I cannot imagine how you could begin laughing.
The score paired with the acting made it practically impossible for me to find the scene amusing in any way, shape, or form.
I can understand being disappointed in the film as a whole, but in that scene?
That is a rather odd opinion my friend.

The movie was a special-effected remake of Wrath of Khan.
Hence why it's considered a reboot. It will never be able to beat the original yo.
The acting was well-suited for a modern adaptation, but that is just my opinion.
[And yes he does come back to life.]

They played up the dramatics in the scene. In the Reboot AU, they don't even know each other that well. Heck, they might hate each other a little. Everything that happened before that scene is under the impression that they are not friends.
They tried too hard to have it mirror "Wrath of Khan."
