CS Pet Guide Project

Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to build a guide that helps users identify the site's most valuable pets, and provides factual information about those pets to help users make educated trading decisions. It does not order pets into a prescriptive trading list. This guide will incorporate 2008 pets, UR pets, Store pets, Zebras and particularly valuable 09 pets.

Current Discussion Topics
  1. What should we call this guide?
    .
  2. Please help us write our current drafts

Overview

This guide can help you identify the most valuable pets on Chicken Smoothie.
It provides information about some of the oldest and rarest pets to help you make educated trades.
It does not list the pets in value order, as there are no strict rules about pet values.

C$ Store Pet Guide

Store pets can be purchased with Chicken Dollars (C$), this website's virtual currency.
C$ can be purchased with real money, or through trading with other players.

Store pets are released once every two months. Once a store pet is retired, it is never put up for sale again, but you can trade them with other players if you want an older/retired store pet. Most store pets become Rare or Very Rare once they gain their rarity tags. The oldest of store pets are now OMGSR.

Current store pets can be bought individually here
Current store pets can be bought as a set for a discount here

Tess does not consider Store Pets to be part of a complete collection (2009). It is up to you as an individual whether or not you wish to trade for store pets or consider them part of your normal collection.

-------------------------------------------

Trading Retired Store Pets

The following information should be kept in mind when trading retired store pets.
You should pay attention to the store pet's age (year of release) and rarity tag, but also...

    • Older store pets are usually considered more valuable because they are usually rarer
    • More popular store pets were bought more, so there are more around meaning they are lower rarity
    • Less popular store pets were bought less, so there are less around meaning they are higher rarity
    • Some pets could only be purchased as part of a full set, so they have a higher rarity than their littermates
    • Store pets are usually Rare or Very Rare. The oldest retired store pets are now OMGSR.
    • Store pets are never rereleased, so they increase in rarity compared to normal pets but only once per year.
    • Store pets usually cost 20C$ when released, but are worth more once they are retired.

Store Pet Historical Information

Skelebun & Orange Cerberus were the first Store Pets. They were more expensive than other store pets, and only available from Oct - Nov 2009, although they were accidentally included in the first two rereleases. This makes them the most rare and valuable of store pets. Skelebun was the first store pet to go OMGSR, making it the rarest. Orange Cerberus was released at the same time and was more expensive, but it turned OMGSR at a later date which means it was purchased more. Orange Cerberus was the first pet on the cerberus lines.

Drink Me & Eat Me were also released in Oct 2009, but were available until Feb 2010 so their rarity is lower. Drink Me was more popular than Eat Me so more were bought which is why it turned OMGSR after Eat Me did. This is the same for Green Liontail and Raven Dog, who are still Very Rare while their littermates are OMGSR. They have higher demand but also higher supply. More people like them, but there are more around.

Winged Green Android was the first store pet that could not be purchased individually, only as part of a set. This means this outcome is rarer than its littermates because less would have been bought. This will be the same for all store pets that are set exclusives (only available when you buy the full set). Even today there are store pets released this way.

Red Cerberus is one of only two Cerberus pets on the site. It was released a long time after Orange Cerberus, but some people mistake them for being littermates. When Orange Cerberus went OMGSR, traders started valuing Red Cerberus a lot higher in trades, and this misunderstanding may be part of the reason why. Orange Cerberus was one of the first store pets in 2009, while Red Cerberus was released in 2010.

    Original Pet Prices
    Orange Cerberus cost 44C$
    Skelebun cost 35C$
Drink Me, Eat Me, Patchwork Dog, Raven Dog, Marionette Dog and Clockwork Bun cost 25C$
All other store pets cost 20C$ each unless they were set exclusives (sets are usually 50-60C$)

Special Release Pet Guide

Special Release pets are bonus pets that very lucky users may find.
They are amongst the rarest pets on the site, with many being OMGSR.

-------------------------------------------

Trading Special Release Pets

The following information should be kept in mind when trading special release pets.

