er themselves and in turn destroyed their entire race. a vaccine said to c
ure every aliment was given to everyone. it began slowly, minor signs her
e and there, the awful smell that radiated off of them. they became abs
ent-minded creatures. loyal pets left immediately, sensing the danger th
at was soon to come. they played with fire and now they were burning w
ith no hope of return. dogs watched as their own owners turned on one a
nother. eyes turned bloodshot and cold to the touch, communication cea
sed. as time passed, it was discovered that two different strains of the v
accine caused different types of the walking corpses. the canines later n
amed these two different strains, one more dangerous than the other.
clickers are exactly what they sound like. their constant clicking alerts anyone
of their presence and they are attracted to sound, lacking vision and smell. a
s long as one is quiet, they pose little to no thread. they are quick in respons
e time and highly deadly. the second strain has been deemed the runners. th
ey are attracted by sight and sound. most active during the day, they are com
pletely blind at night. faster than their counterpart, this strain can sometime
s match the speed of a canine. the best option is to run if one is spotted and
too close for comfort. in the middle of a incredible large city, roads are block
ed and some places inaccessible. the dogs need to find a way out and into the
wilderness, in hopes of finding a normal life and not being exposed to the thr
eat of the strains and possible death. lack of food is becoming a problem now.

      as renata and ellie sheltered in a relatively safe area, she told renata stories of what she had seen, what the city was becoming. she begged her multiple times to run, leave the city and leave her. but, again, renata refused, โ€œwe protect each other,โ€ she reminded her friend firmly, feeling a pang of guilt for being so foolish. days passed โ€” weeks โ€” and ellie got sick. no matter what she tried, renata couldnโ€™t help her. then, one night she woke up to find ellie walking in a tight circle, her pupils dilated and her gaze unfocused. renata approached her and she lunged at her so suddenly that renata didnโ€™t see it coming. she tried for so long to talk sense to her and stop this crazed frenzy, but in the end she couldnโ€™t and she was forced to fight back. she had simply meant to subdue ellie, but it got out of control her her friend โ€” her sister โ€” lay motionless at her paws.
      after that, she found a pack and told them she had been born a loner. she was ashamed of everything that had gone wrong. she didnโ€™t want to be seen as a killer. so she tells no one of what happened that night. she became a scavenger and introduces herself as rena, meaning peaceful. she has a new beginning. a name reborn.

Calla was born in a dog fighting ring, but was tossed out along with the
rest of her litter because no one wanted to take care of pups. They were
picked up by animal control and cared for until they were weaned, but
unlike her siblings, she was never chosen to be adopted and was soon
determined to be too old for anyone to want. Rather than being
euthanized, a volunteer at the pound chased her away at a year old, and
she has been living on the streets ever since. Biting and sarcastic, Calla
has little to no patience for those who don't fend for themselves, even
if they are physically capable. However, she can be warm and nurturing
towards those who can't survive without her help, and can often be seen
surreptitiously dropping off prey and scraps of food for young pups and
disabled strays. She's extremely awkward when conversing with others
and her curt and dismissive tone makes it difficult for anyone to approach
her without being able to carry on almost the entire conversation on their
own. She doesn't dislike company, but doesn't think she needs it to survive.
