It was a day of celebration, yes, as four apprentices were to become warriors while three kits were to become apprentices. And yet there was a feeling of sadness that permeated the camp. As she watched from the Speaker's Tree, Honeystar remembered with a heavy heart the day that Alderclaw had stumbled onto Forestclan territory after his former clan had dissolved. The day that Birchnose and Alderclaw had come back into camp, smirks on their muzzles. The day that Dustleaf announced that Birchnose was pregnant. The day that Alderclaw slipped into the River and had been lost to the clan. The day that Birchnose had been murdered. By Oa--no, by the killer. He would forevermore be nameless, Honeystar reminded herself. She would not utter nor think of his name. She turned her thoughts back to the kits. Why was it that the youth of the clan was so affected by this? Why did they have to be punished for something they didn't do?

"Starclan, please answer me," Honeystar whispered with a brief glance up at the sky. But there was none. And now the entire clan had gathered, as Applenose and Honeystar had ensured. And there was no reason to delay the ceremony. No reason at all.

"We have gathered beneath the Speaker's Tree," said Honeystar loudly with the slight rasp in her voice that she had ever since she lost a life to the killer. Few in the clan knew just how fragile their leader truly was and it was best to keep it that way. "In order to celebrate the coming-of-age for three separate litters. Will Carppaw, Silverpaw, Harepaw, and Orchidpaw please join Applenose at the base?" Murmurs of excitement spread around the camp as the four apprentices joined the deputy at the base of the Tree. Who would get what suffix, some wondered. Others preferred to wait. "From now on, you shall be known as Carpfang, Hareclaw, Orchidwhisker, and Silverstorm. Carpfang, Starclan honors your perseverance and dedication. Hareclaw, Starclan honors your kindness and independence. Orchidwhisker, Starclan honors your intelligence and internal strength. And lastly--but never least--Silverstorm, Starclan honors your energy and enterprise." The murmurs grew to shouts as the clan called out the new warriors' names. After a few heartbeats. Honeystar waved her tail and the clan calmed down. "But that is not all. Will Blizzardkit, Cloudkit, and Icekit please joined Applenose at the base?"

Mila, who had cleaned up her kits with the help of Isidora, gave her sons a nudge. Though they were large for kits, the three were nervous and would have hung back if not for the looks of encouragement they received from their family. Once they stood near Applenose and the new warriors, Honeystar continued.

"From now on, these cats will be kits no longer; they will be apprentices by the name of Blizzardpaw, Cloudpaw, and Icepaw. I would also like to call up the following warriors: Gannetstorm, Brightfang, and Kestrelclaw." There were a few cheers, mostly from their friends and parents, as each cat was named. "Gannetstorm; you will become mentor to Icepaw. Kestrelclaw; you will become mentor to Blizzardpaw. Finally, Brightfang; you will become mentor to Cloudpaw. I expect you to pass on your knowledge and wisdom to your apprentices." Chanting rose up once again, this time calling the names of the new apprentices. This time, the chanting and cheering was so loud that Honeystar had to yowl over the hubbub. "This ends the meeting! Our new warriors will participate in a patrol today and guard the camp at night. Our new apprentices will begin training with their mentors immediately. Please go about your usual duties; Applenose will tell you the distribution of the day's patrols." With that, Honeystar made her way down the Speaker's Tree, more carefully now than she had once done so many seasons ago, and padded into her den where she curled up and fell asleep.

"I thought it would be a good idea to stand guard for a bit," said Applenose to Palefur. Swancloud seemed to be off in his own world as he stared into the distance. "Be among you warriors for a bit."

Palefur laughed softly. "You're doing well," he said. "Whe- If Honeystar has to step down, the clan will be cared for. I know it." What was left unspoken was Honeystar's age and general frailness; she would be stepping down sooner than later. Or maybe she would die, an uncomfortable thought.

"Thank you," responded Applenose humbly, betraying none of his doubts and fears.

The newleaf day was peaceful. Most of the clan was out and about, and only Mottleflower and Scorchpelt slept. The two toms were curled up in their nests, safe and quiet after Fawnfur's yowl that had alerted Dustleaf and Larkpaw to the imminent birthing. Bitternfoot and Daffodiltuft were stretched out in the sun, talking animatedly about the coming kits. Bitternfoot was betting that Gulltail would have hairless kits, while Daffodiltuft disagreed.

"You see, if Gulltail is hairless, then wouldn't her kits be, too?"

"Not necessarily," Daffodiltuft retorted. "Maybe it was just an accident and the kits will have fur."