    • The most important thing to consider is their Rarity Tag
    • Age/release year is not important for Special Release pets due to the unique way they are released
    • Zebras are OMGSR, but how they compare to other long term OMGSRs is unknown
    • Blue Dragon PPS may have a similar rarity to other pets that went OMGSR during the Jan 2019 rarity update
    • White Dragon was Very Rare long before Red Dragon, but is lower rarity than Blue Dragon PPS
    • Red Dragon turned Very Rare around the same time as some Sept 08 pets

-------------------------------------------

Special Release Pets - Zebras

The rarest special release pets are the Black & White Zebras.
There is a very small chance for a player to adopt a Zebra when they adopt horses or ponies each month.
Most players will adopt horses and ponies for years without adopting a Zebra, because they are so rare.

Plains Zebra - Grevy's Zebra - Mountain Zebra

Plains Zebra is always OMGSR.
Grevy's Zebra is always OMGSR.
Mountain Zebra was briefly Very Rare before returning to OMGSR.

-------------------------------------------

Special Release Pets - Dragons

There was a very small chance for a player to adopt one of these special Malk Dragons when they adopted a Malk Pet.
Malk Pets are no longer released as regular adopts, so these dragons are now only available during the annual Dec 18 rerelease.
Despite this, they are much less rare than the Zebras and this is reflected in their rarity tags and rarity change dates.

Blue PPS Dragon - White Dragon - Red Dragon

Blue PPS Dragon turned OMGSR during the Jan 2019 rarity update.
White Dragon has always been Very Rare.
Red Dragon turned Very Rare in June 2010.

-------------------------------------------

Special Release Pet Historical Information

The Zebras were first available in 2009.

White Malk Dragon was first available in 2009.

Red Malk Dragon was first available in February 2010.

Blue PPS Dragon was first available in April 2010, making it the newest but rarest of the Malk Dragons.

Unreleased (UR) Pet Guide

Unreleased (UR) pets are pets that are only available in the annual Dec 18 Rerelease event.
They are called UR or unreleased because they were never released throughout the year.
All users that adopt Dec 18 pets have a very small chance of adopting a new or old UR pet.
This makes them incredibly rare, with many having OMGSR rarity tags.
UR Pets can be found on the Special Releases pages in the Archives.

-------------------------------------------

Trading UR Pets

The following information should be kept in mind when trading UR pets.

    • The most important thing to consider is their Rarity Tag
    • Age/release year is less important for UR pets due to the unique way they are released
    • Most UR pets are OMGSR immediately, so their rarity in relation to other pets is unknown
    • Some UR pets stay OMGSR for a long time then drop to VR unexpectedly, which makes them hard to value

-------------------------------------------

UR Pets - Oldest to Newest

These are ordered by age, not value!

-------------------------------------------

UR Pet Rarity History

The following chart displays the number of months each year an UR pet has been OMGSR.

Image

-------------------------------------------

UR Pet Historical Information

The CS Rarity System was majorly overhauled in 2012. We do not know how this has impacted the UR pets, but those that were fluctuating in rarity before then seem to have settled down afterwards. 2012 Rarity System Details.

The CS Rarity System was again majorly overhauled in 2019. This caused a number of Very Rare UR pets to turn OMGSR. 2019 Rarity System Details.

UR Banana was not well received upon initial release in 2008, as some users decided to delete them. Since then, the site administrators have revealed that UR Banana is actually a popular wishlist pet - CS Most Wishlisted Pets in 2015.

UR Rat turned OMGSR the same time as UR Tiger, and neither pet has returned to VR.

UR Cookie Dog has been OMGSR while UR Ice Cat was Very Rare in 2013-2014, but in 2019 UR Ice Cat went OMGSR while UR Cookie Dog remained Very Rare.

UR Malk was first released in a separate box to the other UR pets. In 2010 there were two different Dec 18 rerelease boxes. One was a normal box that contained the usual lineart pets, while the other was a special Malk box that only contained pets on Malk's lineart. So the other three URs released this year were in the normal box, while the UR Malk was in the Malk box.
