Trait Ticket Desired: Blind, but only in one eye
Prompt 1:
The pain was the worst part of it, in a way. It infected where that rogue slashed him, and he felt feverish, almost made worse by the physicians fussing over him. They didn't realize he'd loose that eye's sight like he did - and by the time he was aware enough, now out of the pain and the fevered sleep,s to have it fully dawn over him, the panic was only a few minutes of hushed shock. The others expected him to react more.
But the throbbing pain was gone. That was such a relief that it somehow made him numb to the entire situation. It wasn't quite peace with it, something else he couldn't describe.
He was quieter, quieter than even he normally was for the next few days. He was thoughtful - he thought over how he could have died - they didn't tell him that, but he knew the infection had been serious and he'd had other wounds besides from that battle - and he thought about how blessed he was. He was alive. And, in his haze of fever, he'd sometimes awaken for brief times to see his family by him. Emberbright hardly ever left his side. And as soon as Quietshine recovered enough, they would sit together for hours at a time, either talking in a quiet and peaceful way, or simply sitting in a companionable silence. Emberbright didn't seem to want to address the issue. He wasn't sure what Quietshine was feeling. But he wanted to be there for him. In that battle, there was so much more, and so much worse things, he could have lost - his family, his life - he still had these.
Quietshine took a glimpse of himself in a pool once the cobwebs and herbs had been removed. He could sense Emberbright's tension, and he realized his brother was even more disturbed by the whole ordeal that perhaps he was.
"Certainly have a scar to rival Bravelight's now, don't you think?" He said softly, with a slight smile. "Just think of the stories I could tell my kits - watch, I'll come up with an exaggeration even wilder than one of your tales!"
Emberbright managed a smile at this, which grew more confident as Quietshine turned to him. The tension was lifted - he could see in Quietshine's face that all would be well.
It would take some adjusting still, having the one eye gone - but Quietshine wouldn't let this get him, nor his family, down.
Prompt 2:
Loosing one eye hasn't stopped Quietshine from hunting, fighting and helping his physicians in their gathering of herbs. He felt a bit off balance at first, but he's a determined cat and was quick to work at getting used to this new perspective. Quietshine is well known for quietly going about what needs to be done, hardly ever seeking notice or praise - just doing what a loyal cat of Lighthouse would do. So nothing has changed here, if anything for the first few weeks back on the job he worked harder to assure others he is doing fine and to ease their concern.
He has his own special jobs too, however, aside from the normal duties. He's been slowly learning medicine with Crimsonsparrow and Chickenpoppy, and is becoming skilled enough that soon he should be bale to handle helping others if wither of the other physicians aren't present.
He's also the clan's conductor alongside Ashclover - a strange less practical rank for cats, and not all the same as the human counterpart. But e is in charge of leading, directing and choosing the music for their traditional singing times they set aside for this purpose. Quietshine gets his most outgoing on these occasions, encouraging those less confident with their singing to enjoy themselves despite, and playfully tossing small twigs at those cats who drown out everyone else out, or otherwise disturb the singing. This is a time of peace, and a relief from hard work for the clan - it may feed no bellies, but it certainly feeds the bond between them and their hearts, and so Quietshine almost feels this is one of the most important roles he can play.
Prompt 3:
"Help, I'm drowning!"
Quietshine was toppled over as the force of apprentice-and-kit weight tackled him to the floor.
"We've caught he evil coyote!" called out the high pitched mewl of Thunderkit. the chubby kitten landed over Quietshine's head, chewing at his fur and pulling out a tiny tuft of it. Quietshine let out a mock cry as he felt gentle paws pummeling at his back.
"I surrender! I surrender!"
"There can be no surrender!'
Thunderkit yelped as he was pulled off. Grebepaw had removed her little cousin from his head.
"Traitor!"
Grebepaw dropped him and said in a dramatic tone. "I am rebelling against your cruel leadership!"
The play continued like this for a few more minutes. Quietshine covered his head and made what he called 'dying noises', which mostly consisted of repeatedly saying. "I'm departing! I'm dying! Farewell!"
They were interrupted, however, as Emberbright and Swimming Crab sidled over, followed by Snowberry, who came to collect her kits.
"Mom nooooo!" Thunderkit squealed as he was hoisted into the air. "I was about to win the war for my empire!"
"You can win the war later." Snowberry meowed, waving her tail so that Oddkit and Halfkit scrambled towards her. "Quietshine has a patrol to go on now! And look what a mess you three are! Hope they weren't too much trouble?"
"No, don't worry about it... They're strong fighters for their age, but I can handle them." Quietshine said softly, getting to his paws and shaking out his fur. Both Emberbight and Swimming Crab flinched as the pale cat shook the dust into the air.
"We collectively knocked him over!" Halfkit said in an enthusiastic tone. "We can defeat a warrior!"
"I helped." Grebepaw suggested.
"You betrayed the empire." Thunderkit mumbled haughtily.
Oddkit seemed to have the only mind to say. "Thank you Mr. Quiet." In his usual hushed voice, which prompted a purr of amusement from Quietshine.
They left the area, Roosterpaw trailing after them and leaving Grebepaw with Quietshine, Emberbright and Swimming Crab. Quietshine smiled after them - watching them scampering between Snowberry and Roosterpaw's legs and seeing the carried and defeated 'tyrant king' hanging from his mothers jaws made him want to have his own kits, someday. Even if they were trouble.
Emberbright's voice didn't sound so cheerful as he said in a tense manner. "... Hmmmm we've been assigned hunting near the north. Grebepaw can come along if she wants... we do have to watch Cra- I mean Swimming Crab here."
"I'm not about to do anything." Swimming Crab answered angrily, shooting the cinnamon tom an angry glare.
Quietshine felt his heart sinking, now. So much for the happiness he'd felt a few minutes before - he knew about Emberbright and Swimming Crab's history and what recent revelations had caused for it. They'd known each other for several moons after Emberbright met her by chance while on a lone mission - Quietshine was one of the only cats Emberbright confided in about his meetings with her. Not that he'd had reason to keep it secret - just that, for some reason, he'd wanted to. Quietshine had no clue what had been going on in his brother's head other than he clearly had feelings for this cat, and now it was revealed she was kin to the very cats that'd killed some of their own cats, and waged war against them.
Quietshine knew she hadn't actually participated in the fighting. He didn't hold anything against her, and he hoped that, now that Swimming Crab had joined Lighthouse the two would make it all up again.
He'd see to it, at least.
"Come on, you three." He said, giving them a sheepish smile as he began to lead them out. "I'm sure we can trust Swimming Crab not to cause trouble, can't we?"