Bitternfoot's tail twitched. "But--"

"And just because someone looks one way doesn't mean all the kits will look the same. How many tortoiseshells have ginger or black kits? How many no-patterns have patterned kits?"

The mildly playful argument continued in this fashion for a time. Meanwhile, Ashstripe and Honeystar were talking in the leader's den. "I don't know how much longer I can hold on," confided Honeystar. "I'm so old... And Applenose is capable; he's had two apprentices and has been with us since the beginning."

Ashstripe shook his head. "You're a good leader," he said reassuringly. "I'm sure that everything will be fine. You've steered us through so much, and... I just can't imagine Forestclan without you."

Honeystar chuckled without humor. "I suppose that's everyone's problem, isn't it? They've only ever had me as their leader. But they need to learn how to move on. We moved on after...Birchnose. After Crowcloud. Acornstream. Snowfoot. Everyone else who's ever lived and died in this clan. Forestclan is as strong as the trees that surround us. You will live."

"And so will you."

"Can you fetch me a..." Dustleaf paused and stared at her apprentice blankly.

"Raspberry leaf?" filled in Larkpaw uncertainly.

"Yes! Raspberry leaf, fennel, and ragwort leaf. That should do it." As Larkpaw ran off to the medicine cats' den to retrieve the required herbs, Dustleaf turned her attentions to Fawnfur. "How are you?"

"Nervous," replied Fawnfur with an uneasy chuckle. "I think I'll be alright."

Isidora moved slightly closer and sniffed. "Smells healthy," she reported.

"Good good. And you, Gulltail?"

Gulltail's lanky frame was as stiff as a branch. Nothing, not even her tail, moved for a moment. And then she relaxed. "It comes and goes." Larkpaw came back and dropped the leaves onto the ground. "It's not incapacitating, though."

Dustleaf dipped her head in acknowledgement. "All right. Fawnfur, here you go," she said, nudging the fennel and ragwort leaf towards the fawn molly. "Gulltail, here." The raspberry leaf was given to the hairless queen. "We'll be by your sides."

The six cats stopped near a tree. "Here," said Brightfang, "is where you'll be learning to hunt today. As a Forestclan cat, you need to know how to fish, hunt on the ground, and hunt in the trees. Today, we'll be starting with the ground."

"Why fish?" asked Icepaw.

"Because the River is a good source of prey in the newleaf and greenleaf," replied Kestrelclaw. "You might not be a good fisher, but you'll need to learn. In addition to fishing, you will be learning to swim."

Blizzardpaw groaned. "But water doesn't feel good, and isn't it freezing?"

Gannetstorm chuckled. "It's not that bad in Crowcloud's Stream," she said. "It's more of a precaution for the River because if you can't swim and you fall in... I've known several cats who've drowned. Good cats, all." Her eyes were slightly downcast at the thought. She had only been a young warrior when The Camp Fire had broken out and still remembered Honeystar's look as she carried Palefur back. Still remembered Birchnose's cry of despair. She shook her head. The memories might never fade but she couldn't let them overwhelm her.

Cloudpaw sighed. "Can we get to the actual hunting already?" he asked.

"Of course," replied Brightfang. "Let's start."

Mila sighed with delight. After six moons of being stuck in the nursery except for the few times that she was able to go out for a walk, the fishing patrol was a relief. She glanced around her and saw Adderstream flip a fish up onto the banks of the River. "Good job," she said with a slight purr.

Adderstream looked around, panicked for a moment, before catching Mila's eye and smiling. "Thanks," he said, somewhat embarrassed. "I mean, practice is always good, right?"

Mila nodded with a slight twitch of her whiskers. "I hope I'm not too out of practice."

"Don't worry," piped up Neritestream. "I'm sure you won't be much worse than me." She glanced dolefully at her wet paws. "I might be good at swimming but I can't fish to save my life."

Boulderpelt snorted with mild amusement. "Have you thought about those of us who aren't as good as you at swimming or fishing?" Her tail twitched. "Mmm?" After a few moments of uncomfortable silence, the brown molly laughed. "Well, at least I'm not terrible at it. And Neritestream, we all catch some, lose some. It happens to even the best of us." Just as she said that, Barleystream let out a meow of surprise as she almost fell into the River which was dangerous, even during the newleaf and greenleaf.

"You alright?" asked Dandeliontail gently, padding over to the shaken molly.

"Yeah, I'm good," replied Barleystream with a shake of her head. "At least I didn't fall in."

