Spider Villagers do NOT count towards villager thresholds for customs or town expansions, nor do they count towards villager limits.
Basically, just keep them away from Hybrid.

You come across a strange cavern in the outskirts of Asterisk, and, out if curiosity, you walk in. Suddenly, many glowing eyes from all directions begin to stare at you!

A single light turns on, revealing the eyes to be from many spiders. One of them walks up to you.

Oh, thank goodness someone's here. For far too long, humans have been capturing our species and subjecting them to living in cages for their whole lives! However, we ARE people too, just like your birds, sheep, crocodiles, dragons, dogs, cats, all of them! We've been treated unfairly for SO LONG, and we're finally done. Today, we WILL FIGHT BACK!
We are rather hungry. Perhaps you can convince us to live in your town if you bring us delicious bugs.

This spider seems stuck in summer. She seems to love tropical weather, and is acting like she's freezing cold even though it's still pretty warm out. Her web has a sticker too, labeled S-4.

Ah, hello there, human. Come closer. What do you mean I look poisonous? Ah, anyway, you've come to find out where the best bugs are, hmm? I've got a guide for ya right here. Heh, and maybe I'll even let you borrow some of my stuff for a bit.

For this event, you may convince Spider villagers to live in your village by offering them bugs!
You can search in three locations:
Hazy Hollow
A forest full of fruit and oak trees.
Possible finds:
Ant - Size Rating 1-2
Common Butterfly - Size Rating 2-3
Emperor Butterfly - Size Rating 3-4
Brown Cicada - Size Rating 4-5
Bee - Size Rating 5

Moonlight Isle
A small island, with the ocean all around. The tropical temperatures attract many bugs.
Possible finds:
Fruit Beetle - Size Rating 1-2
Agrias Butterfly - Size Rating 2-3
Horned Dynastid - Size Rating 3-4
Giant Stag - Size Rating 4-5
Scorpion - Size Rating 5

Flower Field
As the name says, this is a field covered in flowers.
Honeybee - Size Rating 1-2
Tiger Butterfly - Size Rating 2-3
Peacock Butterfly - Size Rating 3-4
Mantis - Size 4-5
Orchid Mantis - Size Rating 5

Pickier spiders like larger bugs!

Lloyd also has some boosts you can use.

Sticky Silk
A bottle of silk. Sounds cool until you remember it comes directly out of a spider's butt.
Increases the chances of a successful catch.
May be used 2 times per week.

Slick Silk
Also comes out of a spider's butt. The difference is that this silk isn't sticky, and you can be faster on it.
You can search one more time in a week.
May be used once over 2 weeks.

Medicine
Did you trip over something? Were you stung by something? This stuff will work immediately, fixing up whatever happened to ail you.
Will allow you to immediately recover and search again.
May be used once per week.
You may search up to 5 times a week without any boosts.
