Fallow was forced out of his past pride when he refused to fight on behalf of their king. He wandered for weeks, taking shelter anywhere he could, until he came across what he believed to be the perfect foundation for a pride. Climbing atop a steep, towering rock, he looked out at the rolling savanna fields and outcrops scattered among the trees. Below him was a sheer rockface, leaning over a sandy patch of earth with shallow, wind-carved rock shelters that would make perfect dens. Behind him lied a plain of rocky soil and smoothed rocky peaks, the occasional dead tree or patch of grass wilting, unsheltered from the sun. Though other lions may have seen the rocky terrain as dangerous and barren, he understood the opportunity in the deep hare burrows and resting vultures that would make for easy prey. And among the hills, there were herds roaming about, wandering here and there, naturally herded together by the rocky barrier.
Curling up in one of the shallow caves of his new-found home, he decided then and there that he would lead a pride- one of peace and kindness, where fighting would be a last resort and cubs could grow up without fear of violence- and make this beautiful land his own.
