||SFA Challenge Thread - Challenge Rules ||

Postby ~HєуRєι~ » Wed Jan 29, 2020 8:55 pm

The various rules for challenges, including individual rules and other such important notes.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

CHALLENGE RULES-
♥ All Challenges will remain CS friendly, as should the completed requirements.
♥ Challenges are not to be suggested here! Users may suggest challenges to the SFA Owner in PMs/DMs or on the SFA Discord server.
♥ Challenge prizes will not be changed in any way. The way they are made and revealed will remain how they are.
♥ Only official SFA pets can participate in these challenges. This does not include affiliate pets unless they are transferred to SFA.
♡ SFA cats and dogs are the only species that may participate in all challenges. Only exception to this is the development check.
♡ Affiliate pets may be part of the challenge writing (as interactions or to help answer a prompt) and part of challenge art (drawn in the background or interacting with the main pet) but the SFA pet being used for the challenge must be the focus.
♥ Challenge checks must be posted in the SFA Archive thread to be approved.
♥ Only certain challenges can be repeated. It will be stated which ones can and cannot.
♡ Opportunity to complete all challenges for a pet resets when given to new owners but will not be available if returned to the original owner. However the new owner cannot re-use the old owner's writing/art and must write/draw something new.
♥ All challenges must take place from the perspective of the SFA pet being used for the challenge unless stated otherwise.
♡ All art must have the SFA pet being used for the challenge at least 50% shown and must be at least partial background unless otherwise stated.
♡ SFA pet/s must be recognizable in art. Meaning they must be colored and drawn in a way that makes them recognizable.
♡ Collars do not have to be included in art.
♡ 'Partial Backgrounds' are backgrounds/backdrops showing ground, and some background objects but otherwise transparent. For reference this is a transparent, and this is a full background.
DEVELOPMENT CHECK-
♥ These development checks can only be done once per pet, but can be sent and redeemed at any time.
♥ Each time you complete this, you are allowed to put the special stamp on the pet you completed it for- but only after it has been approved.
♥ You must do the minimum listed for each category for the category to be counted for your pet. If it is not the minimum required, you will not receive the minimum token for that category. Ex- if you did not make your personality at least 100 words, you will not receive any tokens towards your personality category. You will not be able to amend this- so be careful.
♡ Relationship category can only be done with SFA pets and affiliate adopt pets! It is encouraged that it is the SFA pets/affiliate adopt pets of others in the community.
♡ Each pet relationship must have a link to the pet being referred to.
♥ Only tokens will be able to be won on this check. No items are included.
♥ If the minimum is done for each category- the minimum amount of tokens that can be received is 3. The maximum amount of tokens that can be awarded is 10.
DISABILITY AND INJURY CHECK-
♥ This challenge can be done multiple times per pet.
♥ At least 3/4ths of the SFA pet must be shown in art!
♥ Limit for scars for injuries are medium at most- and cannot cover the whole body. Multiple small scars can be applied instead of a singular medium scar. Scars do not count amputations, docking of tail or ears, or limps. An ear being more floppy than the other ear can be done as a scar instead. These will always be visual and should be added by the artist as soon as possible.
♡ A scar may only be done on the pet you submitted the check for.
♥ Disabilities are limited to blindness (partial and full), deafness, or limps in legs. These will be listed officially on the pet's original page, but may not be visually seen unless the artist decides otherwise.
♡ Disabilities cannot be reversed, so be careful!
♡ Disabilities gotten this way cannot be bred into offspring.
SHOWING CHALLENGE-
♥ This challenge can only be done once per pet.
♡ Only 'Pets' may participate in this challenge.
♡ SFA pets may only choose one category to do the challenge for.
♡ SFA pets participating in this challenge must have a show name with their kennel's/cattery's acronym.
♥ It is encouraged that research is done on the categories before choosing, so you may understand what you are writing/drawing about.
♡ If you are unsure as to what a category is like or if your pet qualifies for it, pm/dm the SFA Owner or ask in the Staff Questions in the Discord Server to clear it up.
♥ Each level must be submitted separately.
♡ All levels must be for the same category.
♡ Multiple levels can be submitted on the same post- but the levels themselves have to have separate forms.
♡ Prizes may only be awarded after completing the level in full.
♥ Limits for this challenge or the category qualifications may change.
SURVIVAL CHALLENGE-
♥ This challenge can only be done once per pet.
♡ Only 'Strays' may participate in this challenge.
♡ SFA pets may only choose one category to do the challenge for.
♥ If you are unsure as to what a category is like or if your pet qualifies for it, pm/dm the SFA Owner or ask in the Staff Questions in the Discord Server to clear it up.

