PANGAEA
A Nuisance Raptor 3 Part Adventure Game

*Optional introductory lore dump below, not a required read, but recommended for foundational purposes. This is a multilayered and evolving activity.

Legend has it that far beyond the gardens and haunted hill houses where raptors roam, an unmapped cavern system tunnels to a place we will call Pangaea. Not exactly the Pangaea of Earth’s early years, this one is rumored to be vastly different. A bit…magical, one might say. And before you roll your eyes at this claim, consider this: find the magical realm of Pangaea, ???, profit. Actually, that sounds way too vague and ominous… let me rephrase. Consider this: travel to Pangaea, document any new and exciting raptor species, earn their trust, and then reap the benefits of being one with this “Pangaea”.

I’ve convinced you now, haven’t I? Cringe storytelling aside, this realm is said to be home to very primitive raptor types. Raptors you’re not going to be able to obtain anywhere else. They’re likely to be incredibly shy and unsure of your presence, so it’s recommended you travel to this place frequently so you can build trust with the area and get these guys to open up to you. Once you’ve found it, of course.

To begin, allow me to set the stage. You’re on an expedition here! To discover the secrets of Pangaea and find yourselves a raptor worth bragging to home about. You know they exist, even if it’s only been told in whispers. So pack up what might be useful to you. Notebooks, pencils, lanterns, a magnifying glass, anything that you believe will help you on your way. The caverns are where you will begin, and bring all your friends! This will need some expert navigation skills.

—— End of optional lore dump ——

Required Read Below

This activity will change and evolve over time. This will not stay the same activity. Once a goal has been met, it will start a new goal until eventually leveling out into a solidified long term activity. As of now, there are three planned stages: A navigation activity, an exploration activity, and a final long term evidence activity.

*Missing participation in the first two stages will not exclude you from participating in the final established activity. The build up just has some extra chances for raptors and fun.

Don’t be mistaken to skip out, however. The first two stages need participants to reach our collective end goal! The more participants help out in the beginning, the faster everyone can get to the bulk of this adventure!

Part 1: The Caverns | Navigation Activity

Postby LokiToons » Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:01 pm

The Caverns

Your travels begin here, at the mouth of a very large and gaping cavern. The tunnels are dark and smell of mildew and dirt, but there’s also a sense of curiosity and excitement in the air. Together, the secrets of Pangaea might just come to fruition!

Upon entering the cavern, there is an immediate problem. A fork in the road. Three directions, all of them pitch black. With no prior documentation of this cavern, you’ll just have to build a map of your own. The best thing to do here is split up! Stalk deeper into the caverns, remember every turn you take and add it to the map. Eventually you’ll have a route straight to the source for everyone else to follow! With how old these caves are… there may be some rewards hiding in the dark too. Sometimes the wrong path isn’t without benefit.

—————

Please read through the mechanics below to get an idea of how this works. I will be handling revealing what pathways have been explored, you will never actually have to provide any map yourself. All I need from you are directions.
Read carefully! You will have to do some retracing steps yourself and each round have an idea of where your last actions left you in the cave. If it isn’t correct, your next actions may not be useful or get you far.

Come back every map update to check the progress of how navigation is going. If you are ever unsure where your previous actions have left you, you can contact me through PM or Discord with your full list of directions taken. I am expecting a lot of confusion with this task but I am really hoping these figures and instructions make it somewhat understandable. If by the third round I am repeatedly getting more than 10 or so people asking me where they are, I will provide extra documentation for everyone in the updates. This will increase the time it takes me to update and inform so I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that, but I also don’t want anyone so frustrated they quit. This whole activity was created to be fun.

CURRENT MAP: Day 4 | Belly of the Beast
Image

Check back every update to find where your actions have taken you and where your actions will bring you next!

Users are represented by the red dots, some of you may overlap! I’ll provide notes of successful actions and which dot represents you at the end of your current turn. If you are newly posting, as in did not participate in previous rounds, you always start in the very first room (big white dot!) with three directions to go.

