crowd.
Neither sides were guilty of collateral. It was a price of war to pay, and she'd had to pay it, too. She laughed bitterly, throwing her hands up as she spun around. “Look at me. No weapon, no backup. Not fighting behind anyone. Just me and you.

I never fight behind anyone. Don't suppose you'd know what that feels like, sniper.
She dropped her hands back to her side.

You tried to arrest me for existing. Do you even know my name? I doubt it. I don’t know yours. I don’t know your experiences and you don’t know mine. I don’t know if you’re powered like me or if you’re just a human. It shouldn’t matter. It does matter – but only because your people made it matter.

She took a calculated step forward, gaze on that finger on the trigger. “The difference between your people and mine – and also civilians, too. Your people will always have a choice.

Put that gun down or fire that bullet.

    I’m not afraid. Are you?
    She was tensed to jump.

They should trust your decisions. You’re adviser for a reason.” Although, he didn’t particularly like the tension between him and Fireflies now. He’d have to sort it out later, because for now he had bigger fish to fry. His brow furrowed with the revelation that they knew nothing. They were operating completely in the dark with no idea of anything going on around them. It wasn’t good odds – but they could roll with it. They were rolling with it. She’d just put her trust in him, and he wasn’t about to let her down. He flashed her a small smile. “I’ve got your six, Jess. Don't worry.

He was about to say more, but a shift in his peripheral had him glancing away from the adviser. His eyebrows shot upwards as he watched his friend’s attempt to sneak out of the base in the most conspicuous way possible – so conspicuous that it was practically the real life equivalent of a movie character tiptoeing out with a traffic cone on their head. Maybe in the movies that method would actually work. Not here. Banks was clearly not good at stealth work.

Banks…” he allowed time to slow to a crawl. It was a serious situation, but he was still struggling to hold in laughter. That medic was the last one he’d expect to attempt to disobey orders. Now he was failing to do so in slow motion. “What the heck are you trying to do?

[the outside: market place] - [task force 117 enforcer] - [mediumship ; ectoplasmic manipulation] - [tagged ansel]

It had worked. Pan had managed to disarm his targets, yanking the weapons away and tossing them to the side. However, he didn’t have much time to celebrate. He watched as a man appeared from the crowd and moved in front of the rebel woman, Wren landing a shot on the man instead. The sight was gruesome and as time went on the battlefield just seemed to get bloodier. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go. This mission was only meant to be a patrol. He shut his eyes and tried to shake the thought from his mind. He opened them and readied to battle.

At least he tried to. When he opened his eyes, the world remained dark. Pan blinked hard, hoping it would fix whatever was going on. He felt the panic rise in his chest as he shifted around, the sounds of the market still loud in his ears but all visuals being replaced by darkness. It was then that he heard it. Footsteps.

He could barely make out the sound but they were there. And they were growing. Quickly, he needed to act. The cause of his blindness was now apparent, someone was causing it and Pan could bet that it was most likely the same person barreling towards him. That meant whoever it was had an advantage, they had most likely trained like this. Pandora felt his anxiety start to rise even more as he realized just what he was up against. That thought was interrupted, the footsteps now much closer. Pan braced himself to take the blow and then, he heard it.

    Left. Now.

The ghostly voices were barely audible over the sound of the crowd yet, Pan knew that if he didn’t act now he was screwed. Pan shifted to the left and winced as he felt something slam into his shin. The enforcer stumbled forward before regaining his balance. He turned to face where the attacker had come from. “Thanks for the assist” he mumbled, the spirits cackling in his ears. Pan knew if he was going to survive this fight he would have to rely solely on them, the thought of which sent a chill down his spine. Steadying himself, he allowed their voices to overtake his senses. He frowned as all other sound melted away, his life now being put in the hands of the dead. “Bring it big boy” he growled.

saša milovanović (milo) | the general | dark magic | surface | tagged: edie, ansel, nic, wren, TARS, pandora | mentioned: n/a

they could feel the crunch of bone as the kick connected, lances of absolute torment shooting up through their spine. specks of black and white peppered their vision, and they stumbled blind before finally righting themselves. that leg wasn't moving again--not like that. milo clenched their teeth, watching the way TARS seemed to snap into some kind of sordid calm.

