RIVERSIDE RESCUE - - - - - - - - -

welcome to riverside rescue, and as the title suggests, it is where second chances are made for our animal friends. based in the state of oregon, among an open field surrounded by hills with a few trees dotted around, is where the rescue sits. of course, what would a riverside rescue be without a river. snaking through the land is a small river, surrounded by plants and full of life. now, from the outside the rescue doesn't look to be much, just a simple farmhouse. however, as one steps foot inside the rescue they will be greeted by multicolored walls, a lovely yellow and pale blue to be exact, with a waiting area and a reception. pictures of animals adorn the walls, as well as decals of paw prints and animal silhouettes. there are plants that sit in the corners and in the windowsills. past reception to the right are where the animals are kept. there are glass viewing areas to see into the cat and kitten pens, which are large rooms full of toys, scratching posts, cat trees, and more for the cats to enjoy each day. these rooms can be entered so visitors and adopters can meet and play with the friendly felines! similarly is an area where the rabbits are kept. much like the cats they have play rooms with all their bunny needs from chew toys, tunnels, hutches, and more! for the cats, kittens, and rabbits there are kennel areas where the animals are mainly held. they line the walls but are not the kennels usually found in most shelters or rescues. these kennels are larger than usual, on two sides are glass so visitors can see in from one side and the workers can access the kennels from the other side. there is enough room for multiple animals to fit in each kennel, but two is the maximum as we wouldn't want to overcrowd each kennel. when it comes to the birds we rescue they also have an area to themselves. the area where the birds are held have similar kennels to that of the cats and rabbits, where they can be viewed from two sides. depending on the size of the bird there are large and medium sized kennels that have all the toys, perches, and space needed. the upper levels of the facility are for storage and acclimation and examination for the animals. outside there are outdoor pens for all the animals to enjoy, each large and spacious and holding all that is needed for the animals. the birds get more freedom to fly about as well. there is a duck pond, a run for chickens, and other outdoor pens for species likes peafowls.

"i would love to open up this rescue to help the animals who are in need of the love and care they may so desperately need. i would be able to offer them all that they would need and more, as well as help them find those forever homes that every animal should have. it's always been something of a dream of mine to help animals one way or another, and i believe that by opening this rescue i'll be able to do just that. it'd be a great opportunity, not just for animals to find homes, but for the people as well to learn about and discover the pet that suits them best. we'll have volunteer programs for children and teens as well. i think the rescue will be beneficial in many ways, which is why i want to open it."

➳ Northriver Animal Sanctuary stands on the banks of a lake in Alberta, Canada. Started by Ainsley Caro in 1987, the Sanctuary had to temporarily close down, as the second owner caused the group to go bankrupt. Now, Ainsley's grandson, Miles, is starting the Sanctuary back up. As of now, the Sanctuary is only accepting rabbits, dogs, and horses, as the cat canopy and reptile rooms were taken down.

➳ Northriver Animal Sanctuary's pride and joy is the unofficial animal show, where all well-tempered animals show off for the audience. The show is a wonderful time where plenty of animals are adopted, and others drop off animals they are no longer able to care for with a sad smile on their faces.

➳ The main building holds the offices, adoption rooms, playrooms, and the rabbit's meadow, along with an attached greenhouse where vegetables and fruits are grown for the animals. The main room is painted a pleasing light grey & light blue, with clean grey couches lining the walls. The reception desk sits the middle of the rooms, with a matching grey staircase behind it, and a hallway on each side. The offices are on the second floor and are quite cozy, painted light grey and green, so visitors can feel comfortable while adopting their new pet. The playrooms are filled with toys and dog beds, so the residents of the Sanctuary can interact with potential owners. The rabbit meadow is a group of two large rooms lined with tall wooden walls, which make up the rabbit pens. Each pen is large enough to house up to three large adult rabbits or a group of smaller adults (all groups are known to get along before being placed together). The greenhouse is available to the public, but only so they can see how the food is being grown. The Sanctuary uses an efficient aquaponics system, which cycles into a small koi pond.

➳ The side buildings, only a minute's walk from the main building, hold all of the dogs in the Sanctuary's care. There are 3 buildings, one for nursing mothers and puppies, one for the smaller dog breeds, and one for the larger dog breeds. The Nursery, where puppies and nursing mothers are kept, is kept warm throughout the year, is equipped with wooden pens filled with soft blankets, food and water for the mother, and various toys or treats for the puppies depending on age. The buildings for the older dogs have larger pens, where dogs of the same size and temperament are kept in roomy pens, with a glass wall facing the hallway, and a wooden wall separating the rooms. Each room has beds, bunches of toys, fresh water provided at all times, and a meal at 8 am & 6 pm, with treats at noon.

➳ The horses are kept in the barns behind the main buildings, a 5-minute walk from the parking lot. There is a roomy stall for each horse, and a few larger stalls for mares and their foals.

➳ The dogs and horses are walked every day, and the rabbits will alternate free roam times in specific rooms.

➳ All in all, Northriver Animal Sanctuary is definitely a place to consider when looking for your new fur friend!
