CREATING A TRIBEWhether you’re a new or returning player to CAT, your tribe will always need a proper starting post before a mod can begin replying to you properly. The introduction to your tribe requires its name, territory, threats, prey, and common coat colors that are found in their territory. Going in depth with describing its lore, temperament, and religion (the Tribe of Endless Hunting will always be the default if left unspecified) is optional, but recommended.
SECOND TRIBESIf you’ve been a member of CAT for five months and have been active for at least three out of those five, you have the option to create a second tribe. Unlike your first tribe where your mod is chosen for you, you have the ability to request which mod you’d like to reply to your tribe if you wish to. These requests will always be accepted so long as the current list is balanced. You cannot trade cats, prey, herbs, or special items between your two tribes and any attempts in doing so will result in an automatic strike.
If you ever grow disconnected with either, you're free to disband and restart after you've made 25 posts. You're allowed to transfer a max of five cats from your former to your new tribe, and your tribe is officially considered disbanded once the post for your new starter is made- meaning you can't trade them to other members. But you can gift cats, provided you screenshot proof of the exchange. Please get in contact with your mod if you wish to have the rest of your old tribe adopted out to the community.
OBTAINING CATSThere are multiple ways to gain more cats for your tribe, but the main ones are from patrols you send your cats on, or by having your healer make a request to your tribe’s ancestors once every two posts. When your tribe reaches 25 cats, you may request a cat every four posts. When it reaches 50 cats, your chances of finding cats on patrols decreases. There are other ways to obtain cats, which are listed down below!
FRIDAY RAFFLEEvery Friday, a member of staff posts a unique cat breed on the fanclub that cannot be found on patrol or requested from your tribe’s ancestors. There will be a form in the post where members fill out their username and their tribe’s name and PM the raffle host with their information. The raffle continues throughout the week and ends on Friday, where the winner is announced and the next cat is put up.
BIRTHDAY CATIf it is the month of your birthday, then you can PM me (deimos) three cat breeds of your choice. I will then put them in a randomizer and give you one cat out of those three.
READOPTSWhen an entire tribe is put UFA - whether from a user who has been banned, decided to quit, or who simply wanted to downsize, their cats are adopted out to other users on the fanclub. Each readopt is to be handled by a member of staff, and all come with their own set of guidelines that users are meant to follow. Users who received strikes or warnings in the past are not eligible to adopt.
TRADINGTrading is an unavailable feature at this time.
EVENTSEvents will most often take the form in small writing competitions a week or two before the following holidays: New Year’s, Valentine’s, Chinese New Year, St. Patrick’s, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. Cats in these events can have from one up to three powers, and participants are expected to finish up their prompts before the deadline for a chance to take one home.
UNIQUE BREEDSAs previously mentioned in the friday raffle explanation, there are certain breeds that are raffle exclusive. At the moment, these breeds are: munchkins, scottish folds, sphynxes, savannahs, toygers, bengals, and breeds with pushed in faces such as the persian or exotic shorthair.
For your first five posts, you will be given real images of cats to add into your tribe (or written descriptions, if specified in your tribe's starter). As per ChickenSmoothie’s rule concerning image use, every image in CAT is to be free-to-use and you will be asked to change any images that break this rule. For example, image urls coming from sites like pinterest, tumblr, weheartit, etc. are considered invalid while urls from sites like pixabay, unsplash, and pexels are free-to-use.
After those five posts are over, you can ask your mod to continue giving you F2U images or ask for your tribe to be transferred onto our official
lineart (created by
skinklegs). These lines are intended for CAT’s use only. If you are to leave at any point in time in the future, then you may not keep the lineart or color-ins obtained during your time and will be asked to transfer your designs to another set of lineart (if you wish to take your cats with you).
PATROLLINGA tribe’s borders always need to be protected and inspected! This is a job best meant to be performed by your guards/guard equivalent, but when your tribe is first starting out, patrolling can be worked out among every available adult feline until your ranks swell up enough. You are able to send out a max of five border patrols in one post, with six cats being the max amount you’re able to take per patrol. Any more, and you’ll greatly lessen your chances of encountering prospecting members for your tribe. A selection of things can happen while your tribe is out; you can encounter predators, new cats, or perhaps nothing at all. If your healer is taken along - they have a chance of collecting a single herb. If a mentor and a to-be are sent on patrol together, the to-be has a chance of catching a single serving of prey to impress them. However, this cannot happen if the to-be hasn’t learned the hunting skill.
The bigger your tribe gets, the more patrols you’ll be able to send out. For every 25 cats after you hit 50, you can add one new piece of prey to your fresh-kill pile as well another patrol.