"milovanović...” the name that slipped from the android's mouth made milo's blood boil. how kind of him to remember. maybe he also remembered the taste of the general's bullet in his mouth as they screamed in rage and agony after their sight had been taken from them.

“surrender you and your men at once. you are under arrest for attacking an officer... and public endangerment. as well as being a rebel.”

that robotic tone was stuttering, and milo wondered, just briefly, if TARS was really in worse shape than he appeared.

“i will not let you or your friends go. i have a j-job to do.. and i will see to its fulfillment.”

the general laughed. it was a wry, low laugh, unkind in nature.

"you're an idiot to even ask something like that. you think i give a damn about your little 'world peace' agenda? sorry, but i think not. i have no interest in the public you claim to protect or in your pledge to purge us. turn myself over? you must jest. do you really think i would go willingly into the night?"

milo pulled colt's hammer back. blood was seeping between their olive fingers, and they could feel the warm stickiness of it along the inside of their coat, the stench of iron heavy in their nose. their arms were itching, their scalp crawling and bones aching. that's right. there was no way they were giving up easily. for them. for him.

hands desperately hovered over his bruised skin, as if willing the power to heal into their fingertips. reassurances spilled from their lips as they gathered him into their arms, carefully, so carefully. as though he were glass. still, he writhed in pain, such terrible pain, and milo could only imagine how many bones must be broken, what the damage inside him must have been like.

but "hold on," they still said. "hold on," like an idiot, like there was something that could be done to save him when they already knew the answer. when his slim, bloodied fingers were clutching at their chest in a frenzy, a futile attempt to seek relief as he sobbed. as he choked out cries of suffering.

the memories of it fueled their fury.

"...no. you can kill me here, if you wish. but look me in the eye and tell me what he did that deserved death as a punishment, first." their eye narrowed, gaze scorching and toxic. "that is. if you can."

what was she saying... how did she get it? she couldn't stop her own thoughts from returning to her childhood home. again. what was it about michael that made her want to take him there? to show him how she had indeed had a "normal" life before all of this mess. how her bed had been pink, and her nails often were too... that she did have a family, though they were little more than ghosts now. figments of her imagination and hauntings of her memories. and the way he spoke of his... how he had lost a brother to nostalgia as well. her eyes dropped from his to the floor. you're exposing yourself, tish... thoughts of her own childhood hadn't quite drifted away, and the way he spoke of his family... it was familiar. painfully familiar, but still there all the same. he was pacing now, not-so-quiet anxiety radiating off of him.

tish shifted to the fridge, tugging two clementines from its drawer. food always helped her stay calm. that was exactly what she needed now. already she had begged that pounding muscle in her chest to soothe but it was fighting back. maybe it was a nervous tick, but as long as her fingers had something they could work at, she could keep her cool. maybe he was the same way?

she tossed the fruit at him, almost gasping as she realized her delayed warning, "oh- michael..!!"

how quickly voices were scattering the culmination of horror. the familiar weight of a lifeless body dropped into the concrete just three feet to his right. edie had yelled something. TARS was seething. but there was no time to respond to each and every cry. he had to draw his focus. he had to react.

the slender being had lept from in front of him and, though he had been prepared for some type of counter, he took an extra staggering step to regain his balance. curses fell. then the man snarled, “bring it big boy...”

heat had already been roaring up in the deepest chambers of the massive soldier's chest but something about his tone- about the way that little fiend hissed like he had already won the battle. he would see soon enough. he was no mindless chess piece in this game. he made his own calls and fought just as hard as the rest of his family. that was just it. he had grown.

years of fury pent in from unrealistic expectations. ansel, do this. ansel do that. ansel, clean up my mess- take care of your mother... take that guy out. hey meathead, come at me... “bring it big boy...” his lips curled as he stationed his footing. then a familiar call to action, but this one grounded in belief and in intimacy, resounded through the craze, "ansel, get up, and punch harder."

like coal in the belly of that great iron beast, roaring down its track and through the vast, effortless night, he summoned his courage. maybe it had been a week ago? 5 days? edie had pinned him on that wretched mat after hours of training and his heart had been beating so fast he feared it would nearly burst. she had been good that night- no, she had been caliber, and unstoppable. had had lost count of the blows she had landed, and though he had connected several times too, the swiftness of mind and of follow-though in her was unmatched. head pounding with rage and sweat dripping down his face, she had grabbed a fist full of his shirt and hissed those words. how many nights had he fought her and given up... none. and that was because out of all of the fights and exhausted moments of weakness, how many had she let him escape from... none. yeah, she was right... he knew this way, this darkness. he knew the way his body moved, how he could dance around his enemy blinded, or not, and take down a threat. this was what he had been training for, and no tiny, taskforce scum was going to rid him of that power. "...and make it count." he bared his teeth and glided around the little soldier, following through with his inital course of action. heel connected with the man's knee. he would make it count. this time, he would for sure.

