This is a Species created and owned by ShadowWolf~.
He has given me special permission to take charge of the species,
bring them back to the site, and run the community as I please.
He is much too busy to run things himself or even come on the site,
but he may make special appearances if his schedule allows for it.
He still wanted his species to strive if people took interest, and I have
taken it upon myself to do just that for him and all who enjoy Prince Hounds!
[If anything needs to be directed to his attention, please do inform me;
I still continue to keep contact with him, so your questions and concerns can be answered.

ShadowWolf~ wrote:Prince Hounds are a species I created way back when I created my boy, Radgen.
They've always been a closed species only for myself, but lately people have been
showing great interest in wanting one of their own, so I decided to open them a
little and make them available for adoption.

ABOUT

ABOUT
Credit to ShadowWolf~ for bio entries.

What are Prince Hounds?

Prince Hounds are a canine species that emerged very slowly, but steadily.
They are usually found in areas of colder climate, but some have migrated to
warmer regions of the world. Prince Hounds are thought to be aggressive in
instinctive nature, but some reports speak otherwise. They are carnivores,
but will adapt to being omnivores only in dire situations. Their intelligence
peaks them above most, if not all, other canine species. Although most
Prince Hounds will develop their own personalities, they are usually always
protective beings, ill-tempered, and uninterested in surrendering to others.

ANATOMY

Prince Hounds' main visual feature is usually their excessive, spiked fur.
This fur will be seen growing from their head, down their neck and to their
elbows. It will also be seen sprouting from the base of the tail and outward.
On older Prince Hounds, this fur can also be seen growing from the snout
and chin, behind the paws, or even from the chest and underbelly.
The spiked fur is always the same colour, no matter what area it is on the body, unless
they have the extremely rare mutated gene that allows the fur to match the design
or markings, or allows the fur to be two or more colours, no matter what area of the body.
The next more noticeable feature of a Prince Hound is the usually
massive build most have. This build is mostly in the front of the
canine and will rarely be seen in the back. Prince Hounds require
this muscle build in order to survive
, whether it be for hunting or
warding off predators or other competition
. Due to the necessary
muscle structure, Prince Hounds typically have short hair from the
head to the chest, including their front legs
, and have longer hair
on the rest of the body
, but in some cases, some may have only short hair.
The paws of a Prince Hound are usually large in size, much larger than
a dog's, or even a wolf's average paw size
. They have five toes, including
a dew claw, on the front paws, and four toes on the back paws
. Claws are
always visible
and can or will usually range in size based on the paw itself.
The ears of a Prince Hound are similar to that of a bat's ears. The ears are
long, compared to expected size, and are always pointed, never floppy.
The eyes of a Prince Hound are ones you'd normally find on any canine.
The only difference with the eyes in comparison to a normal canine's eyes
is the slit pupils. No other pupil shape has ever been seen on a Prince Hound.

BREEDING

-

GENDER DIFFERENCE

In Prince Hound existence, there is believed to be a huge difference in gender numbers.
The ratio is believed to be or is close to 10:1. That being 10 Males for every 1 Female. The cause
of this difference is unknown, though some believe that the answers lie within the gene coding,
while others believe it has to do with sociality, where the Males generally are more aggressive
and are more likely to attack anything, of any gender, that crosses their territory. With this, it
is believed that Males have a larger build in comparison with females, giving them the necessary
strength to take down anything they see as a threat or opponent, which may include their own kind.

SOCIALITY

It is unsure as to whether Prince Hounds strive better while traveling in groups,
or on their own. Many Adult Prince Hounds are seen alone and isolated from
another of their kind, but other adults have been seen traveling in groups,
sometimes while younger Hounds are present. With this, it is believed a growing
family
of Prince Hounds will travel together and separate as the young ones grow
into adults
. Although this is widely believed, this is not proven for every case.
When it comes to other canine species, Prince Hounds are generally curious
in interaction. They will generally take role as the Alpha among other canines,
and they'll investigate before coming around. When it comes to non-canine
species, Prince Hounds will usually get aggressive and extremely territorial. But
when it comes to other Prince Hounds, they typically are just neutral around them, that
is, unless one is invading another's territory or one is hostile toward the other Prince Hound.

