Volux are small, fox-like creatures, with the tails and spines of dragons. They share many behaviours with domestic cats; although stealthy hunters, they are known to be affectionate with humans, and are often chosen as household companions. Volux are sociable with all species, although they tend to form a strong bond with only one human at a time.

Their colours are perhaps the most distinct among mammals; ranging from natural browns to bold, glowing colours. Some volux may develop unique physiological traits such as wings, horns, or different tails.

Perhaps the most interesting fact, however, is that every single volux carries a special "hidden trait". Although this trait does not appear in the volux itself, if it is bred to another volux with the same hidden trait, then some of their offspring may reveal new, even rare, characteristics! Hidden traits are displayed only as two letter combinations, which are revealed in the archive once a volux is adopted. So, until your volux breeds, you will not know what their hidden trait will cause.

Volux inheritance is nothing simple; kits can inherit any combinations of their parents markings, from having the same as just one parent, to a mixture of the two - some markings may even appear over the top of another marking.
Genetics are not always straightforward. Markings, colours, and other features, are all able to be passed on, and so can appear in any mixture of the parents. Some kits may look very reminiscent of a particular parent, while others are the perfect midground of the two; the results are up to fate.

In terms of colours, only those on the parents can appear on kits (without the presence of a colour mutation). Coat colours will remain on the body, however, in some incredibly rare cases, the colours may invert, and the fur will swap colour schemes with the coat itself!

Eye colours are perhaps the simplest factor. Unless the trait for heterochromia is present in a kit, they can only have the eye colour of one parent.

Physical mutations can appear in a volux's kits if both parents have the same hidden trait. This is displayed in the archive as a two-letter combination. Each correlates with a specific trait, which you may find below.
Hidden traits can only be passed on if both parents have the same trait, so choose your partners carefully.
In addition to this, they are rare, and only appear in a single kit per litter, unless special items are used.

Some traits only appear in main thread litters, and so can only be passed on by breeding a parent that shows the trait.

If both parents display a trait, then every kit will inherit it, whether it was a hidden trait or a litter trait. The only exception to this is if a hidden trait appears that is incompatible (for example, bushy tailed parents both carrying the trait for fin tail).
If only one parent displays the trait, then there is still a chance of it being passed on. It is not uncommon for some or all kits to inherit a parent's mutation.
If both display a trait for the same area - for example, one with long spine fur and another with none - then kits will inherit one or the other. They cannot inherit the standard appearance if neither parent has it!
A volux can have multiple mutations, so long as they can combine; this is most likely to happen when breeding two parents who not only carry the same trait, but each have another trait as well.
