Froststripe woke up and stretched. She felt, okay. She was sure the murderer was exiled, but most of her friends had been murdered. She left the warriors den and picked up a scent of blood. She started to panic, trying to tell herself it was mouse blood. She looked around and gasped. "Badgerstorm!" She rushed over to the medicine cats body. She nuzzled him, but his body was cold. She felt grief and anger. She lay down next to him, grieving.

Emberflight awoke to the all-too-familiar scent of blood. "No... Not again!" Emberflight ran out of the den, his fur unkempt as he fell by Badgerstorm's side. He buried his nose in his friend's pelt, licking it and whispering mourning words. Emberflight was filled with sorrow as he looked up at Froststripe, his tired eyes showing pain and grief well beyond his years. "What now?" He whispered hoarsely.

Flickpaw woke up and looked out the entrance to the apprentice den. Seeing Emberflight and Froststripe gathered near what appeared to be a body, Flickpaw ran out to join them. She couldn't believe her eyes. Badgerstorm was dead. Their medicine cat, gone. Not only was Badgerstorm an amazing cat and friend, but he was also their last source of leadership. Now the clan was surely doomed. "Emberflight," Flickpaw asked. "What's going to happen to us?"

Emberflight looked at the apprentice, at a loss for words. Finally he spoke, trying to mask the fear in his voice. "I... I don't know. I guess we just have to rebuild... We have to try to save our clan. We'll find the treacherous cat who's doing all of this, and we'll make them pay for all they've done." Emberflight's voice had grown solemn with determination fueled by grief. "Together, we can survive."