DISEASES/CONDITIONS/MUTATIONS

Postby GAIRENTH » Sat Jan 13, 2018 10:47 am

DISEASES/CONDITIONS/MUTATIONS
Credit to ShadowWolf~ for Disease and Mutation Bio Entries.

Prince Hounds are not immune to disease, medical conditions, or even mutations.
I decided to exclude this from the "About" Post seeing as they're important and should not be skipped.

BLINDNESS
Blindness is extremely common among Prince Hounds due to some actions
owners will do, or even the Hounds will do to themselves. The result of
going blind is common among Prince Hounds when the excess, spiked fur
on the head and neck are cut. There are many nerve strands spreading
throughout the spiked fur on Prince Hounds. When the fur is cut, the nerve
strands are cut too. These nerves are complexly connected to the sight portion
of the Hound's nerves, and when tampered with, it can have devastating results.
Prince Hounds have a 90% Positive chance of going blind when their fur is cut.

NO BUILD/MISSING MUSCLE MASS
Although Prince Hounds usually have a large build and a lot of muscle mass,
some of the Hounds can be born in a state that leaves them scrawny, skinny, and
unfit for survival in the wild. The unfit Hound will usually pass within a few months
after being born. The only way to avoid such fate would be for the pup to receive
proper treatment and care from an owner or caretaker. Although most adult Hounds
will stick by their offspring's side until adulthood, it has been observed that if the
pup is unfit to survive, it will be abandoned for benefit of the parents' survival.
Prince Hounds have a 0.005(Percent) Positive Chance of being born unfit.
(Half of a 1% Chance.)

TAILS
Prince Hounds will typically have a long, bushy tail. This is the dominant gene
for the species in regard to their tails. But some have been spotted with tails that
don't quite look right. Some have been recorded having medium length, skinny tails.
Others have been seen to have small bobs, or even no tails at all. Because this is a
rare sighting, it is unknown if these tails are a result of a gene mutation, disease,
or possible a life event they experienced. Those with these tails are said to still have
the excess, spiked fur growing from the base of where the tail should be or where it is.
Prince Hounds are said to have less than a 3% Positive chance of having a different tail.

FUR MUTATION
The Fur mutation of Prince Hounds is only effective to the excess, spiked fur that grows
from certain areas of its body. This mutation makes the fur multi-coloured, which is not
commonly found on Prince Hounds.
Prince Hounds have a 5% Positive chance of having this specific fur Mutation.

Other fur mutations have now been discovered for these canine beasts. These mutations included factors such as excessive fur length, strength, style, and amount.

Other Diseases, Conditions, Mutations, etc. will be listed in the future when they are observed.

FAQ

Postby GAIRENTH » Sat Jan 13, 2018 10:48 am

Please check here before asking questions!
If you have a question that you can't find the answer to here, or on any of the other posts, feel free to contact me via PM or directly on this thread.

--

Why "Prince Hounds"/Where does the name come from?
-
ShadowWolf~ wrote:The name Prince Hounds came from a nickname I've given Radgen, the very
first Prince Hound. I usually call him Prince, and Hound was just a name for a canine.
So "Prince Hound."

--

How can I adopt a Prince Hound?

-
To adopt a Prince Hound, you first should look for one that is open. Open adoptable
Prince Hounds can be found on the first Page underneath the Cover. Once you've found
an available Prince Hound, you're going to want to look on the first post underneath it.
There, the artist will put requirements or options you can complete in order to win the
Prince Hound. These requirements can be simple as a naming contest or even complex
as writing a back story and providing art. Some might just be based on luck, where the
winner will chosen through a raffle. In special cases, you might even be able to buy or bid on a Prince Hound.
Be sure to read all of what the Artist asks before posting!

--

Can I be an artist/Is there an artist Competition I can join?
-
Unfortunately, no.
At this time, there is no need for another artist for the species.
If you're truly interested though, when one is in need, an announcement will be made
on the first post as well as on the Fanclub's Announcement post about recruiting.
You'll have to fill out an application and provide both personal art examples as well
as some design examples, so an idea of who'd make a great fit for the species can be made.

--

More to be added when necessary!
