The way down into the depths of the cave was not easy. As they moved on, it kept getting darker and darker until only the runes on Shadow’s body illuminated their silhouettes. Their new alien friend was able to mimic that effect and provide them with a little bit more brightness. If the situation wasn’t so serious they would have probably found their group to look very funny. Four lions carefully sneaking across rocks, with two of them glowing like holiday lights. The cold was growing as well, but at least their path eventually got easier, opening up into larger tunnels until eventually leading into a large open cavern.

There, on a contraption none of them have seen before, was their target. Auris gasped seeing the figure. It was none other than the commander of their headquarters in Kingscardine. So it was too late. It has already managed to possess the alien technology. The world was lost. But wait a minute. Thoughts run through the blue lion’s head at the speed of lightning. It was impossible. They saw the captain this morning, there was no way he got here before them. The alien could snatch bodies, it must have been only impersonating their leader. But even if that was the case… It must have had some contact with him to be able to possess that form. What did it mean? Were they working together?

Before he could reach any conclusion, the lion spoke. His voice was deeper than the one he knew and even more menacing. The effect only strengthened by the lion’s glowing red eyes. It didn’t seem surprised to have been discovered, but it looked like he did not expect their alien companion to be there. It has clearly overestimated it’s expectations. Yet, it did not seem impressed, but angered. Without any more words it launched from it’s resting place with it’s claws outstretched and towards the alien. The three lions were left with no time to react. The whole way here they were cautious, expecting that what they will uncover may be a trap. There did not seem to be one. They knew how to work together, hunt together in a pride. They knew how to act in a situation like this. Which of them should take the attacks, which should stay back and support, which one should try and ambush from behind. They expected the enemy would go for one of them, not the alien. It was a completely new addition to their team. It did not know any of their strategies or signals so they had no way of letting it know what to do. It was still getting used to it’s new lion body, making it quite defenceless. They did not expect it to get attacked, at least, not immediately. They made a mistake. Their plan was flawed. And yet, they could not let the imposter lion die. It was far from being their friend. They weren’t even completely sure if they could fully trust it. But it has warned them and lead them to the enemy’s lair. For now their best bet was to put their faith in it and that was why they would have to protect it just like one of their own.

Shadow reacted immediately. He rushed forward, pushing the enemy of their little companion and Auris run towards it to help it get up. The alien was frightened. The attack seemed to have really shaken it and for a moment it lost it’s lion form, returning to the shape of a fluffy black bunny. When it’s eyes locked with Auris’s and the lion spoke to it calmly, it seemed to get a grip of itself. It reshaped back into a lion, however, now it looked a little different. It’s eyes stayed glowing red, just like the enemy’s and it’s head was completely black, like it’s true body. Weird tendrils like extra paws sprouted from it’s back, just like they did from their imposter-captain’s. Apparently they could change their forms at will with no problem. The alien was ready to fight.

Doing their best to communicate with each other, they started attacking the enemy one by one. It was difficult, as they had to constantly avoid it’s tendrils, slashing at them from all sides, as well as their teeth and claws. The enemy alien seemed to be able to see all around it and attacking from different sides was not effective. Auris caught Shadow’s eyes. They spent long enough together that he was able to understand what the look meant. They would try to outsmart the monster and trap it. It would be hard to coordinate between the four of them, but they had to try. Auris run over to Ejsza.

- Protect the newbie. When you see the signal, hide.

- What signal? - she asked with a hint of desperation in her voice.

- You’ll know.

Suddenly all the glowing runes dimmed, the cavern was filled with dark smoke, which sight could not penetrate. They heard a loud slam and something falling. Then silence, as the cloud quickly dissipated. Shadow’s dark body was once again illuminated by the runes on his body. Auris growled.

- Who are you? - he asked. They expected that the enemy could possess one of them during the fight and he was not about to be fooled.

- Really? - Shadow seemed annoyed. When Auris did not stop baring his fangs, he turned his gaze away and then back at Auris, looking a little shy. - C’mon… I told you my name. It’s me.

