"Listen closely," Parker commands, voice soft but authoritative, and the children gather, knowing by now that Parker's advice is rarely dull.
"To tread the noble path, you must be resilient. There are so many along your way who would lead you astray. Agents of the enemy may lie among your own friends and family - pitiful creatures who may not even realise the evil they are spreading. But the truth, my dears, is that mustard and ketchup alone cannot dress any hotdog worth eating. Instead, you must combine their strengths, annihilate their weaknesses, and employ the superior sauce - kustard."
The children laugh and shriek, and his ever-patient TA smiles.
"I agree!" she says, and for a moment, Parker feels truly understood. "Kustard, like ketchup and mustard together?"
"Yes," Parker replies, shoving the custard sachet further into his pocket and trying to hide his crushed expression. "That's exactly what I meant."

Parker wanted to see the stars.
As a kit he would dress up as an astronaut, lugging an oversized lightsaber in one paw and undersized spaceship in the other, and run in circles around the park, making all the appropriate spaceship noises as he went. It was fun, until his parents sat him down and explained gently that his game was actually very scientifically inaccurate, because there were no particles in space so sound could not travel, and really he should be running around silently. His eyes grew very wide, and he decided that maybe being an astronaut wasn't for him. He didn't like being quiet.

Parker wanted to see the stars.
He was a little older, a little less naive, and whilst he knew that astronauts didn't actually have to sit in silence all day, he also knew that his poor vision ruined any chances he may have had to get onto a space program. So he shifted his focus, throwing himself into sport with reckless abandon - if he couldn't reach the stars, maybe he could become one instead. But as the dizzying abstract behind his eyelids flashed before him after another concussing collision, he realised that though he was now seeing plenty of stars, these were definitely the wrong ones.

Parker wanted to see the stars.
Not just the ones in the sky, he discovered, but now he was grown (and perhaps a little wise) there were other stars he wanted to see. The stars in a kit's eyes as he listened to how their day was, at a time when every new joy is their entire universe; the stars in their eyes as they listened to his own tales, spinning the mundane everyday into the fantastical.

Parker wanted to see the stars; now, finally, he sees them.

"Honestly, there is no better condiment than sriracha mayo," Faust quipped with a smirk.

"It's creamy yet spicy and pairs well with whatever else I might want; Asian slaw? It's the best. Mustard or ketchup? You're good to go! Gosh, even relish works! I even tried mixing honey in it once ... my world was shook."

The young kalon grinned from ear to ear for a moment.

"I really got into it because of my grandmother. That lady slapped the stuff on just about anything! Eggs, burgers, hot dogs,..she even tried it on savory waffles."

Faust paused as a look of grief slowly washed over his face, "My father used to hate it, but after she died,.. he's come around to liking it. I think it makes him think of her... At least, I know it does for me. I actually miss her a lot. She was a really cool person."
