any simple remedies? We tried feet bathing in oils and things.
I hate seeing her in pain. But I was also wondering, I'm a vegan that raises chickens and I was wondering if anyone else here raises chickens ( for fun or if their parents farm the eggs\meat) that are also against meat and animal products ? Any poultry raising vegetarians or vegans?
Those are a nightmare to get rid of.
What's worked best for me is to use a dog or cat spot on treatment on the bird. This poisons the blood which is what the mites eat and will kill them from the inside out, and usually spot on treatments last 30 days so they cover the lifespan of the mite and eggs. Those scaly mites, once they get that bad, are SO insanely stubborn. I had a hen lose a toe once due to those things. I quit messing around after that.
The scales will remain raised until the chicken molts, and they will be replaced with new scales then. Don't eat the eggs until the medication is well out of the body, you can scramble them back to the chickens if you want to, or throw them away. But its worth it for the health of the bird in my opinion.