Despite the whole situation Auris almost smiled. It was definitely his friend. And he had not seen him so embarrassed since that day. He would have teased him about it, but there were more important matters at hand. He relaxed and together they walked to the edge of a cliff from which the enemy should have fallen when all they lights went out. Ejszaka stopped covering the alien with her own body, they both stood up and joined the in with the rest.

Mamba padded through the cave, careful to keep his steps silent as he followed both the glowing orb and the little alien in lion form. The ground felt sick and heavy, tugging at him, and the stale air of the cave seemed to whisper in his ears, echoes of words he didn't understand. The language made his fur stand on end, and he narrowed his eyes, ears pricked and alert. Whatever was down here, it felt Wrong, and he absolutely did not like it.

Something loomed in the distance, and then the little guide was yelling and leaping, only to fall down again. The Uuk'oks muttered some rude words, but Mamba barely heard them, staring in shock at the beast.

It looked just like Morrow. You know, aside from the creepy eyes and the weird tentacles that were now growing out of its sides, lashing at the alien visitor who had led Mamba here.

Morrow. His wonderful, brave brother. The one who sat near him on the steps to the Palace during their shift. Two Metallics against any danger that might breach the outer walls. They had grown up together, trained together, fought together. And when that day came when the Beasts invaded, they had been prepared to die together.

Except Mamba didn't die.

He fell through the cracks in the very fabric of existence itself, and ended up in an entirely different universe, while his Kingdom was torn apart. The Kingdom didn't exist anymore, that was for sure, but what of Morrow? Was Morrow alive?

Mamba hoped so. He had always hoped so, for the years and years that he had been on this planet. He didn't regret being brought here, he had a family now that he loved dearly, but every now and then his thoughts wandered back to his brother and he wondered what had become of him. Even death would be ok. It was the not knowing that really got to him, that kept him wondering. He couldn't just accept something and move on without sufficient evidence. He couldn't say that Morrow was dead and mourn and move on. And he couldn't say for sure that Morrow was out there either. So he was left to wonder, and sometimes that really drove him crazy.

This wasn't Morrow though. It had stolen Morrow's form, but it didn't have his face, and it certainly didn't have his morals. Morrow wouldn't attack a little alien in a crowded cave. Although, if the alien was a Beast, Mamba supposed he would. He realized that he was currently in a similar situation to that of the Trees, when the Army of Life and Army of Decay had each fought each other and dragged outsiders into the middle, without the outsiders having a clear picture of what was going on. Mamba hated that. He wouldn't fight a battle without knowing he was fighting for Good. In this situation though, this Uuk'oks character was giving him some bad vibes. Mamba did not approve of calling someone a 'simpleton.'

He didn't engage right away though. First, he wanted to see if the alien could fight back. Maybe it had some hidden teeth and tentacles too.

Making their way down into the cave, it grows darker and darker around your lions, but eventually, it begins to grow bright. Theres a soft, pulsing blue light at the end of the tunnel. Following it further, it opens up into a massive cavern, covered in what looks like blue roots, red at the center it seems to be absorbing directly from the earth itself around it. Surely this is what is causing the disruption on the surface. Above them, red eyes leer menacingly. "I see you've found your way to my home" the voice croons uncomfortably. A lion...or rather... lion-like creature rests above them on a platform, something of alien origin. And the face- is familiar. (You can choose which lion has been overtaken for this role, whether its one of your own- making up an npc from a neighboring pride, a long lost relative, ect)

"Uuk'oks! Bad, Bad!" the visitor with your pride declares. Rearing up a big 'leap' it wiggles its rear in the air before taking a pounce. Apparently...gravity in this world is different because it doesn't go anywhere near as far as it expected to. The other being, Uuk'oks, as the alien had declared, narrows its eyes "I see. So this simpleton dragged you here." it eyes the other outerworldly lion, and without another word, leaps from its perch to lunge at them, determined to remove them before they can be a threat. Perhaps, this visitor knows something your lions don't about their intruder....making them dangerous.

It seems like Uuk'oks is up for a fight, long whip-like growths emerging from its fur to act as weapons as it attacks, and ridges of armor sprouting along its body to protect itself

Do your lions save their alien guest? How so? How do they fare in the fight against this alien threat?