Fritillarynose couldn't look Briarwhisker in the eye and hadn't been able to for the past few moons. I'm so sorry, she wanted to yowl but found herself unable to. I just wanted there to be a better way! But had she? Had she really? Looking back, the tortoiseshell molly could only view herself with disgust. She had been selfish. She had been egotistical. And she had gone against the core values of her clan. But something held her back from telling Honeystar, and it was the fear for her life. Could Honeystar ever forgive her? What about her mother? Her friends? Would she have to leave? Fritillarynose couldn't stand the thought of leaving the only home that she had ever known, even if she had betrayed it. No. She would live the rest of her life and be the dutiful clan member. She would hunt and fight for her clan. She would mentor to the best of her abilities--if she got chosen. But she could never find love, not when she had taken it from others. But she might never go to Starclan, a fate that she had already accepted. It's alright, she thought to herself. I don't deserve it anyways. I don't deserve to find happiness. Peace. Contentment. I just need to leave the clan better than when I was born into it. That's the only thing I can--should--care about.

"Are you alright?" asked Hillfang.

Fritillarynose gave her head a mental shake. "Yeah, just thinking."

"About?"

"Life. The future of Forestclan."

Hillfang gave a bitter smile. "Same here."

"Alright," said Briarwhisker, breaking into the conversation. "We're going to hunt near Crowcloud's Stream. Don't get too far from it, okay?" The others nodded. "Good." Orchidwhisker and Silverstorm bounded off together before Briarwhisker could say another word, and Fritillarynose smiled slightly. At least they were...fine. Not good. Birchnose's blood still stained Fritillarynose's fur and as long as she lived, the littermates would never be good. Maybe it would be better if she gave herself...no. She had to live. She had to contribute to the clan. Make up for the missing bodies. Make up for the missing friends.

Nour padded off more sedately, and Hillfang followed behind a few heartbeats later. Briarwhisker, too, left on her own hunting mission which left Fritillarynose all alone. Time to hunt.

Aspentail sighed. He felt so old, even though he was several seasons younger than Honeystar. But looking at his clanmates on patrol, maybe he was justified. Shellfur and Tipnose, the next oldest, weren't even thirty moons. The other three--Mistfur, Heronface, and Reedfur--were even younger. When had he aged so much?

"Remember," he heard himself say. "Try not to intrude onto each other's hunt. Try your best. Bring home some food." What else was there to say?

"I wish that dad could be with us," said Carpfang.

Cherryclaw nuzzled the molly. "I'm sure that he's watching from Starclan and is very proud of both of you."

"I know. Just..."

Dawnface grimaced. "We were all hit hard by the traitor. At least we still have each other."

Hareclaw nodded. "And at least mom's still here. And we have each other." He drew closer to his sister and they went that way, in step for a time. They paused near the Acornclan border and Leechstorm marked it, and Badgerstripe did the same further up. There wasn't much talking for the rest of the patrol; just the silence of clanmates who mourned in their own ways. The many moons hadn't taken the sting off of their losses and, Cherryclaw suspected, it never would.

W E A T H E R
Newleaf- With the cold breezes of Leafbare behind, the Clans are relaxing and slowly starting to leave camp more often. However, with the heat rising, the remnants of snow are beginning to melt, causing floods everywhere. Storms will contribute to these, and due to this, more cats will want to join your clan to avoid the bad weather.