"Mhm." She replied. "I know Althy, it's so sad. " She pouted, she sat in a chair at the table. She didnt like being around a lot of people at once, because she wasnt social. She got anxious around a lot of people. And what happened when she got anxious? She became rude, and defensive. She handled 3 people at once best. Milo, they were awesome, she loved them, they stopped her from being taken in by taskforce officers... Graham.. Her father figure, who was killed and Mavis vowed to kill the souls who hurt him..... and Michael, her older brother, who took her in and cared for her from day one of them meeting each other. She spent a lot of time in her head, just fighting the voices. On a constant, she would hear demons egging her on to do stuff, because she could achieve a lot if she went all evil. But she didn't want it. She'd do anything to just be.... normal. The girl knocked herself out of her thoughts and sighed. "Hi guys." She said gently, suprising herself.

Jessica Marie|20 yo|Rebel Adviser|Shiftier & Shadows|Entrance|Jasper & Banks & Akiko & Shinoto

Although Jess was a confident person, it felt nice to be patted on the back for doing her job. Milo made it clear that they trusted her to do her job. She knew fireflies didn’t particular like her, probably because Jess had taken the adviser position from her. Though Jess didn’t see as it being her fault. She was chosen for the role after all. It wasnt like she had beaten fireflies in hand to hand combat, which Jess was confident she’d beat her in. A small smirk developed on her lips as she thought about that idea of spilling fireflies blood.

Jasper’s words hit her like a cold breeze. She hated the cold but this felt refreshing. Someone actually said they have her back and even used the nickname, Jess. It had been long since someone had used her nickname. A small smile tweaked at the corner of her lips as she nodded her head slightly forward in thanks. ’’ I appreciate it. Thank you.’’ While standing at the entrance with Jasper, she felt a hard hit in her head and instinctively put her hand on the side of her head with a small whimper. What is this all the sudden? Her mind began to wander as she grimaced into the darkness. After the headache passed, she noticed Jasper looking away, at something in particular.

Following his eyes, her own landed on Banks. A bored expression crossed her face as she realized he wanted to be let out. Crossing her arms, she turned her body to face him. ”Mr. Banks.” She had a motherly tone to her voice, sounding as if she caught her son’s hand in the cookie jar. ”Where do you want to go? Her left eyebrow raised as she looked down on Banks. ”You know the rules. No one out, except soldiers. And last i checked, you are a medic. We’ll need you here in case the group gets back and is injuries. Hopefully not, but planning for the worst.”

    Flash!

Another one hit her head with the same amount of vengeance as the last. Was something coming and she didn’t know about it? But why physical hurt her? Her physical body dropped her knees, holding her head.

    Inside her head

Her shadow stepped out, emitting a dark blue hue around her body. It looked like a young version of Jessica and was very upset. A dark blue hued wolf stepped out beside her, snarling loudly. ”Who are you to disturb us?” Her voice was sterner as she walked forward with the wolf. ”Keep it up and you’ll only kill me. Though im not sure you’ll have time to react to your own death.” The little girl gave a devilish grin and sent the wolf out. ”you’ve done it now. Ill have fun tasting your blood.” The little one giggled before casting Shinoto out of her head.

    Back To Reality

A loud growl came from her chest as her bones were visibly twisting and audibly cracking. He dares to enter my own head and control me. ’’ill kill him for getting in my head.” Her voice sounded sinisterly as she muttered her words. Shadows swarmed around her hunched over body almost creating a dark mass. From where Jasper was standing next to her, he would be able to see the female changing some aspects of her body. Her jaw area had gotten bigger, changing over to her wolfs and revealing the fangs. Next were her hands. Her finger nails and part of her fingers had changed over into claws. Then she had bowed legs like a dog would but longer, making her height shoot up to 5 foot 10 inches.