Noelle felt a creeping sense of unease shiver up her spine as she followed the alien down into the cave. The cubs had adopted the alien as part of their own pack, dubbing it "Xeno" (Ara had been in charge of naming it), but Noelle couldn't shake off the suspicion that clung to her pelt like mud. What was this Xeno doing here anyway? And what in the world was going on with an Uuk'oks? Noelle had never heard anything like that in her life, and somehow the strange word coming from an even stranger creature didn't make her feel any better.

She watched Xeno as the alien being led them down further and further into the depths of the earth. It had chosen to take the form of Osheen, with a short neck mane and all. Instead of putting her at ease, though, the gesture only made Noelle feel more uncomfortable.

The cave began to lighten around them as the walls widened, the space around them becoming larger and larger as they traveled into the depths of the earth. What was strange about the whole thing was the pulsating blue light coming from further down the tunnel. It seemed like a heartbeat, a pulse of some otherworldly creature. Noelle stiffened. Could this pulse be controlled by an Uuk'oks, or some other alien creature? What if it was some sort of doomsday device to end the world? Or a giant egg? Or a giant being from some other planet?

Needless to say, there were a lot of worries circling in Noelle's mind at the moment. Along with them was the thought of her sister... They'd had to leave Lumi at the entrance after she'd tripped over a jutting stone and injured her hind leg. Only Cepheus had stayed behind with Lumi--hopefully Lumi would be able to protect the young lion if anything dangerous came at them.

The tunnel, soaring far overhead by now, opened up into an even bigger cavern. Blue roots climbed up the walls, stretching deep into the earth and stone around it. But at the center, the roots turned the red of rubies and blood. Noelle got the distinct feeling that this thing, whatever it was, was absorbing energy from the earth, sucking it straight out of the ground. A chill ran down her spine. This must be what had caused all the damage at the surface level.

She jumped when a slithery voice boomed through the cavern, like many voices all hissing at once: "I see you've found your way to my home." Noelle immediately glanced upward to see another alien creature standing on a rock ledge, staring down at them with scarlet eyes. It had the shape of a lion, but was definitely not of Noelle's kind. But its face... its face was familiar...

A gasp escaped from her lips as the alien leaned into the light.

This alien had the face of Khaysa.

Being stared down by what her brain classified as the only other half-snow-leopard-lion in existence wasn't even the weirdest thing to happen that day, but it was definitely the creepiest. Instead of the usual annoyance in her gaze, Khaysa's eyes--the alien's eyes--were filled with a sort of malice that Noelle had never seen displayed before.

"Uuk'oks!" Xeno cried. "Bad! Bad!" Xeno crouched down, his tail wiggling, then leaped toward Uuk'oks. Unfortunately, Xeno didn't seem quite used to gravity in this realm yet--he fell far short of Uuk'oks, instead landing on his face near the center of the pulsating roots.

Uuk'oks narrowed its eyes. "I see. So this simpleton dragged you here."

Before any of the Summitfall lions could respond, Uuk'oks leaped off its platform, fangs bared. Xeno barely managed to roll out of the way before Uuk'oks landed. If Xeno had been a second slower, Uuk'oks' fangs would have plunged into his throat.

"Xeno!" Ara and Dyani lunged forward toward the alien, who was rising shakily to his paws.

"NO! Get back!!" Noelle cried, quickly darting forward to put herself between Uuk'oks and the cubs. She wasn't about to let this dangerous alien near any of her three charges.

Uuk'oks only seemed to be growing more and more menacing by the second. Ridged plates of armor slid out alone its spine, and whip-like growths emerged from its sides, creating weapons.

"Xeno! Take the cubs and get out of here," Noelle growled, unsheathing her claws. "I'll cover you."

"No! Stay fight, Uuk'oks bad bad," Xeno twittered, standing beside Noelle.

She was torn with indecision. The cubs were in danger here, but now they had both Xeno and Noelle to protect them from this threat. She could shove them into a crevice and order them to hide, but they'd mostly likely still be in range of the alien beast. But if she made them leave, that would mean Noelle would be left alone to deal with Uuk'oks.

Uuk'oks made the decision for her. It leaped forward to block the exit, trapping all three lions and Xeno inside the cavern.