DEVELOPMENT CHECK- |xx|
DEVELOPMENT CHECK wrote:Show your love for your character and be rewarded for your hard work by submitting a development check to the archive! The development check has three categories- Personality, History, and Listed Relationships! Each has their own requirements but always has a reachable minimum for at least 1 token as a reward. You can submit one for any pet but can only submit a check once before your pet is no longer able to complete it! Once your pet has completed the requirement, you will be awarded the tokens your check fits in the categories and a stamp for you to put on your pet's page or information as a sign they've completed the check!

DISABILITY AND INJURY CHECK- |xx|
DISABILITY AND INJURY CHECK wrote:Oh no! It seems your pet has gotten injured or developed some kind of disability! Show how their life has changed or how they got said obstacle in life, so we're assured they can continue living life to its fullest.

SHOWING CHALLENGE- |xx|
SHOWING CHALLENGE wrote:Show the progress your pet has made through their training in a specific showing category! There are several categories they can specialize in, but they all have specific requirements and descriptions for each one. Pets can only participate in one category, but can use the others in storytelling outside the challenge specifically.

SURVIVAL CHALLENGE- |xx|
SURVIVAL CHALLENGE wrote:Show how your pet has adapted their specialty in survival outside domestic homes! There are several categories they can specialize in, but they all have specific descriptions. Pets can only participate in one category, but can use the others in storytelling outside the challenge specifically.

more realistic sense in your art/writing.
-A pet can only complete this challenge once. If it is traded, the

    the challenge cannot be re-done.
-Every user starts at level 0, and can work on this challenge first
    towards level 1.
-Each level completion must be posted separately.
-You can only choose 1 section for the pet to specialize in.
-Only SFA animals listed as 'Pet' can participate. Additionally,
they must be a cat or dog.
-Only certain species can participate in certain categories.
-Each section and requirement has a set minimum word count.
-Mentioned SFA pets do not have to be doing the challenge in the

should match the species requirement (Dog size or if only cats/

SECTIONS-
Agility - A [D+C]
AGILITY wrote:The pet completes a series of obstacles in a course under a timer, with
the time amount and amount of mistakes creating the score they
receive. The pet goes through tunnels, over hurdles, through weaves, on
balance beams, on ramps, and on moving platforms in a numbered
succession to complete the course correctly. Their handler is running
with them to make sure they go the right directions.

Barn Hunt - BH [SD/MD+C]
BARN HUNT wrote:The pet goes around a recreation of a barn-like area with straw and
small spaces, where caged rats are hidden. They work with their
handlers around a maze of hay-bales and straw to find the rats within
the course, which is made increasingly difficult with more obstacles,
diversions, and rats to find as the pet goes up levels.

Carting - C [MD/LD]
CARTING wrote:The dog works to pull a cart with it's handler around specific obstacles
with weights to give the illusion of farm produce. Can be up to 2 dogs
pulling one cart. The dog is required to wear certain equipment, such
as certain kinds of harnesses and collars.

Dock Diving - DD [D+C]
DOCK DIVING wrote:The pet sprints off a platform into a pool of water to retrieve the
marker. Theres 3 kinds of competitions within it- Distance, Height,
and Retrieve. Distance marks how far the pet jumped, the feet being
counted on the side. Height marks the highest the dog can jump, the
marker being held in the hair for the pet to launch and grab before
landing. Retrieve is how fast the pet can retrieve the marker and then
swim back with it returning in their mouth.

Earthdog Trials - E [SD]
EARTDOG TRIALS wrote:A small dog is to go through an underground obstacle course to show
their skills. Rats are placed safely in a cage at the end of a wooden
tunnel mini-maze. The maze presents small obstacles for the dog to get
through such as dirt blockades and small water boxes for them to step
through. This is done in complete darkness.

