The antique shop would accept oddities no questions asked. They would simply give you money for anything you dropped off, granted, it had to be antique and preferably magical for it to be accepted. That is how Saorise came across a neat little box that was seemingly antique and definitely magical. Boxes certainly aren’t a rarity in this line of work, but they are more often cardboard and filled to the brim with odd tokens or quill ends. What is even more interesting is that every so often, there would be a fancy lacquered box with a cursed necklace or enchanted ring.

The box that the patron left her with did not seem to quite fit into either category. It was a metallic tin with a simple handle on top, but it was lovingly decorated with postage stamps. The stamps started out simple from the left hand corner, where they were all simple squares with uniform lines, but they radiated out from there to be all shapes and sizes. The pictures and post offices seemed to widely vary as the stamps wrapped around the box. Some stamps were even placed along the bottom when the sides were filled. The patron stated that they couldn’t get it to open but a spell caster in the family informed them that the box would no longer be useful to the family, ergo, they pawned it off. The magic surrounding the box certainly feels protective but not malicious so it was an unreasonable reaction Saorise supposed.

Saorise has been in the antique collecting business for long enough that things shouldn’t be coaxed open when they do not want to so she left the box to take care of other work. She left the box to its own devices and set her sights on dealing with shipment sorting. As she was working, she heard some clinkin but quickly dismissed it. Magic items clink all the time. Once the old cuckoo clock sang its evening song she called it a day. It takes a lot of effort to unpack things especially when their magical properties are not completely known. When Saroise returned to the room to put away the box at last, the lid was open and there was a shiny key inside cushioned with aging paper. As she moved to pick it up, suddenly all the alarm clocks went off at the same time.

A loud boisterous voice shouted straight into her brain, “Surprise!”. Saorise swore she must have jumped high enough to reach the ceiling from fright.

“Hello! Congratulations, I have picked you to be my next keyholder,” the voice said again. A black fox-like creature hovered into view and extended an arm out. Saorise looked where the fox pointed. At this point, Saoirse just nods along, monologuing spirits get sad when they are cut off. “That there is my key! My name is Asra and I’m excited to see what you are up to here!” said the creature, Asra, “I’ve been waiting for a while to see whose adventures to follow next and you are the lucky winner!”

“My name is Saorise, sure why not, I’ll be your keyholder,” she picked up the box to make a point of it. It’s easier to go with the flow in these spectral hauntings she has learned.

(Later on, she finds that Asra is in fact, not a spirit, but a floc that talks more than cursed mirrors, but it was too late to back out now.)