HUNTING & PREYA tribe must have a well stocked fresh-kill pile to feed every member in it. While this job is best performed by prey-hunters/PH equivalents, it can be divided among every adult feline when your tribe starts off. You have five posts to begin stockpiling prey, and once those are over, your tribe will begin using up two servings of food. When you reach seven tribe members, that serving size will go up by one, and the number of required servings will continue to increase by one with every seven cats. Like patrolling, you can send out five hunting patrols with six cats in them. For every two cats on patrol, you can obtain one piece of prey, meaning the max amount caught on one hunting patrol is three pieces of prey.
Your fresh-kill pile will initially consist of six types of prey; x2 worth one serving, x2 worth two servings, and x2 worth three servings. An example set would consist of mice, voles, rabbits, squirrels, fish, and birds - but this can all be personalized to fit your tribe’s location. Please remember to fill in your fresh-kill pile with the appropriate types of prey, so that we have a clear idea of what to give you!
If your tribe runs out of prey or if you refuse to feed them, you have three posts to restock your fresh-kill pile. If you haven’t secured enough prey until then, one of your tribe members will die of starvation. A tribe member will die in every post after until your food store is properly stocked again.
HEALING & HERBSUnlike a Clan, the traditional setup of a tribe doesn’t separate its leader from its medicine cat. This means that when you receive your founder you’ll also be given
five herbs of your choice to add onto your medicine store. Healers can go searching for herbs in every post, bringing back four in Spring, three in Summer, two in Autumn, and one in Winter. If their successor is brought along with them, then you’ll be able to bring back one additional herb each time. When a tribe member gets injured or sick, your mod will let you know what herbs you’ll need to treat them - their ailment automatically going away once the proper herbs are administered. If you don’t have the needed ones on hand, you have two moons to collect the correct ones before your patient gets worse. In that case, you’ll need stronger herbs, and if those aren’t gathered within two more moons, your tribe member will pass away.
Your tribe’s ancestors might be understanding if you need a certain herb right away! Alongside asking for new tribe mates, you can also ask to be given one herb of your choice provided you haven’t already used up your ancestral request.
MENTORS & TRAININGWhen a kitten becomes eight moons old, their healer must conduct a ceremony officially declaring them as a to-be. From then on, they’re assigned to a mentor that must teach them at least five skills before they can take on a final assessment, which will be an available action once all skills are learned and they’re fourteen moons or older. To-be’s can also begin contributing to the tribe outside of training; if they’ve learned the hunting skill, they can join their fellow tribemates in a hunting patrol. If they know fighting, then they can join in border patrols. However due to their lack of experience, to-be’s are more prone to injury and - spirits forbid - death.
There’s also work to be done inside the camp as to-be’s are expected to tend to the elder’s needs such as changing their bedding and searching their coats for ticks. Moss and mouse bile can be collected for such tasks. Sometimes, if a to-be has failed to learn a skill, they can be given a motivational boost by an elder that will help them succeed in their next training session with their mentor.
When their final assessment comes around, a to-be can choose to postpone it to go under additional training for four more moons to hone one skill out of the four they’ve already learned. For example, if they want to want to hone their hunting, then they have a chance for it to become mastered hunting. A mastered skill gives a boost to an adult member in the same way powers do to cats from events, except unlike a powered a cat, these skills are non-hereditary and cannot be passed down to future kits. Obtaining a mastered skill means a to-be needs to pass at least three out of four training sessions, otherwise they won’t gain the ability. Examples of such abilities are listed below with the standard skills learned in training, but if your to-be’s learn more personalized skills, please PM deimos for help in what a mastered skill could do for you:
HUNTINGTo-be’s that have mastered hunting can bring back one additional piece of prey worth three servings along with the rest of what the hunting patrol caught. Other skills that can be grouped with this benefit are fishing.
FIGHTINGTo-be’s that have mastered fighting can go to battle with little to no risk of injury or death, they can also heighten your tribe’s chance at winning battles.
STALKINGTo-be’s that have mastered stalking can excel in tracking down existing threats or objects of interest to the tribe with little to no risk of getting caught. Other skills that can be grouped with this benefit are tracking and stealth.
ENDURANCETo-be's that have mastered endurance can be sent out on multiple patrols per post with little to no risk of sickness or life-threatening injury.
AGING & DEATHTribe members cannot remain young and spry forever, as much as they’d wish it. In every moon (every post you complete), all of your cats need to be aged up by one moon. So if you have a cat aged 19 moons, they would be 20 in your next. Below is a list of the standard aging system used in CAT:
0 - 8 moons: Kitten.
8 - 14 moons: To-be, though some can be held back due to failed training sessions or if they chose to stay and attempt mastering a skill.
15 - 70 moons: Adult tribe members such as prey-hunters and guards - healer to-be’s can succeed their master as young as 20 moons.
71 - 96 moons: Older tribe members nearing the age of retirement, they can join the elder’s den now, but it isn’t a requirement.
97-120+ moons: Once a cat is around these ages they will need to retire to the elder’s den. 150 moons would mean an auto retirement, and 170 would be the age where a mod can roll for them to pass on due to natural causes. 180 moons means an auto death. If an elder has joined past that age, then their auto death occurs 25 moons after.