Field Trials - FT [MD/LD]
FIELD TRIALS wrote:The dog is brought to a designated field where they retrieve a bird
that was shot and then left in the field. Once the bird has fallen,
the handler directs the dog to that direction they should run to
dutifully retrieve the bird and bring it back. The dog is also expected
to be obedient, patient, and quiet. They are judged in packs or pairs
of two.

Flyball - Fl [D]
FLYBALL wrote:Dogs are to run in succession teams over 4 or more hurdles,
successfully retrieve the ball at the end, and turn back, going through
the hurdles again. They switch off to the next dog with a total of 4 dogs
going in the team. Often 2 teams compete in one competition and until
one team has 2 points. The team that finishes first with no ball drops,
missed hurdles, or missed runs, wins.

Frisbee - Fr [D]
FRISBEE wrote:Dogs do tricks with their handlers paired with catching of frisbees,
with the added challenge of two and a half minutes to complete the
routine. There is often a music of choice, with the dog using the
handler's body as a prop to catch the disks. The points are based on skill,
creativity, and style. Following the performance, the pair can gain two
bonus points if the dog can catch a long throw in a designated square
twice.

Good Citizen - GC [D+C]
GOOD CITIZEN wrote:The pet is trained in the best manners fitting the handler and their
household, mastering 10 basic skills, primarily polite mannerisms that
make interactions easier. Socialization with different noises, obedient
walking with different surfaces, obedience when going through a door,
examination and grooming, recall using names and toys, and obedience
when using the "stay" commend. There are different levels that bring
different situations. Primarily used as a training program more than a
competition.

Herding - H [MD/LD]
HERDING wrote:The dog demonstrates their ability to move and control livestock by
fetching or driving to move the livestock further on a course. They are
conducted in a fenced area and generally is more of a test than a
competition. There are three levels- started, intermediate, and
advanced. Theres 3 courses each level and it works around versatility,
control and movement in a large area or a flock in an unfenced area.

Hunting Trials - HT [MD/LD]
HUNTING TRIALS wrote:Different from the field trials, the dog must retrieve the bird shot in
various conditions. The dog is not competing with other dogs, but
there are 3 titles that can be earned- Junior, Senior, and Master. They
are judged based on their natural ability to mark and remember a fall,
their hunting style, and perseverance or courage. Additional points are
added based on learned abilities such as steadiness, control, response
and delivery.

Musical Freestyle - M [D+C]
MUSICAL FREESTYLE wrote:The pet and handler create a routine of tricks, movement and music
custom to their style and pace that is then performed in front of
judges and an audience. Judged for creativity, style, and
obedience of the pet. Most competitors use tricks from Obedience
training and other moves simply set to a musical beat to capture the
audience- some even use props and costumes or tell stories through
the music and movements!

Obedience - O [D+C]
OBEDIENCE wrote:The pet will be judged on various trained behaviors, such as walking on
and off-leash, retrieving, jumping, and ability to stay. Pets that are
well-behaved at home, in public spaces, and in the presence of other
pets are the ones that are shown, and the pet must demonstrate
willingness and enjoyment when working with the handler.
Pulling - P [D]
PULLING wrote:The dog is set with a harness and sled-like contraption to pull various
weights to test their stamina and strength. The dog walks down a
specific runway pulling the weights as far as they can with, first
lifted and assisted by other handlers to get the dog started until
the dog is pulling the weights without issue. The goal is to get the
weight to the end of the walk without any issues in between. The
dogs are conditioned to do this prior to competing.

Racing - R [D]
RACING wrote:Dogs are set with numbers and racing muzzles, usually held until
ready in a position or given a racing dock before being released. Dogs
are given a few minutes to see the thing they're chasing after. Usually
this object is something resembling a rabbit or simply a fluffy "tail" on a
line that is pulled quickly by a machine into the end hole or the end of
the track. Most commonly Jack Russels and Greyhounds are raced,
though on different tracks and circumstances.

Rally-O - RO [D+C]
RALLY-O wrote:The pet must complete a series of tricks in designated spots under a
designated time with their handler, a set of about 10-20 different signs.
The pet must be control at the handler's left side and complete each sign
correctly under a small time, but control of skill is the focus rather than
a fast time.