ixxx▬wiltedstar's ears flicked, angled backwards slightly. the clan would soon be overrun by kits, much to his annoyance; chamomilewhisker's mate, barleystep, with the southern belle accent and the easygoing grins and the flippant affection, was due to be kitting at any moment, and plumshade had apparently gone and gotten herself knocked up by heavypad (not that wiltedstar understood why; plumshade seemed to show more annoyance towards heavypad than infatuation). and silversky's kits were an absolute pawful, tumbling through the graveyard. one of them (wiltedstar was not sure whether it was thymekit or vervainkit, exactly, since they both looked the same, and he hadn't bothered to learn how to tell them apart. the only one he could recognize was hollykit) had even slammed full-force into wiltedstar as he'd emerged from his den, stretching his forelegs until a tiny ball of uselessness collided with him, rather roughly.
ixxx▬you see, kits did nothing. they ate and slept and whined and made too much noise, but they could not actually do anything productive. and so, until these kits were apprentices, wiltedstar would not much care for them.
ixxx▬wiltedstar did, however, have his eye on the new apprentice, whom he'd dubbed hornetpaw. the golden-pelted tom had a fiery personality, and snapped easily at anyone who challenged him; much like his namesake. (wiltedstar could recall a time when he'd been hunting and had slipped down a hill rather ungracefully, landing at the base of a tree which housed an ornery nest of hornets who had put him in his place quickly. not that he'd ever admit that to anyone from his clan.)
ixxx▬wiltedstar's yellow gaze slid from the apprentice to yet another new member of graveclan (his clan was growing fast; at this rate, he would soon not be able to come up with any new names). the molly was silvery-blue atop the ridge of her spine, with mask-like patches of grey that lay across her eyes. eyes that were like the sky; not the clear, sunny day with gentle white clouds drifting past, but like the sky when the turmoil of electricity grasped at the air, when thunder crashed and lightning forked through the building clouds of rain that roiled atop one another, restless, eager to escape.
ixxx▬stormy eyes met bright yellow; geckosplash's ears curved towards wiltedstar, towards his perch atop a large, flat headstone. she had felt his gaze on her pelt, felt it like hot coals beneath her fur, or like the prick of a porcupine's quill as it hit one in the muzzle. this tom, with his attention and his kingship status and his handsome, dark demeanor made geckosplash's feet feel antsy. she needed to move, to stand, to shake off her pelt; she felt like bees were buzzing around her ears, and like a snake had coiled it's way around her throat, and she couldn't move couldn't speak couldn't anything.
ixxx▬and then wiltedstar tore his gaze away.
ixxx▬and everything came rushing back; there were no bees, there was no snake, only the murmur of voices around her and the swaying of trees and the scent of rain, far away. geckosplash shot a last, furtive glance at wiltedstar before she slunk off, her thoughts invaded with the thought of the rather small, dark tom with the eyes that flashed like the wave of a tree during leaf-fall, or the brief flick of a fish's tail as it surfaced to catch an insect off of the top of the water, and the imposing demeanor that demanded attention, and ―
ixxx▬the bees were back again.

ixxx▬chamomilewhisker was overjoyed, he was exuberant, he was buoyant he was elated he was jubilant, and every other word under the sun that meant happy. barleystep was here and she was safe and she was about to have her kits and chamomilewhisker had never felt so full of love, of adoration, of affection ―
ixxx▬all sense of propriety abandoned, his cheek was pressed against hers and his purr could be heard throughout the entire cemetery; barleystep was grinning widely, her eyes gentle.
ixxx▬"i di'n't think i'da got this much of a welcome," she beamed, smoothing down the fur atop chamomilewhisker's head, her own purring echoing his. she had a swollen tummy and a love-drunk smile and a voice that beckoned thoughts of rows of crops and cows grazing in fields of grass as green as her eyes and roosters announcing the arrival of the sun.
ixxx▬she shifted, stretched, and chamomilewhisker curled around her, his forelegs keeping her close, his chin resting atop her head. "surely you would have had a welcome such as this," he answered, voice reverberating throughout her chest. "i was distraught without you; i've missed you, my dear."
ixxx▬but now, they were together. and they were happy.

ixxx▬plumshade, however, was irritated. her tail lashed an angry sweep against the grass that she lay on, her swollen belly uncomfortably full of kits. she hated kits. the only reason she'd gone and gotten pregnant was to coerce heavypad into helping her kill wiltedstar; if he believed their kits to be in danger, plumshade figured that he'd stop at nothing to protect his kin (since the rest of his siblings had been lost, and he was a very family-oriented tomcat. and also very gullible).
ixxx▬but she hadn't considered the fact that, you know ― she would have to birth the things.
ixxx▬she hissed lightly at her belly; she would have the ugly scraps of fur and then be done with them. once she was the queen of graveclan (and by that, she did not mean being wiltedstar's mate; in fact, she would have rather been forced to care for the kits inside her for six moons than be with that tom), she would no longer have to be concerned with petty ideals such as family and love. mates would be assigned based on strength; what was the point in having kits otherwise?
ixxx▬see, look at chamomilewhisker and barleystep, coddling one another and purring over the soon-to-be-born kits inside of the molly. they were both weak, they were both scrawny, and their kits would never amount to anything.
ixxx▬plumshade figured, at least, that the kits she was carrying would be tough, since both of their parents were strong, resilient cats. (she refused to think of the kits as hers.) they would be good warriors, and perhaps, if they were worth their keep, plumshade might allow them to stay in graveclan.
ixxx▬see, again, she disagreed with a majority of wiltedstar's ideals; letting cats have mates for love? letting them have kits whenever? no. that would have to change, once plumshade became plumstar. along with that, the amount of prey allowed to each cat would be regulated; no more selecting their own prey, no more eating until they were full. they would get one mouse. training for apprentices would be doubled; they would be forced into toughness, forced to be strong enough to survive the harsh conditions of graveclan.
ixxx▬cats would be exiled. wiltedstar, of course, along with his followers. flintmask, heavypad. silversky might be allowed to stay; the molly had a spirit of fire, and would probably be glad to see wiltedstar gone. fallowstep could stay, but only because he was too much of an idiot to do much to stop plumshade.
ixxx▬plumshade drew a delicate paw over her ear, her annoyance having faded to a dull knowledge of her pregnancy. once she was done with the whole ordeal, she would kill wiltedstar where he stood. she would rip all nine lives from him, and then take his clan right out from under his nose.
ixxx▬plumstar did have a nice ring to it.