"Cubs! Run!" Noelle shouted, leaping for the creature. Uuk'oks lashed some of its growths at her, slicing through her pelt. She reached out to rake her claws along its shoulder, but whatever armor it had was much too thick for her to score a blow. Her paw banged off with a thunk, sending her tumbling past. She skidded on the cave floor and crashed into one of the walls, leaving Uuk'oks free to advance toward Xeno.

But right as it pounced, Noelle lodged her claws in its tail, dragging it backwards. It slammed into the ground with a wheeze, but almost instantly it was back on its feet again.

It turned around and hissed at her, "Do not meddle with things you do not understand!"

Noelle rose to her paws, feeling her right shoulder ache. She didn't know why these two aliens had such animosity toward one another--or even what their relationship was--but she knew one thing for certain.

She wasn't about to let one slaughter the other.

With everyone but her and the alien out of the fight Edana is scared. She is a hunter, not warrior, she was never much of a fighter. Yet she keeps going, Errjot at her side. They cover each others weaknesses and scratch and claw at Uuk’oks. It feels like forever but slowly its face slips from its stolen appearance. And after that it’s smile starts to fade. Yet its armour only grows spikier. At a couple of points Lakviar and Jelsa join in, smashing things from their bags before returning to check on Bahira and Keitaro, though even they are starting to recover.

As Bahira launches back into the fight Edana steps back. Its pointless, not even a scratch on the great world eaters image- Until Errjot bites with their many fangs and-

Uuk’oks mirage flickers. Underneath every scratch and wound shows. It is hurt! And badly too, likely only trying to intimidate them. With one final roar and push they damage it further, until it explodes into wisps.

Its cries of denial, of anger are intimidating for only a moment, before it gets so high pitched and pathetic that even Keitaro, limping as he is and his mane matted with mud laughs a little.

“You fools! I have rooted myself here.” It flashed the tiny fangs it still had. “There is no removing my influence, and soon enough I will be even more powerful.” The lions exchanged worried glances, it did have a point. They had to remove these roots. Keitaro kicked one, likely expecting it to just lift up, as if it was laying on the floor. Instead he hurt that paw, the root almost embedded within the rock. Uuk’oks laughed manically making Keitaro send a hurt glare its way.

“We should find a way to quieten that thing.” He said sullenly. Jelsa and Lakviar both started rifling through their bags. Finally Lakviar lifted out a dusty glass container. Glass was rare, especially some in a still functional form, rather than washed up on the beach.

“We should be able to keep an eye of it within here.” He said, putting it next to the great world eater. Unsurprisingly it didn’t just skittle into its new cage. Instead it took Jelsa sweeping it in and Bahira poking it with a stick before it was successfully contained, and a small leaf placed on top for a lid.

“Ill keep an eye on it, you guys figure out how to remove the roots.” Lakviar said, eying the creature, it only smiled evilly in response. Lakviar didnt like that smile, wondering what it knew, why it did these things. But it didnt speak any more.

Jelsa tried strange saps, sharp rocks and whatever she had left in her bag, while Bahira simply inspected the roots. Keitaro went out of the cave to watch how much time they had, how fast the sickness spread while Edana scratched at the roots, hoping their lack of damage might be a mirage much like Uuk’oks. (500/500 perfectly :D)

Prompt:

The fight over, the lions stood over the beast they had fought. The battle had almost been lost. If it wasn’t for Natu sending for backup at the last minute their opponent almost certainly would have won the fight.

At the end tt had fallen to the ground, seemingly in defeat. Its body fell apart around it, shrinking into a small ball of dark fluff. It looked up at them and squeaked at the lions, waving its tendrils around in the air angrily.

"No! You will not stop me! I have already rooted myself here!" Its voice was high pitched and small, sounding much like a small cub trying to intimidate its parents. Ozmore looked at it with a sense of amusement.

The blue roots suddenly pulsed, leaving the lions feeling strangely tired. The voice squawked on "It is too late! You cannot remove them.". The ball of fluff seemed to attempt some sort of evil laugh, but it sounded more like a strange baby bird than anything else. "I will get strong again and create a form even MORE powerful! Just you wait!”. The lions looked at each other, some trying not to smirk, others grinning, a few with a concerned look as they judged the immaturity of their own pride mates.

