When the last snow has fallen
On this late equinox eve
No warm greenleaf breezes
Foliage of leaf-fall buried beneath
We still find ourselves some safety, some reprieve

Not a garden in starlight,
Or a pool reflecting the moon,
Though our ancestors still watch us
We will share tongues with them soon

Our shelter comes from a big old red barn
With hay stacks for sleeping
Farm mice for eating
And even a long lost ball of yarn

When this weather causes us to mourn,
Our fallen long gone but remembered
Even among our most ill-tempered
And our young kittens all worn

↬ prompt: We all sing songs around the campfire, tell stories, and even joke about the holiday spirit. The next morning we all share gifts of many different sizes and kinds. Even then the melodies seem to repeat themselves throughout the season. A way to keep our spirits up I guess. A personal favorite is a child's tune to remind the kittens to behave during the winter moons.

Sleep tight and safe inside your den. ♪

The silver pelt will grant a wish, ♪

Most believe it means that kittens will receive a gift for behaving. But the truth is it sings about surviving till next spring. I'd never have the heart to tell them that though, and the kittens do get plenty for there deeds. They deserve every last treat.
