One day, Death was out hunting and discovered a kit being attacked by a badger. She saved the kit and took him back to her camp. He lived with her group for the next few moons, until he was about warrior age. She trained him herself, showing him how to hunt, fight, and defend himself better than most Clan mentors--but the main reason I say that is because she taught him some deadly, "illegal" moves like the killing bite. By the time he was at that age, Death had basically retired. She was no longer interested in invading the Clans and killing leaders; one of her best friends was dead, and Death didn't have any real reason to stir up drama. (She did steal/ruin all the catnip in the leaf-bare that Nettlestar died. She essentially caused his death. She didn't actually want any blood on her claws, any cats hunting her down--she was tired of that life. But she did want to make sure that Hurricane's killer had been brought to justice.) Death would no longer kill or attack anyone who entered her territory if it wasn't necessary. She might offer to help if they needed it, but if they were a rogue looking for trouble, she'd send them off with a scar or two. Anyway, Spice was out hunting alone one day. It was becoming leaf-bare, so he wanted to make Death proud by bringing back some prey. Unknowingly, he stepped across the FlameClan border while stalking a pheasant. He wasn't the only cat after it, though--as he pounced, so did a FlameClan apprentice. Turns out she had a patrol with her. He wasn't looking for a fight, so he apologized for crossing the border and said he'd leave, but the patrol didn't allow him to. They knew by his scent that he was with Death, so they took him back to their camp to be held prisoner. One of his guards kind of liked him (you know, thought he was attractive) so she asked him why he chose to follow Death. (The guard's name was Briarmist.) He explained that she had saved him from a badger, and under her breath, the guard muttered "probably led the thing to you in the first place..". When asked, she just said that she had never known Death to be like that. Spice asked what she meant, and she explained all that Death had did to the Clans. Death killed Whitestar, invaded all three Clans multiple times, stole prey and kits, attacked border patrols and lone cats, you name it. Spice was horrified, as he'd never seen or heard Death doing any of these things. He thought that she had been lying to him all along, and thought that her "murderous tendencies" were why she had taught him all those fatal moves. Of course, as mentioned earlier, she stopped doing all that. It had actually been moons since she attacked FlameClan before ruining the catnip. She had essentially become a peaceful cat. But Spice didn't realize this. Briarmist could tell that he was clearly shocked--he explained what was going through his mind. She knew that her Clanmates wouldn't belive him, but she did. So instead of discussing it with Crowstar, she suggested that Spice go back to Death's group and kill her. Spice didn't want to do that--after all, she did save his life. It was ironic, but if it hadn't been for Death, he wouldn't be alive. He knew that he couldn't let such a "terrible cat" go on living, though, so he reluctantly agreed. Briarmist said she'd pretend to have fallen asleep so he could escape. He didn't want her to get in trouble, but she insisted that she could easily patch things up with her Clanmates, since she was Crowstar's sister. So Spice snuck out during the night and ran back to Death's camp. The group had diminished in size since Death's killer days, but there were still enough cats that it would be a death trap to try and kill her in her camp. So he disguised his scent, hid in a tree nearby, and...waited. He waited until the next day, when Death got up early to go hunting. When she got near his tree, he confronted her and asked about the things Briarmist said. She explained that those days were over, but Spice thought she was lying, just trying to make herself seem innocent and keep his trust. He could see that she was becoming weak, as she was actually really old, and leaf-bare was pretty much upon them. So, as might be expected..he killed her. He didn't exactly want to, but he truly believed that he was doing the Clans, and Briarmist, a favor. He liked FlameClan's way of life more than Death's. He patiently waited at their border until a patrol discovered him. They were angry and asked what he was doing back in their territory; he explained the situation. They didn't believe him when he said that he had killed Death, so he led them to her body after assuring them that it wasn't a trap. He said that he wanted to join the Clan, and they were kind of shocked/angry. They said they'd take him to Crowstar, but it was really unlikely that he'd be allowed in. When they got to the camp, Briarmist was really happy to see him--he could see it in her eyes--but she didn't let it show that much. She was really the only reason that he was able to join. She convinced Crowstar to give him a chance--after all, he had killed Death and "saved the Clan from a lot of trouble". That fact made him a bit of a hero. So he joined the Clan, but was required to have a guard at all times until he really proved that he didn't have any bad intentions. Of course, some cats still didn't trust him--it actually took two moons and a battle between SnowClan and FlameClan for Crowstar to fully accept him. Eventually, as you might expect, he had a kit with Briarmist. He was allowed to keep his name as a prefix; his warrior name was Spicethorn. It is a really odd name, but kind of quirky. I like it.
||Wow, did not realize that was so long. I made it smaller to avoid making people scroll through a bunch.||
