Just wondered--but a moose IS a Eurasian elk right? Just called different things. " The moose (North America) or elk (Eurasia), "Alces alces", is the largest extant species in the deer family.

Moose is the largest of all deer and is easily identified from other deer. Elk is smaller and more slender, without the bulbous nose. But there is another view that Moose and Elk are same. The Eurasian Elk is just a subspecies of the moose.

Alces Alces Alces is the biological name for Eurasian Elk, the subspecies of the Moose.