The pride evaluated the list of problems present. The most immediate seemed to be dealing with the then hissing furball, which had been much a larger, much stronger lion like creature just a second ago. Containing it in this form wasn’t particularly difficult, the lions simply cornering the creature and trapping it with a simple net. They were weary that there was a decent possibility it might escape, or grow big and strong yet again. The lions called for a more secure cage to be sent to the cave, deciding they would move the creature out of the cave once it was safely inside it. A handful of soldiers were ordered to guard it whilst the others dealt with the issue of the roots.

Having temporarily dealt with Uuk'oks, the lions turned their attention towards the roots. Ozmore and the others stood around, looking at the roots imbedded deep in the ground.

Ozmore pulled at one of the thinner roots. “Do you think we could cut these?” He asked the others. He placed his knife behind it and started to saw at the root, moving the knife back and forth in an effort to cut through it. The root was surprisingly difficult to cut, taking him a considerable amount of time to even make a dent in it

. Mirra looked at his efforts and decided it was time to have a go herself. “Lemme try” She said as she pushed Ozmore to the side. She put her best effort into breaking the root, struggling as it refused to break. Giving up, she stepped back and looked at the root disappointed. She had done a little more damage, but nothing particularly noteworthy. “Thats... surprisingly tough.” She commented.

Iluc stepped forward, running his paw along the roots. “We could try digging them up.” Iluc suggested, his eyes glancing towards the middle where the thickest roots were. He doubted that they would be able to just cut through those ones, especially considering they were struggling to cut through that thin root.

“Maybe they have a weakness.” Suggested a voice from the tunnels. The pride turned as they watched Captain Uhalmor walk through into the cavern. With all the recent commotion she had decided to investigate herself. She had overheard a portion of the lions conversation as she was walking through the tunnel- they were being rather noisy.

“Aren’t you supposed to be running the Empire whilst i’m away?” Ozmore reminded her, although he sounded somewhat sarcastic. He otherwise didn’t seem to make a fuss about it, having simply made his remark without even looking at her. He was too focused on trying to cut through the root with his small pocket knife still.

“I left Ezyra in charge.” Uhalmor replied, moving towards the root Ozmore seemed fixated on. “You seem to need the help anyway”.

“What do you suggest then?” Ozmore asked, still trying to cut the root.

Mirra placed her paw over his, forcing him to drop the knife. “Cutting it clearly isn’t working, for a start.” Ozmore pulled a pouting face in protest but Uhalmor just ignored him. She was more or less immune to his tricks. “There must be something that damages the roots” She pointed out. Ozmore wasn’t buying the idea, instead trying to release his paw from her grip. “Like how slugs don’t like salt.” Uhalmor tried to explain.

“You suggesting we put salt on the roots?” Mirra asked, not really getting the right end of the stick.

“No. Well, you could try, but it probably won’t work”. Uhalmor seemed irritated at her pridemates apparent stupidity. “I’m suggesting we experiment to find out what damages this stuff.”

A collective “oh” could be heard from Mirra and most of her soldiers.

“I still think we should try to dig these up.” Natu said, although he was mostly drowned out by the sound of Uhalmor and Ozmore ordering around the rest of the lions to go and collect materials they thought might work.

“Try digging anyway” Mirra suggested. “Here, i’ll help” She offered as she scratched at the ground.

Mirra and Iluc agreed they would dig. Uhalmor ignored them, simply letting the two do their own thing for a while. At the very least the two wouldn’t get in her way whilst they were distracted. At best they could try attacking the roots deeper down in hopes that it might be a weak spot. She directed her attention towards the prides first experiment. Natu had collected some berries which were poisonous to the lions, in hopes that it might have an effect on the roots. He mashed the berries together into a paste and tried applying it onto one of the smaller roots. There was no reaction. Disappointed, Natu left the cavern in an attempt to find something else to try.

Meanwhile the stronger cage arrived. The fuzzy blob, still angrily waving its tendrils around, was placed inside, still in the net. The lions couldn’t decide where to place it so it was left in the corner for the time being.