Scent Hurdles - Hu [D]
SCENT HURDLES wrote:Dogs are sent in 2 teams of 4 against eachother through a hurdle
course, at the end of which is a square platform with 4 dumbells, each
numbered and scented with their owner's scents. The dog is to grab the
correct dumbell and run back as quickly as they can to the end, trading
off with the next dog as another dumbell is placed, though it is a
"dummy" and instead has an X. The dog must get through the hurdles
without dropping their dumbell, assuming they grabbed the correct one.
The first team to reach 2 points after all dogs have gone wins.

Schutzhund - Sc [D]
SCHUTZHUND wrote:The dog is the focus of learning basic moves to protect the owner,
further developing the strengths and making weaknesses weaker to better
protect the home. They focus on obedience, tracking, and protection
similar to police dog training. It tests the mental stability, endurance,
structural efficiencies, ability to scent, willingness to work, courage, and
overall trainability in the dog, though the breed most commonly used is
the German Shepherd. For first level tracking, the handler is used,
whereas the further levels the tracks are lead by a stranger. The
obedience are primarily reactions to sharp noises, heeling exercises, and
field exercises, one in particular being sitting away from the handler
while distractions are around them. The protection uses search for hiding
places, finding missing person, and guarding or pursue of a decoy attacker.
The 'attacker' wears protective gear as to not be actually harmed, but the
protection is to primarily test the temperament and strength. The dogs go
individually.

Show - Sh [D+C]
SHOW wrote:A judge/set of judges looks at the best of the best breeds, their
standard traits and watches them move around beside their handler in a
ring. Each set of dogs comes in their designated breed group, with one of
each breed appearing in the indoor ring, being evaluated one by one. By
the end of the full group evaluation, the judged choose 5 top winners,
then best in show, best of group, and best of sex (male or female).
Purebred Only.

Sledding - S [D]
SLEDDING wrote:The dogs are controlled by a handler in teams from 4-10+ dogs
depending on the difficulty. There are 3 kinds of races; sprint races,
which are timed or 2-3 day events with the same dogs on the same course
and have distances of 4-100 miles, mid-distance races, which are
continuous events of 100-300 miles, and long-distance races, which are
either continuous or stage-races with 300-1000+ miles over several days
with different courses. Races start either timed starts, where sets of 2
teams go in the same intervals but have space between eachother, or
mass starts, where each team is lined next to eachother and all go at the
same time. Theres various different kinds of sled racing, however the
most common is with snow and a handler with the dog team. The first
team to complete the course and return back over the finish line is the
winner. Amount of dogs is usually consistent in competitions though some
may have unlimited/open, allowing large teams to compete with smaller
teams.

Therapy - Th [D+C]
THERAPY wrote:The pet is trained to be obedient and comfortable with all situations
that may arise when visiting certain spaces. They are not a service
animal, instead visiting locations and facilities on a schedule basis where
people may need comfort from a furry friend.

Tracking - T [D]
TRACKING wrote:The dog and handler are to follow a scent within the outdoors on a trail,
expecting the dog to naturally recognize and follow the scent for 440-500
yards and 3-5 changes of direction. The track is laid and left from 30
minutes to 2 hours before the dog begins scenting, and when scenting the
dog is encouraged on a long leash to follow with the handler close behind.
The higher level courses require more, such as items from the person that
are dropped to be found, and the track may be older and-or longer, or
change more often.

Vertical Wall Climb - V [D+C]
VERTICAL WALL CLIMB wrote:Pets use their muscles/strength to jump as high as they can, using their
legs to lift them further up a wall to grab bait. They are given safety
precaution gear for if they fall, with handlers allowed to be in the area to
make sure of safety of the pet. The wall is always at least 3 feet wide and
16 feet high, with rubber, foam tile, or carpet covering the entire side
that is to be climbed. The bait is a pillow, eight to twelve inches and
attached at a high point for the pet to aim towards. The pillow is
commonly placed at 13 feet for medium-large pets. If the pet cannot grab
the pillow with their mouth within 3 tries, they are eliminated.
