Soul Eater Character Ages?

Could anyone tell me/help me figure out how old the characters in the Soul Eater anime are? Because I thought it would have been mentioned in the manga, but every site I go on says different ages for everyone but Maka and Black Star, who are always listed as 13. I was really surprised at this, though, because somewhere it is said that meisters don't start at the academy until they are 13, meaning that Maka almost managed to make Soul a death scythe in less than a year, even quicker than Justin who managed to do so at 14 and was the youngest ever...
So if anyone could offer any more info on this, even the characters I didn't mention, I'd be grateful XD
