CHALLENGE 2
Fullbody Day!

Frenchie looks over the headshot you brought back, "Oh, oh marvelous! Fantastic work!" He pins it proudly on the booth under a little sign reading "Challenge 1" for all the eventgoers to see. He turns back to you with enthusiasm, "So, I suppose it's on to the next one, yes? Well I hope you're up for a tad bit more of a challenge... today is Full-Body day! We'll need a full body—any medium is fine."

Challenge 2 is a full body of any of your lambicorns!
Preferably, pick a lambie who doesn't have any artwork yet!! Show them some love. <3

This must be a NEW creation! No "recycled" art allowed!
Take this opportunity to practice your skills or try something new. ^^

Remember, this is not a sketch or lineart challenge, so whichever you choose please make sure it's colored in fully.

This CAN be 2d or 3d, traditional or digital, it does not have to be "drawn"!
Please refer to my note below about traditional media if you choose to sculpt.
*If you do it traditionally, please try to take a clear enough picture of the work ONLY (no background stuff if possible please) or scan it in. If it's so small or low-lighting that I can't tell what it is, it may not count!

An example of a full body can be seen here with Peaches! Your lambie can be in any pose.

*I will include a small tutorial at the bottom if you aren't familiar with fullbody drawing or just need a refresher! If you are pretty confident in your fullbody work, I challenge you to pick a more unique pose! Sitting, dancing, handstanding, etc. Try it out!

1. When beginning a sketch, the most important things for me are the head and the "line of action." I call these two together the "balloon line" because it often ends up looking like a balloon! We typically divide the head into quarters, and wherever the two lines meet gives you an approximate idea of a) where the character is facing and b) where to put the facial features. Don't worry about those yet though. For this one, it is a simple forward face and the "balloon line" is turned since this is a quadruped creature.

2. Next, we'll add the very rough suggestions of a torso area (think the ribcage) and the hip area (think hipbones). They are more loose shapes than actual skeleton! This gives us somewhere to put some limbs onto. Notice in my sketch I'm not trying to be too perfect with these! Always keep your sketches light and loose, it gives more freedom later. I then put a horizontal bar through each of those shapes (not a perfect divide down the middle!) and off of those I draw my very loose limbs lines like sticks. Those horizontal bars are telling me the angle of the shoulders and hips and they would change if a leg was raised, for example.

3. Next, we start to add some more shape to the sketch. I put some blobs for feet, a simple loose sketch for my lambie's face with a circle base for the horn, and added some pink circles to my lamb's "shoulders" and "hips." These pink circles give me a better idea of how my lamb's front legs will actually interact with the torso. You don't want tiny spaghetti limbs after all! (unless they're a funky UNIque) Then you can see a darker blue outline as I begin to connect the neck and torso to the hips. When connecting these, think of connecting two cliffs with a bridge—not a stiff tubelike line. Now you can see how the balloon line is coming into play! These connections should feel organic and soft!



4. Now you've gotten the structure part down and its time to customize! I'll do some other lessons later for legs, fur and faces. If the equine legs give you trouble, treat them like MLP pony legs and keep it really simple!! Soft shapes, smooth lines. You can get fancy and add fluff off of those.

5. SNEAKY tip time! If you finish a sketch and you're like "hmmm something is off" then take your drawing and flip it horizontally! This will sometimes show you things that you didn't notice before! If you're drawing traditionally, turn your paper over and hold it up against a light to see the reverse image.
