i want to stir up controversy; is pumpkin a fruit or a vegetable?: vegetable is the popular choice in this situation. yet, that is only from a socially constructed standpoint because, as is popular, we tend to associate squash varieties as vegetables due to their lack of sweetness, as well as their texture and tough outer-shell. we have also traditionally prepared squash similar to how we prepare other vegetables, rather than the sweet dishes commonly associated with fruits. however, plants under the cucurbita genus produce the edible fruit that we label as squash, gourds, or pumpkins. they are, in technicality, considered seed-bearing fruits. (lol dont take me seriously)
