when your fast asleep

She fell asleep quickly after a hard day. She was out cold as soon as her head hit the pillow.

She was now in a dream, but she wouldn't know this until she awoke.

She was in a beautiful meadow, filled with all types of colourful flowers. The sun was shining, giving off the perfect amount of heat and warmth. There were trees around, providing shade if it got to hot. A small river could be seen in the distance, with pure, clean water flowing through it. This was paradise.

She saw someone she hadn't seen in a while. Her best friend. Uhane walked over to meet her.

"Tag, your it!" Uhane screamed in a childish voice. They ran around, playing tag like young kits again. After they got tired, Uhane looked over to the river. She saw her mom and dad, standing by it, smiling at her. She smiled back, and heard barking behind her. She turned around to see her dog, Toto, running around, wagging his stubby tail.

Uhane played fetch with him for a bit, and then felt something odd. She felt like she needed to be somewhere important. She didn't want to leave, but whatever it was felt urgent. She said goodbye, and walked off into the forest near the meadow. Her vision started getting fuzzy.

Uhane woke up in her bed and looked around. No meadow, no river, no forest and no flowers. She started crying, sobbing. She wanted that dream to be real so bad.

Her best friend had moved away months ago and completely replaced Uhane. She hasn't talked to her in months. Her parents had gotten divorced. Whenever Uhane was with her mom, she said nasty things about her father and vice versa. Her dog, Toto, was sent away after Uhane got into a fight with her mom. She sent him to the SPCA, and Uhane never saw him again. She didn't live in a beautiful meadow. She lives in a dirty, grimy city with no fresh air for miles.

Uhane had this dream frequently. It was to mask how pathetic and horrible her present life is, and replace it with her ideal world. Where everything is perfect.

professional author. as a kit, she would spend hours at the
library, reading book after book after book, transporting her-
self into another world and forgetting about all her troubles.

Pasithea opened her eyes and sat straight up.
She was slightly panting as she looked around, noticing
that she was back in her reoccurring dream. Her
breathing soon slowed, and she tossed her blankets off
of her and stood from the bed. These dreams were
always so vivid... it was like she was actually there.
Taking a look around at the familiar room, she gave a soft
sigh as she studied the bindings of the books that lined
both sides of her room. The floor was cold and polished,
like it always was. She was wearing a purple nightgown,
different from the one she usually wore when she was here.
Walking over to one of the large bookshelves, her fingers
danced along the different heights of them before she
yanked one forward, letting it go as the bookshelf began to
open. She stepped in, looking at all of the dresses that
adorned the walls. Pasithea let her fingers glide across
each one, whistling softly as she did so. She stopped at a
light blue one, pulling it from the wall. She walked to a
large mirror in the back of the room, pressing the dress
against her before deciding this was the one. Quickly
changing, she left the secret room and pulled the book
once more. Leaving her room, she closed the door behind
her and was greeted by a somewhat short man by the name
of Thomas. She knew him quite well at this point-he was
her servant who made sure everything was alright for her.
Pasithea gave a smile in return, and the two began to walk
down to the dining hall. Thomas told her about the food they
had prepared for her, and asked what she was planning on
doing that day. Her reply was that she was just going to walk
around and see how everyone was doing, and Thomas said
he'd go with her. It was almost like Thomas knew that she
wasn't here all the time, seeing as how he was always glad to
show her around the castle, lke she had forgotten where
everything was. The dining hall was very large, a table right in
the middle of it. Pasithea had a nice chat with the people there
at the table, and had a quite delicious breakfast. Once she was
finished, Thomas followed as she began to walk around the
castle. When they reached the main room for the castle, she
took a step out the humongous front doors and was met by a
cold wind. Thomas asked if she was alright, and she nodded.
She knew she didn't have much time left here anyway. Hugging
herself, she looked up. The sky was a deep purple with hints
of pink, and you could see other planets far away. Just as she
turned to speak with Thomas, she woke in real life.
Sitting up, she took a look around her dull room and sighed.
This was no room for a princess.
