Writing: Story regarding the event featuring #A-0005 SM's Read Between the Lines//Linus [214 words]

Hiking was one of Linus' most favorite things in the entire world. When he heard about the annual Carolina Shepherd event, he knew that it would involve some wonderful adventure. A hike up a large mountain sounded fantastic, and Linus was more than pleased when he found out that he was the dog who had been chosen to represent the Slate Mine estate.
He and his trainer had made pretty good progress on their first day. Linus hadn't exactly been counting the distance they had traveled, but the trainer seemed pleased and that was all that really mattered. This lower part of the mountain was covered in thick forest. Linus enjoyed all of the new smells, and spent a lot of the time on the very edge of the trail, his nose buried in the undergrowth.
There was also a lot of wildlife to see. Linus was sure that he had seen a fox, but he'd been very distracted running from some large bees that had appeared. By nightfall, Linus was exhausted but still full of excitement. He helped his trainer set up the camp by fetching the tent pegs. As the entrance of the tent was zipped up, Linus stole one last glance at the tree line.
Today had been a good day.

Batman and Frisco made steady progress up the trail today, stopping a few times to take breaks, eat snacks, and take the odd bit of gravel out of boots and paws. You've progressed 388 feet up the mountain!

Early on in your hike thunder booms across the mountainside and rain starts to fall. Chocolate Puff and Furrydogs12 find a small cave and take shelter until the storm passes before continuing your hike. You've progressed 260 feet up the mountain!

Ghost and Delta Dawn got distracted by a stream and followed it up the mountainside to a small waterfall and pool, how nice! The water is clear and cool, and Ghost hops in for a quick swim. You've progressed 403 feet up the mountain!

Cinnamon and ►Athena◄ come up to a smooth rock that is wet after the morning's rain - there's no way around it and no hand holds or guide ropes. Both you and Cinnamon try to climb it, but ultimately wind up sliding back down. You spend the remainder of the day trying to find an alternate route. Unfortunately you've failed to progress up the mountain today.

Linus and shortstop find a nice steam to play in - the water is cool, clear, and refreshing, and is a great help to soothe sore legs and paws! You've progressed 398 feet up the mountain!

While hiking Chester and Gasparluna844 come across one of the park rangers cutting up a tree that has fallen across the trail. They ask for your help, so you lend a hand while Chester enjoys dragging branches around. After all of this hard work you decide to take a quick nap, and wake up feeling refreshed and continue your hike. You've progressed 407 feet up the mountain!

Everything seems to be going wrong for Julius525 today. You slept poorly, your boots were wet from an overnight shower, something made off with some of your trail snacks, and you've just managed to trip over a rock and hurt your ankle. Sending your frustration, Delgado gently nuzzles their head into you and gives you a few licks, trying to make you feel better. You decide to call it for the day before something even worse happens. Unfortunately you've failed to progress up the mountain today.

The next day on the mountain was equally exciting, but Linus knew that this was when the serious work would have to begin. The trainer led Linus further up the trail, and the terrain around them began to change. It was subtle at first, and Linus didn't really notice the changes. He was much too busy exploring the new scents that the mountain had to offer. But the forest started to thin out as they got higher up the mountain. It got easier for Linus to see the sky, and every now and now he glanced up to look at the cool clouds that were forming. They were very different from the clouds back home. They were picturesque and so inviting. Linus wondered if he would be able to touch them once they reached the mountain's peak.
Near the middle of the afternoon, Linus and the trainer came across a stream. The trainer led Linus over to the stream bank, opening a water bottle so that it could be refilled. Linus plunged his face into the water. It tasted so clean, and was refreshingly cool. There was no water like this at home, either. He drank until he was full, happy for the break from the hike. The trainer finished up too, and waited until Linus was ready before ushering him back towards the trail.
Linus continued the hike eagerly. What other cool things did this mountain have to offer? Linus couldn't wait to find out.

Marek is know to many as a stern and proud dog. He likes to follow commands without hesitation and always puts other dogs in their respective places. But he doesn't always have his proud moments especially when it comes to chickens. He despises the death clouds with their pointy beaks and sharp claws. Very rarely does he engage in play and when he does he has a hard time knowing to be gentle around others.
