White Grey - end state for older horses
Dapples can appear on any shade of grey.
Fleabitten grey is composed of small specks all along the body.
Watermarks are lighter patches that appear during greying.
Grey always shows first on the face! All grey horses will have grey skin around the eyes and muzzle.
Tobiano - ToTo // Toto
Always crosses the back at some point, usually the withers, and covers at least one leg.
Tobiano always has smooth edges.
Moroccan only shows base coat on head and upper neck.
Extreme shows base coat on chest, head and partial flank.
Minimal usually shows only along the neck and legs.
Medicine Hat only shows base on the ears, but can extend down toward the muzzle.
Splash- SplSpl // Splspl
Always starts from legs upward.
Minimal only covered all four legs, maximum can show only little coat along spine.
Face markings always extensive.
Pattern is smooth edged.
Sabino- SbSb // Sbsb
Spreads upward from legs along belly and sides.
Extreme Sabinos can be completely white. Minimal can cover only legs and have a star on face.
Jagged, lacy patches. Heavily flecked with base coat.
Gulustra plume occurs only in Sabino horses; tail is lighter than base would show.
Overo- Oo
Also known as Frame Overo
Patches of irregular, jagged edged patterns along body and neck. Rarely cross over back.
Mane and Tail always solid color never white.
Always shows large face markings.
Can never be bred with another Overo, foal will result in Lethal White Syndrome.
Tovero ToTo || Oo // Toto || Oo
Created by breeding parents with Tobiano and Overo.
Tobiano spotting that are often jagged as seen in Overo. Any type of patches can be seen as on a Tobiano.
White face and ears most often occur for facial markings.

Spotted Blanket- Lplp
Smooth edged, can be roaned. Blanket can have any number of spots.
Minimal shows as small patch on rump, edges can be lacey or patchy.
Extended moved along spine to base of the neck.
Leopard- Lplp || PATN1PATN1 // Lplp || PATN1patn1
Full leopard coat is all white with spots ranging all along the body, much like a Dalmatian.
Spots can be concentrated along head and legs.
Semi-Leopard does not cover legs, neck and head; base coat is always present along those areas.
Snowflake- Lplp
Flecks of white along body.
Usually increase in size and number as horse ages.
Frost- Lplp
White is scattered along the spine. Horse looks as though it was sprinkled with frost.
Marking can be seen extending elbows and hips occasionally.
Varnish Roan- LpLp // Lplp
Head and legs dark, spotting across a false Roan body. Varnish does not carry the roan gene.
Bony parts of body show little to no effect of varnish. (Face, legs, point of hips and shoulders.)
Snowcap // Solid Blanket - LpLp
Same range as Spotted Blanket, but remains completely solid.
Fewspot- LpLp || PATN1PATN1 // LpLp || PATN1patn1
Completely white coat, has occasional spots along body.
Spots tend to be smaller, can be as few as one or two.
Spots usually seen around head, neck, flank and elbows.
Pintaloosa- any combination is paint and Appaloosa.
Example: Tobiano + Spotted Blanket
Will express both markings.

Rabicano- white hairs moving from flank upward, light sprinkling that may form from flank across the ribcage. Skunk Tail known to occur with Rabicano; base of tail has white dispersed among color.

Sooty- dark color, usually black, dispersed in the coat from the spine downward. Dappling can be seen with sooty. It can be limited to the mane, but this is an unusual occurrence.
StySty // Stysty
Pangaré- lightens the soft spots on a horse; intensity can vary among horses.

Brindle/Reverse Brindle- Avery rare occurrence. Creates random, usually vertical, striping along the body; most commonly concentrated along neck, shoulders and hindquarters. Brindle is seen as dark striping on light base coats, Reverse Brindle is light striping on dark base coats.

Bird Catcher Spots- small white spots, usually the size of a quarter or smaller, scattered throughout the coat. Have been known to increase or disappear randomly

Chubari Spots- Egg shaped and sized white spots that occasionally appear on a greying horse.

Grease Spots- random, dark colored spots usually seen on Palomino or chestnut horses. Can appear on any coat color, however. Usually dime to palm sized.

Manchado- Large splotches of base coat over a white body. Extremely rare, cannot be passed onto offspring, thought to be due to environmental factors.

Lacing- lighter, or white, hairs in a giraffe-like pattern across the spine of a horse. Usually seen along iOS back and withers, but can extend further.

Chimeric- Rare occurrence where a horse has two different coat colors. Both can exhibit any number of patterns or coat colors. Usually only one dominant coat will pass onto foals.
