Shadowshade squeaked in fright as he heard his name being spoken. "What - Why me?" he stammered, though probably nobody could hear him. He scanned the crowd to find the speaker - and spotted a small white dragon. He trembled - why a dragon? Didn't they... breath fire? He shivered - then glanced over to where Dark, a pup, and a small horse. They seemed to be talking with Dark... Wouldn't a killer keep himself hidden not to reveal any answers? He tried to listen in on their conversation about Dark - "What kind of killer would purposefully go out with a scythe and a cloak when everybody else knows there's a killer around?" "Well, my scythe was a gift my parents gave me, before they died in a plane crash." Shadowshade shivered - Dark's parents died.... but could it be just a cover to what he was really hiding? But now, after hearing the three talk about Dark.... It seemed he wasn't that bad, at least.... Shadowshade realized he was nibbling his hoodie again - he quietly stopped then glanced over to the three animals again. Dark would probably hate him for jumping to conclusions.... and that little white dragon probably hated him already - wasn't that why she chose him? Maybe, if he changed his vote, Dark wouldn't hate him... But someone else would.
This is so confusing! he thought, then decided to be brave, like his parents said... would have said. He secretly felt empathic for Dark - Shadowshade's parents had abandoned him because he couldn't grow up to be the dog they wanted to have.... At least the mayor took him in. He wasn't really sure why everyone seemed to hate the mayor - he gave them a place to live, so what? If Shdaowshade had to 'rule' the town, then he'd probably be annoyed, too. Just not hating the mayor was a good enough payment for being taken in? Shadowshade couldn't really bring himself to hate - anyone. Even the killers should have a good reason for killing... Right?
Nobody just goes out to a village and kills everyone there for something they enjoy.... But why couldn't the killers just... not be killers and do something relaxing, like something peaceful... Yoga, perhaps? Or sit at home with a nice cup of tea, and maybe have a meal with a pretty dog... like Lightbreeze? His head jerked up as Lightbreeze penetrated his thoughts. He looked around wildly and spotted her - was she staring at him? He quickly turned away from her so the slightly ragged side of his hoodie didn't show. Trying to pretend he wasn't staring, he decided to be brave, for once, and walked towards the three animals. "Hi?" he said quietly, hoping they wouldn't chase him away for voting for Dark.... But if he changed his vote, then what would happen? He shuddered a little then realized he was standing near them - he quickly tried to act as if nothing happened.
