A shadow was standing on the hill, over shadowing the village. The full moon was out. Unbeknownst to the village below the shadow was creeping into the village, and it was going to change the village forever. Nothing would be the same again, if they all lived though it.
Daylight sent all the shadows of the village running for sight. The village hummed to live as they did everyday nothing was new. The village itself gave thanks to traveling merchants trading goods as they traveled to the big cities much further down the road. These trades allowed the villagers to get by without any special skills.
The village was a normal trading village, with the only cobble road going though the center of town, and out of sight. Many travelers came though, going towards the big cities, just 10 miles away.
Villagers had seen heavy rain the last couple days, which caused an unforeseen event that would seal their doom. Just as noon hit and the rain started pouring again, the two village entrances were suddenly overlaid with mud. A mudslide that was the worst the villagers had seen in their lives.
Hurriedly, the men of the village ran to the front entrance with shovels, moving mud as fast as moles, to no avail. The mud was as tall as the surrounding hills (which were more like mountains, except covered in grass bottom to middle, and toward the tops hard dirt and rock.) The men dug for a few hours, rain impeding any progress.
The village was trapped, for who knew how long. Seeing as nothing could be done, the village returned to a façade of normal. Unease was heavy upon the village, as they would not last the two months it would take for the rainy season to end. They had needed not worry about perishing though, as they would be soon dying one by one.
The owner of the tavern, ay4u, was as worried as most. Yet, he wasn’t scared or nervous, maybe he knew of his fate. The night of the mudslide, ay4u closed up the tavern, and walked to his home, boots clicking on the cobble. He made it home for the last time, and was greeted by his companion, and best friend, Kat the Cat.
The white feline rubbed his legs with her scent as he came in the door, renewing her marking that he was her’s. He pulled out her dish of milk, and made himself dinner. It was a quiet night, nothing yet out of place.
Kat finished her dinner, meowed goodnight, and went to her “bed”. ay4u got out his journal to write in the days events as normal. His last entry is as follows:
Today, a great mudslide covered the entrances to the village. None can get in or out now, and I’m not sure if we’ll last. I have plans to shovel the mud and dirt on the days it doesn’t rain, and I hope the others do as well.
Besides that, I saw the yellow eyes outside my window again, second night in a row. I’m really wondering what animal it could be. It’s pupils faint and slit. I’m thinking a wildcat, mostly domestic size. I found some paw prints with claws circling the house. I think it’s attracted to Kat. Right now she is sleeping on my pillow, curled up into a little ball. The lamp light is not very bright.
I have a fire in the hearth, since the night is cold from rain. Winter is coming, if we live to see it, my favorite season. I love playing in the snow with Kat, and I hope I can again. I love her to pieces. I’m going to check the door, and make sure it is locked. Night.
Morning came slowly to village, as clouds covered the sky. The villagers were summoned to the home of the tavern owner by the high-pitched cries of a small feline. They gathered at the door, no one wanting to enter for the smell of iron thick about the house.
Aerrow [Dullahan] arrived last. Without hesitation he quickly walked open to the front door, and pulled out his knife. With a quick fluid motion, he cut thorough the door lock (which was a only a piece of wood, since ay4u never locked the metal lock) and pushed open the door.
A ghastly smell hit the group, all except Aerrow cringing instantly. ay4u was strewn across the floor, blood everywhere. His blue-gray eyes and mouth lay open. It was plain to see that his tongue was cut out, to silence his screams. His body seemed like a cruel dissection, except that none of his organs were visible, as none remained.
ay4u had been toyed with by the intelligent werewolf. Each of his toes, and each of his fingers were removed, leaving jagged marks upon his remaining flesh. The remains of his hands and feet showed the white, bloody bones pulled a ways out by the removal of his digits.
Kat was yowling now, in a scratchy tone, her voice overused, tears running from her green eyes. Her tail was bristled, and her posture expressing her pain. She communicated in her telepathic way, I will get whoever did this. I WILL GET THEM! she mourned.
_ilsandra_’s ears were back, and her tail was around her. She had an air of sadness cloaked around her as she looked at ay4u’s remains. If someone listened closely, they might have heard her whimpering.
The Maned Wolf gained some sense, and grabbed Kat with her paws, and tired to pull Kat off ay4u. Kat held on, still distraught and crying. Aerrow was beside Kat, giving her a comforting pet, as the pile of ay4u’s digits caught his eye.
Slowly he walked over to it, as if it were a wild creature, and might get away. He sat down, and ran his fingers though the pile. He picked out an index finger, and using his knife, made a hole that went all the way though.
He proceeded to pick out various fingers, and a toe or two, to made a single hole though ‘them. He picked out a string of sorts out of his back pocket, and strung them. He put on his weird necklace, and grinned. Maybe he thought that soon enough he would have a bone necklace.
Ay4u’s torso was unharmed except the fresh claw marks from Kat, and the jagged tear separating his upper body from his lower, guts not visible, as they were gone only remains of them were nest to the claw marks inside. This werewolf was picky since it did not eat anything but the organs. The only show of it’s intelligence was the message on the wall, written in ay4u’s blood:
This one was tasty. I'm sure the rest of you will be as well. No one will leave this village alive.
