what was your favorite memory in 2018?:
okay here in NZ we don't have comic-con but we do have something called Armageddon, which is basically the same thing. people dress up and play video games, enter contests, buy merch & fanart, etc. I live about roughly six hours drive from the nearest venue, but my friend lives in that city, so I go and stay with her.
now I'm pretty shy, and I don't like public transport (or being in a vehicle really, afraid of driving and stuff) but each year I brave the six hour journey on a bus by myself. oddly enough I end up liking it, I think because I have my music to listen to. and then once I'm there my friend meets me with her siblings (who visit too), and we train to her house.
she's my absolute soulfriend and I love her and her little house and her cat and it was also really exciting because her sibling is going to have a baby so we went shopping for gifts and stuff. and it's super chill being with her and eating takeout and we all sleep in the lounge on blowup beds and watch Netflix (we fell asleep watching Shrek yeet)
but ugh Armageddon is so good, I mean there's a ton of people which is daunting but it's still such a friendly convention. the staff are funny and the stalls are great and I love that they're very firm on 'cosplay is not consent' and make sure everyone is safe. I got some gorgeous art (I love supporting homegrown artists) and a really big dinosaur plush!! still needs a name tho
absolutely seeing my friend and hanging out with her and her sibs is always my favorite time, I only get to see her once a year and it's always wonderful and I'm just blessed to have her tbh :')

what was your favorite memory in 2018?: I went on a trip with my mom and brother to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in the fall. It was seriously one of the best moments of my life.
On the first day, we had breakfast at a pancake house, and I had the best waffles ever, with melty chocolate chips on them. <3 Then we went and rode horses!!!
It was my first time ever riding a horse actually, and when I was about to get on, I started to have second doubts about wanting to ride. (It was my idea.) And when I got on, I could feel my stomach doing somersaults, and I almost started to cry. Luckily the guide noticed I was scared, and he was kind and talked to me, and I calmed down. We rode a mountain trail through the woods, and we saw some baby black bears at one point. The highest we were up was 3,000 feet. What made me really nervous though was that the horses liked to walk by the edge, and I didn't want fall off, and I kept having to steer my horse to the center of the path. They like the edges because it's comforting to them, but it was not to me.
My biggest fear of all time is to be paralyzed (especially from the neck down), and falling off a horse down several dozen feet, into a creek full of rocks and stones, would have probably guaranteed that for me.
When we finished, I almost started to cry because I didn't want it to end. BUT!!! The next day, I was surprised with a second horseback ride! My mom and I had this tour all to ourselves (my brother didn't like horseback riding, and no one else showed up).
This ride I personally enjoyed more. This was a different place than where we went to before, and this path was more flat, with only a couple of small hills. We galloped a lot though, and I didn't know about kind of standing when your horse gallops, but luckily the guide let us know, and I liked galloping after that. This guide was super kind, and she told us about the history of that particular part of the mountains, and a little about the horses at that stable. I almost cried when getting off of this horse too, I love horseback riding, and I hope I will be able to ride again someday.
We toured the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum too. There was a rope bridge, and I was too scared to walk on it, but my brother did twice. There were color shadows, and I always thought shadows were black. My brother and I posed by the wall where the shadows were being displayed, because if you pressed a button, you could see a still image of your shadow. We also went to a Crime Museum, and everything was extremely fascinating, except for the pirate stuff. They had an electric chair, and the real white Ford Bronco that O.J Simpson used.
There were a lot of shops too. A lot of the shops were pretty much the same, or at least just had the same stuff in it, so we didn't actually buy a whole lot. I did buy a couple of cool magnets though. We did stop at the Ben & Jerry's ice cream place and we got some g o o d ice cream!! <3 I got a mint chocolate chip and a brownie (?some kind of chocolate) combo.
We drove through some of the mountains and took a bunch of pretty scenery photos, and the view was incredible!! I was able to see miles away from where I was standing. We also saw a lot of bears too, like on the road. And as much as I really liked the bears, I didn't like seeing on them on the road because they could get hit. (Which does happen down there sadly.)
One evening though, we were in our hotel room, and I was recording the room with my 3ds camera to remember the room forever (even though I will never watch that video and I remember the room vividly anyways), and the room had a little balcony, that overlooked a small parking lot.
Well at one point I went out on it to record, and I was describing what was on the balcony (like "and THIS is the table, and the chair, and the other chair"), and my my brother nonchalantly says "and a bear." And I freak out, "Wait what, where?!?!" He replies, "Over there." And I spot it, "Oh my word there is a bear!!!", which then my mom overhears, and she freaks out too. And my mom tries to take some pictures of the bear, but it was too dark. The bear was eating a bunch of acorns (which I didn't know black bears ate). I could hear him chew and he crawled on his stomach to move to another pile of acorns. We all probably watched him for like an hour.
There is SO much more to mention about this trip, but I decided to just share some of the most memorable parts.
Another honorable mention is going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for my birthday!!!!! I went a few years ago, and I am so happy I got to go again, and see some of my favorite things I liked last time.
And then a second honorable mention is that my mom, brother, and I all went to Cincinnati to go to an AnimeCon for my brother. I don't really care for anime, but I love road trips so I went anyways.