Standing up with the black shadows swarming like a bunch of angry bees, her glare went into the darkness. Her rage was boiling rapid. With her shadows around her and her temper rising, parts of her skin were actually becoming shadows. She had become something you only saw in horror movies. Jess stood there for about 10 seconds before she took off into the darkness with one mind set. To Kill Shinoto.

Over here. A shadow whispered. Jess was following it till she finally found Shinoto not far away. Letting out a loud huff, something you would hear an animal do when challenging other. Akiko wasnt even in her sight despite sitting next to Shinoto. ”you dare get into my head!” Her voice echoed off the walls. Both tone and loudness chilling to hear. All the while saying so, she was walking towards him. A steady long growl in her chest. ”I’m going to kill you.” Red clouded her vision as she proceeded towards him menacingly. This was the first time her anger had gotten so high. While walking her skin was separating itself into shadows, giving off an appearance that she was fading away in some areas. With glowing red eyes and a smiling fanged tooth maw.

Since CS made me change my signature because they didn’t like that my officer died for someone bad, I hope he finds rest while others hate him for doing his job and sacrificing his life.

Akiko rolls her eyes as she saw Jessica threatening Shinoto.Akiko looked at Shinoto who still had his eyes closed. She guessed he was already out of her head but was just recollecting. The problem Witt Shinoto’s powers was that when he walks into another persons head,he usually sits there for another minute recollecting his own mind.Shinoto had brought Akiko into his mind before and it was a mess.Akiko admires Shinoto How his mind can be so messed up but he still lives happily.Shinoto finally opened his eyes”It would be best you stand back,Akiko.I started this,I will handle it”Shinoto had a smile. She nodded and walked 5 yards away and stood watching the commotion. She was confused by the smile Shinoto had given her.

Shinoto. Tags:Jessica

Shinoto’s head hurt but he was used to this pain by now.He felt disappointed that he couldn’t shut out all the voices. He couldn’t kill thoughts, eventually they would’ve woken back up.The other voices must’ve taken over completely.Shinoto gets up quickly without using the ground to help him.He stood there and stretched his arms backwards and his upper body forward”I don’t care if I die.Won’t change much”Shinoto smiled as he said this.He never feared death.Death was just an inevitable end to everyone,a fact of life that he accepted long ago. With Shinoto’s powers he has to accept that his powers could kill him.Shinoto looked at the wolf. The one that shut him out of Jessica’s mind. The one he saw in the snow. His smile became warm and he started laughing’It’s disappointing that I didn’t realize how beautiful Jessica’s mind and powers were until now’Shinoto thought. He’s walked in Jessica’s mind many times before.Shinoto has liked Jessica since he joined but never got close enough to get to know her.He never found something to talk about.Shinoto sometimes does a mental check on everyone sometimes to make sure there’s nothing going on.He always finds something but he never interferes. It wasn’t his business. But he always checked Jessica last so he could spend the most time in her head. He’s always been fascinated by her mind.He knows his way around her mind.

He snapped back into reality and is now focused on Jessica’s wolf face”Your mind is beautiful.Truely unique”He says lowly but knows Jessica could hear.He wasn’t going to hide the fact that he was in her mind.

His arms felt heavy and he had a migraine. He looked down and his hair covered his eyes providing shade to help him.Usually he would be wearing his sunglasses but they were in his car.He bit his lip as if that would help numb his pain.He looked back at Jessica awaiting her attack. He knew it was coming. He knows ’The Wolf’very well.

Indignation swept through her, and her earlier thoughts were dismissed. Was he blind? She was coming, couldn’t Hugo see? She clenched her jaw, rather tightly as she fought the urge to send a painful slap across the older man’s face. His next words set a fire in her heart. She was remotely fine, as far as he was concerned. “I’m perfectly fine, no thanks to you.” It was profoundly true, and she meant it with all of her heart. She needed no one to care about her, not anymore at least. Letting her gaze trail to the female gatherer, she briskly strode past the duo through the catacombs.

Continuing her path of travel towards the upper city, she breathed a sigh as the familiar scene of towering buildings settled into place. Chicago, city of the United States. Throwing a mere glance at her infuriating companions, she admired the scenery around her for the briefest of moments, before slowing her pace to a steady walk. Be normal. The thought shot through her mind, like a bullet propelling through flesh and she let it cradle her movements for the time being.

