You need a miner, forager, or hunter. You will also need any type of weopon. Unless you have a bag, you can carry 2 items for every hyena you explore with. Hyenas can get hurt while exploring. You can offer to the gods to heal them, or use a shaman. Hyenas that are hurt will not perform as well.