ixxx▬plumshade did not deserve those kits. she did not deserve happiness, she did not deserve love, she did not deserve to ever have been a leader. ivytongue's eyes were tiny slits as he stared at her from across the camp; she deserved nothing, except to suffer as much as she'd made ivytongue suffer.

Quiet snores could be heard from the shadows in the new nursery as Lilykit and Berrykit slept while their mother, Sorrelwing, was in the clearing eating. Only a moon ago the queen and her two kits had been brought into camp, tired and hungry. Now fed, named, and happy, they lived along side the clan.

weather: new-leaf.
during newleaf, kittings will run much smoother and the chances of the queens or kits dying during birth will go down dramatically. there is also a higher chance that you catch more prey than usual. in addition, the chances of catching greencough, whitecough, and kittencough will go down. with all the snow melting, it is very likely that your territory will start flooding. there will also be more storms that will contribute to the flooding. the odds of finding new cats is very high.

regal muzzle tilted upward, the young molly picked her way gingerly through the white streets, navigating her way
around the pristine white houses teeming with life in santorini, greece. distantly, she could hear the waves crashing,
carrying with it the sharp scent of the sea. she had long since abandoned
the life of a kittypet when felines appeared
in her dreams, starlight glittering at the tips of their claws, appointing to
her the duty to rule swanclan as mallowstar.
so here she was, recruiting others like her.

”gods, i’m so sorry! someone small bumped against mallowstar’s front legs and she reared up on her back legs, yowling in
suprise. a young tabby tomcat gazed up at her, panting, wih inquisitive, pale eyes, laying upon his back from having
tumbled into her. mallowstar looked up at the feline who had spoken, a molly
who was younger by many months,
bright blue eyes wide with apology. ”young jackdawpaw is tired from our journey. our clans disbanded a little while back.”

jackdawpaw scrambled to his paws, moving to stand beside the molly, who gave him a stern look. ”you’re clan cats?

Next Moonpool visit: Tuesday, June 19th

Morningstar lounged by the Moonpool as she watched the sun crest over the peaceful trees. Her dream was reassuring as StarClan promised to send help, but there was just a tiny seed of doubt in Morningstar's head. Sending a cat her way seems like a monumental request, and she had already pushed herself to her feet when she heard a deep voice behind her.
"Would you happen to be Morningstar?" The voice inquired. Morningstar spun around and saw a dark, long-haired tom with green eyes.
"I am," She dipped her head in greeting. "StarClan answered my prayer. Welcome to TwistedClan."
The tom mirrored her greeting. "Thank you. My name is Storm, and I have travelled far. Can you show me where our camp is?"
Morningstar draped her tail over his shoulders and the two started in the vague direction of the cabin. "Of course, and we will hunt on the way back. I like the name Storm." She paused. "But if you are to join TwistedClan, you shall have a proper warrior name." Storm tried not to show his excitement, but Morningstar still saw his whiskers twitch out of the corner of her eye. "Seeing as it is just us at the moment, I will name you informally." Morningstar paused and faced Storm. "From this moment on, you shall be known as Stormstrike, and I welcome you as a full member of TwistedClan." She briefly rested her muzzle on Stormstrike's head.
They continued on their walk through the forest, ducking under branches and hopping over fallen branches and logs. Stormstrike was the first to break the semi-comfortable silence. "Did I hear you correctly when you said it was just us two in the Clan so far?" His voice was disbelieving.
"For now, but I expect that to change." Morningstar replied brightly. "It's nice to start slow as I'm not really used to being around other cats."
"Not much of a Clan with only two members." Stormstrike muttered to himself.
"Excuse me?" Morningstar retorted sharply. She shouldered him away. "Let's see how accomplished you are at hunting." She leaped onto a low branch and looked back down at the tom still on the ground. "Coming?"