Act casual. His movements were perfectly calculated, each one used for a special purpose. None of them were wasted. A small smile twitched on his features as he recognized the fellow enforcers gesture and sauntered up to her, his footstep brisk, before slowing to a ‘normal’ walking pace. High buildings towered above him, and he observed the perimeter around him, keeping a close eye watch for any suspicious people. He let his palm brush against Addeline, and drew moisture to his lips with a slight swipe of his tongue.
The moments of silence were unbearable for Jaxon, and was delighted to hear the slightest echo of gunshots. Bingo.

His breathing was hitched, he had a hiccup. Every time he’d try and breathe in his mechanisms would seize up and cease the intake. His body would not allow the intake, for it was too badly damaged. Luckily he didnt need air to survive.
The man stood silently like a sentinel. He listened to Milo. He read them. They, unlike their fellow rebels, understood how to act. Their facade was immeasurable. Only to himself did he compare. His head tilted slightly to the side and he grinned softly
do you really think i would go willingly into the night?
“Yet you rage.. you rage against the dying of your own light.” He finished for them before a chin gently lifted and stared them down. They were now equal. Milo and their eyepatch. TARS and his broken eyeball, hanging limply from its socket. Only slightly disturbing.
He shifted his stance a little and blinked a few times. The android made a face. Their next words were so odd, and yet out of the ordinary. It looked like he had something in his eye, and looked curious.
He knew what they were talking about
“Death was only the beginning, Milo.” He said aloud, voice stuttering with a slight glitch to it
“Your special friend was certainly special. A little too.. special. He had a choice and he chose the better option. He is taken good care of, I can tell you that much.”
He lifted his knife and pointed it at them, narrowing his good eye
“Leave this place, Milovanović. I never want to see you up here again. Do you understand me?”

“yet you rage... you rage against the dying of your own light.”

the two were perfectly matched--king against king, flame against flame. the heat of that rage cast a glow like the sun, violent and lashing out with a ferocity that would burn any who drew near. they each stood their ground; milo would not falter, would not dare look away, and they doubted stellar would waver in turn. two sides of the same coin, each intemperate and uncontrolled. without bridle, the brutality of their clash might drag in those uninvolved... but the general was tempted. here before them was an enemy that they'd loathed for so long, mortally wounded and mirroring the mutant's half blindness.

    maim him.

    kill him.

make him suffer like that light had as it died.

perhaps milo might have let it be. perhaps they would have had the humility to accept that a continuation of this venture would be foolish, and have chosen to walk away. but the android spoke, and the words on his silvery lips boiled the general's blood, curdled it in their veins.

    "death was only the beginning, milo. your special friend was certainly special. a little too.. special. he had █ cho█c█ and h█ █ho█e t██ be██e█ o█t███. █e ██ ███en ████ ███e ██, ████ █ ██ █ ████ ████."

milo didn't hear most of what TARS had to say. his voice cut out, was submersed by the red that swallowed the general's sight. death was only the beginning. what more could they have done to him? how much more could they have made him suffer in the mere moments that graham's body likely had left? even the thought of those cries being prolonged, of that look of torment being extended... milo no longer cared who was caught in the crossfire. all they cared for was to have the android's mechanical heart served to them on a platter stained in silver.

they could feel the pinch of something pushing through their skin as black, downy feathers broke out along their neck and arms, spreading like a disease along their jaw and behind the crest of their ears. they could feel them press along the sleeves of their jacket, ruffling painfully, and the pain in their hip seemed to all but disappear as their blackened fingertips numbed. their gaze was as crimson as the warm liquid smeared over their palms, as cold as the fractured ice that clung to the asphalt beneath their feet. they felt their lungs fill with the chill of it.

“leave this place, milovanović. i never want to see you up here again. do you understand me?”

at the sound of their name, they stumbled forward, bone crackling audibly as they dropped their hand from their wound--like a beast being beckoned, one foot in front of the other.

    "TARS."

the name was quiet, softly spoken.

    "i'm going to kill you."

colt was forgotten. comrades and enemies alike became unworthy of note. milo's field of vision had narrowed to one man, and the creature hurled themselves at david without hesitation, clawed fingers reaching for his throat.