Death in CAT can happen in various ways: for example, a kit-parent could face complications in birth and either lose the lives of some of their kits, their own, or the whole family could pass. A cat outside of camp could fall to injury, and deadly diseases can creep up from any corner. To preserve the lives of some important cats, it’s advised that you mark them in a special way so that your mod knows not to target them in the event that they roll for a death. You can also write in deaths or injuries yourself without having a mod inflict them.
ALLIANCES & ENEMIESAlliances and enemies are formed through player coordination and communication between each other. While the fanclub is a great place to begin looking for allies and enemies, we also encourage you to join our official Discord server for a more engaging experience with other members! As allies, you have the ability to trade herbs and prey with each other, as well as offer additional forces of cats in the event of a large scale battle happening in your ally tribe. As enemies, you can perform raids to steal herbs or prey, and potentially kidnap a member from your enemy tribe that they’ll need to fight to win back. However, none of these can be done unless you and other involved players explicitly consent to them. In your action queue, you must link to a screenshot of proof or else your mod will not consider them to be valid actions.
GATHERINGSGatherings will be elaborated on at a future date.
MATES & KITSAs your tribe develops through writing, you may choose to have cats form romantic bonds with each other. Mateships can form between cats 20 moons or older, but unhealthy dynamics such as a relationship between an adult and a to-be are not allowed under any circumstances, unless both cats were to-be’s together and one happened to be promoted before the other.
To officiate a mateship, you must add that two of your cats have chosen to become mates in your action queue. If the pair is able to have a litter, you can also add that you would like your mod to perform a pregnancy roll in their reply for a chance for your cat to expect their own litter of kits! If the roll is successful, your tribe member will move to the nursery, where their litter will be due in two of your own posts’ time (two moons).
After a successful pregnancy roll, the parents are put on a cooldown that will need to run out before they can attempt to try for kits again. For cats who can carry kits, the cooldown is eight posts, for others, the cooldown is four.
TRIBE/CLAN RELATIONSTribe cats have the ability to try for kits with our partner game -
Create A Clan! However, these pairings cannot happen between a tribe and a Clan of your own, as that would create an unfair advantage that would break both of our rules. Kits born from these pairs cannot be traded between games unless it is only to their parents’ respective tribe or Clan. In the case that either group disbands, the kits will automatically go to their active parent’s group.
INTER-TRIBE RELATIONSInter-tribe relationships (commonly known as forbidden romances), are between a cat from your own tribe and a cat from another player’s. And like with tribe and Clan pairings, you can’t breed cats that belong in your first and second tribes. There are no ingame penalties for an inter-tribe relationship, but they do result in a lot of potential for character development for the cats involved and their tribe’s general stance towards them.
SEASONSThere are four seasons in CAT that change on the first Friday of every month - rotating from Spring to Winter. The seasons will directly affect the results of your tribe’s actions when your mod replies to it. For example, sickness and death are more prominent in the colder seasons, and hunting advantages occur in the warmer ones.
Next Season: Autumn, March 6th.
SPRINGKitting queens and their offspring have a significantly decreased chance of dying or being born with defects and the number of kits born in a litter could increase. Hunters will feel confident in their skills during this season as they begin bringing in more prey then they did in both Autumn and Winter. New tribemates will start showing up too, tempted by the thought of finding a home after so many cold moons alone.
SUMMERDuring this season, you’ll find that your tribe continues to be lucky in their hunting, patrolling, and nursery-related prospects. However, with most biomes experiencing the worst of the sun’s heat, exhaustion will quickly afflict your guards and hunters if they overexert themselves. Some overzealous rogue groups or brave predators may also pose a risk to your tribes, and because of these risks, new cats are a little less likely to see on patrols.
AUTUMNIn Autumn, your tribe may notice that prey is beginning to grow a little scarce and the herbs are starting to die due to the cold. Stocking in this season is vital as life will continue to get harder once Winter comes. Tribemates will also start visiting their healer a lot more often, as the chance of sickness starts to increase! Alongside your average sickness preventing herbs, a healer will also need to keep their eye out for kitting herbs as their kit-mothers will have a harder time giving birth.
WINTERWinter is by far is the hardest season for a tribe to endure as prey stays put in their dens and most herbs have withered and died. Many groups might need to send out larger hunting patrols in order to bring something back for the elders and kit-mothers, but patrols aren’t without risk. Deadlier diseases are far more common now than in any other season. Due to lack of food and exposure to the cold, tribe members can develop yellowcough and greencough in a flash. Healers will need to work fast to ensure that it doesn’t turn into blackcough and claim any lives. Kits and elders are especially fragile and will need mothers and caretakers alike to keep them warm and healthy until Spring arrives.
POST FORMATAfter your starter post, you will use the following format in every following post you make to keep track of your tribe; this is the standard skeleton, but you are allowed to code them in any way you like.