I am only noting actions that were successful, if your turn ended early it’s because your action ran you straight into a wall and wasn’t a possible navigation request. If your turn ended on a stop (this will happen if the straight path doesn’t have the split you tried for) the stop will be ignored and it will become a complete move instead. Example: left, stop, up —-> there is no path that splits upward on the left path —-> you are placed at the other end of the “left” route instead, see figure 2.

If you don’t see your username posted in the location aid or if you perform your steps and they do not reasonably line up with what actions you took, reach out to me for clarity or inform me of a miscalculation! Some people had weird moves and I had to default to full directions (example, your move ended from an impossible “stop” option, I placed you at the end of the last direction you took rather than drop you in the middle of the pathway)

─── ⋆⋅☼⋅⋆ ───

MAP MECHANICS (read thoroughly)

You have 5 actions to choose from: up, down, left, right, and stop
(emojis or symbols are also acceptable but I must be able to see them!)

What do each of these actions mean?

Up: I am moving up

Down: I am moving down

Left: I am moving left (on map left is left, there is no “well if I’m walking into the cave from here, left is actually right” nonsense. If you go left you move left on the map as you see it)

Right: I am moving right (read above parenthesis, vice versa, right is right, no switch up)

Stop: This one is explained further with examples below on how to use. Stop allows you to find where a straight pathway has a split. You can use this when you do not want to fully follow through a straight path. A split can occur in any direction along a straight path.

Every round you will have 10 paces to use. This means each round you can write up to 10 actions to take. They will be documented in the order you write them.
Here is an example of a full 10 pace turn:
Down, Left, Right, Stop, Up, Down, Right, Left, Down, Left, Down

Cavern Mechanics | A Guide

Postby LokiToons » Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:01 pm

Mechanics with examples:

Image

Figure 1: This demonstrates how a stop works. The red dot is where you are starting. If you use a stop after a direction is given, you can then try a new direction within that line to find a split. The stop only counts for the previous action given, it will never count for the action placed after it.

Figure 2: This demonstrates a full action. No stop was requested so the action was taken to the furthest point of the straight line. Full actions will always take you through to the end of the path. Only a stop can give you a chance to find a pathway between end points.

Figure 3: This is to make it clear I was very careful about avoiding splits in the same direction on the same straight path. There will be no accidental impossible navigation. You should easily be able to tell which path was taken without worrying between two choices.

Figure 4: This shows a completed pathway. Every action listed was possible, so that point A could reach point B and await the next round. If the updated map shows clear and precise directions that match with your actions, you have completed a pathway and will have reached the furthest point of your directions!

Figure 5: This shows an incomplete pathway. This means your turn ended early. Even if you requested to move 10 paces, if you reach a point a direction was not possible, that is where your turn ended and where you will begin on the next round. This is expected to happen a lot! No penalty is given for an incomplete pathway, this is what navigation is about!

The Caverns | Round Entry Information

Postby LokiToons » Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:02 pm

Rounds will begin and end when I announce it so. This could be every 24 hours, every few days, or once a week. I will be clear with a cut off post and clear with a new round post. You’ll get one turn of 10 actions per round. Posting actions after I have announced a cut off and before I have opened a new round means you will be skipped. Please be patient after I have closed each round as I will need to manually plot out every entry and uncover what pathways were correctly navigated.

There are five prizes to be found on the map. If a prize is discovered by a single adventurer, they are the sole winner of that prize and navigating to that area afterwards will not result in a reward. First found, first claimed. If multiple adventurers discover the prize in the same round, everyone that finds it gets something.

As announced on the server, this minigame has officially opened up to its first round of posting. I will post when it has closed, estimating about 3 days, you’ve got time. Please read all instructions, there’s a lot of mechanics to understand, especially as more of the map is revealed!
