How did she get her scars? Living in the jungle is no easy task. Over the years, you're sure to get a scar or two. Zera and her herd had settled down for the night. They hid in a small clearing beneath the thick canopy of trees. Being one of the younger equines and therefore having more energy than the older, she was tasked to guard the camp along with two stallions while the rest bedded down. She posted herself on top of a boulder jutting out of the ground so that she could see over the logs and underbrush that was scatter across the jungle floor. What she didn't notice, was the silent jaguar prowling above her in the trees. The big cat was smart. It waited until the herd had fallen asleep before it made it's move. Gathering it's haunches, the jaguar pounced from it's cover and onto the young mare on watch below, aiming for her neck. Zera heard the slight hiss of wind was the creature descend upon her and in her panic, she slipped off the boulder. The movement of the mare caused the predator to miss it's mark, instead slashing her across the left side of her face. Zera whinnied in fright, alerting her herd to the presence of the jaguar. The jungle cat barely had a moment to regain it's bearings before the other stallions on guard are upon it, chasing it away. The young mare felt ashamed that she had been so oblivious to the threat that she had been meant to protect the herd from. In her shame, she denied any treatment to her wounds and allowed the two slashes to scar, a permanent marking of her failure to protect her family.
